Fidelity

Seeing posts asking questions about pensions/retirement. I always go to them every couple of years to get an update on where I am. They can’t predict future changes in policy or your financial behavior but always felt like I was at least taking my yearly physical. With so many companies downsizing you probably shouldn’t wait until something happens in this current economy to get a decent reality check.

Don’t be a cockroach

Train people in India/Engine.” Translation…”here’s your rope, now, go make your noose and when training is complete we’ll meet you at the gallows to hang you.”

This company and its current CEO has NO MORALS. If you’re fooled by the old days when Chevron was a reputable and excellent company to work for listen up! Us old guys can alert you young guys to the dangers that lie ahead. They will cut you off before your official retirement.

Use Chevron to job hop. If you don’t know what that is, learn on TikTok. Use them just long enough (2 or 3 years) to make starter money and get experience, then use that to land your next best job with higher pay….and do that 2 or three times to get your salary up so you can make really good money during your most productive years. Do this while you’re still young enough to get enough years in at a good company that has a history of allowing people to retire and collect a full pension. Chevron now has a pattern of eliminating the old guys once they’ve properly trained their replacements. I know, I was eliminated in their last round of layoffs and now in this latest round I’m watching really good people get eliminated, while they’re too old in a really bad job market in the US, to get rehired. They did it to me and I never got rehired. Retirement doesn’t look for me anything like I had envisioned. DO NOT believe for ONE SECOND that that pension will be paid out to you for a “full retirement.” It’s a carrot dangling on a stick to keep you hopping. Do not give them your best income-producing years believing in that pension!!!!! It’s as disgusting as a man who divorces his wife after their last child turns 18 so he can avoid paying child-support and only have to pay alimony. This is NO DIFFERENT. Don’t be their bi--h.

If you quit by 35 or 40 you can still get part of your pension and you’re young enough to use your Fortune 500 experience to launch into a company that has a better history of allowing it’s pensioners to retire with dignity. Chevron now has a trend of “restructuring/reorganization” every five years to hire cheaper workers and cut off pensions. If you’re over 50 at Chevron you are “in scope” for elimination. One way or another you will be ELIMINATED just like a cockroach.

Slow service rollout for re:Invent?

Why is Matt Garmin complaining ??? Slow rollouts were self-inflicted !!

With 27000 layoffs, ridiculous RTO commutes, massive attrition, obviously rollouts will be slower. Vibe coding/Kiro just adds to the problem - having to fix all of the broken that MCP Servers introduces. Why not just hire talented remote devs, comp them well like NVIDIA? Problem solved!

And his release of Q was also a disaster at re:Invent. What's the point of rushing releases ??

What the he-l just happened

Anyone else reflecting on this week wondering what the he-l just happened? A typical week became a week of doom and gloom. It became hard to focus, the rumor mill roaring along with a sorry excuse of response by our CEO. In all my years at HCSC, I’ve never felt more betrayed by the company. No clear vision.. no clear communication… where’s the email that says what happens next? Are we really just going to feel like we’re in limbo until someone explains what the plan forward is? This is exhausting… I’m starting to think a layoff wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world

Tuttle Crossing?

Customers keep asking me “when is this mall closing?” And “when will the sales start?” My coworker said that my store (Turtle Crossing in Columbus) is a top performing store but I get asked 10+ times if my store is closing. I have 5 children and 2 grand babies and 3 cats and a dog and a pig. I need my paycheck. I used to work at Sears, and then Jo-Ann Fabrics and Toys R Ys. I feel like a curse but I need my monies. Please tell me turtle crossing isn’t closing!

There is life after Starbucks. Aa layoff motivates people to look elsewhere and gives you an opportunity to get out of rainy depressing Seattle

Here's a serious thought if you end up getting a layoff notice from Starbucks. You can tailor your Starbucks resume to make yourself attractive to become a Coal miner. Every Coal Mine in West Virginia is hiring right now. The Coal mines are looking for people for entry-level, mid-level and experienced coal miners. There is lots of overtime offered if you want that too.
A coal mining job is a real job that requires hard work for good pay. It will be a huge shock to most Starbuckers, because accepting your Starbucks job you expected you could just skate by.
If you move to West Virginia to become a coal miner. In six months, you would have plenty of money saved to go out and buy yourself a brand-new Ford 150 or Chevy Silverado truck. You can then put your truck to good use with weekend outings to go hiking, camping fishing, hunting or skiing too.

I strongly recommend all you Starbuckers bag Seattle and move to West Virginia to become a coal miner, even if you don't get laid-off at Starbucks. A big plus in moving to West Virginia is the people in West Virginia are much friendlier than people in Seattle. Plus, it does not rain all the time in West Virginia like it does in Seattle.

Sale is unlikely. Polaris project - employee reduction is believable

Would be hard to believe there is a sale of a 145 year old company. But a Polaris project employee reorganization (reduction) is more likely. My guess, if you don’t need to physically turn the pipe. Your job will be sent elsewhere.

Good luck everyone.

Sales team and support reps laid off in Ireland

Looks like the whole sales team was axed, and some tech support people were laid off too

1 day after the execs flew over from the US to tell us about how they were happy with the work and with the growing headcount. would have been more decent to just not say anything...

how is it looking in other locations?

Think you can make it? Think again!

According to a survey by the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, nearly six-in-10 retirees (58%) retired sooner than planned. Among this group, 43% cited employment reasons such as job loss (16%), organizational changes (16%), job unhappiness (14%) and retirement buyout (9%).

No Confidence Vote

Wanted to bring up something that has been bothering me for quite some time, and I believe it's important for us to have some meaningful discussion about it with those charged with the responsibility. Have you noticed that none of the senior leadership team ever formally addresses any of the serious concerns raised on this forum, Peakon surveys, or other feedback channels? Significant, non-trivial concerns such as offshoring plans, aggressive US layoff plans, loss of experienced workers, hiring freezes, shifting workload concerns, RTO policies, office closure plans, growth hubs vs. non-growth hubs, separations vs. severance plans and decisions, work-from-home status, and quality of life concerns are all left unanswered.

All the management rhetoric we've been programmed to embody in our core pillars and principles now feels empty and hollow. It feels quite odd and frankly, very disheartening, that these significant issues are continuously brought up by employees either directly or through forums like this but never receive any formal acknowledgment or response from senior leadership. Why is that? How is it ever acceptable to continue to ignore these employee concerns? Where does SH and the People Team stand?

It stands to reason that it is crucial for this leadership team to be transparent and responsive to the concerns of their employees. Addressing these issues head-on would not only provide clarity but also help in building trust and improving the overall morale within the organization. Given the widespread fear, uncertainty, and doubt that continues to spread, is there any reason we should be confident in our future success or direction with this firm? If we can't answer this question with absolute certainty and conviction, then clearly a restart is the only option.

Layoffs, acquisition pullbacks, slower growth: Accenture hints at grim picture for FY26

Workforce reductions and acquisition exits come as IT demand softens; TCS also cut staff amid industry-wide caution earlier.

"The business optimization program has two parts. One related to rapid talent rotation that Julie mentioned, which reflects severance associated with headcount reductions that we are making in a compressed timeline, and second, related to the divestiture of two acquisitions that are no longer aligned with our strategic priorities," CFO Angie Park added.

Acquisition Pullbacks:

Messaging: "didn't align with our strategic priorities"

"Accenture also announced plans to exit certain non-core businesses and divest assets worth $865 million as part of its ongoing portfolio optimization strategy. The move is aimed at reallocating resources toward higher-growth areas, particularly AI, digital services, and cloud-driven initiatives, enabling the company to streamline operations while strengthening its focus on emerging technologies."

Explanations?

Hey guys, can someone explain what's going on, even from rumors:

  • Why the downsize
  • Rough number on the downsize (5% now, 5% in Q4?)
  • This appears to be worldwide
  • What does India have to do with any of this?

I'm grateful to still have my role, but I'm terrible at being "in the know" of the bigger picture my company faces. For the sake of discussion, I like my role but people keep saying to steer clear of working at TI. What are reasons for this train of thought?

Thank y'all!

Product Execution?!?!?

Heard a lot of this was due to poor product execution?!? TI did not deliver on a quality product to a customer and had to sell off what they could and make major cost adjustments internally?!?! Anyone can confirm or deny this. Or is this the same BS spiel given every single RIF?!?!?!

Oregonian article

The Oregonian is not very Nike-friendly in general. But it calls the attention how in recent layoffs articles they have not mentioned Nike .

Highly recommended

Interesting comments everywhere.

“This is getting out of hand. Huge company wanting to put shareholders first which is fine but these reorgs are getting out of control. If you work at Accenture consider a target on ur back”
“Accenture is pushing all work possible offshore”
"’Bro, you're old...get out!’
Seriously, just say it. We all know you're thinking it.”
“This is somewhat comical because Accenture came into my company 4 years ago and replaced 17 of us with offshore resources.”
“They are a cancer. My company almost hired them but we had enough pull to with management to convince them to go with an onshore only company that probably saved our jobs”
“This is what accenture does. Replaces manual tasks with their own monkeys offfshore.”
“These weren’t manual tasks. We were lead and principal engineers across the IT function. They just figured they could wing it with people who had never used a computer before. I’m beyond caring about how much they must have sc--wed up.”
“I have dealt with Accenture at my current company. Through a common client we had. Accenture was not helpful in doing work in a timely fashion for requests we were working through with the client and ultimately this led to the client churning. They they were not happy about how long it was taking to get things set up, when a lot of the time was spent waiting on Accenture. On top of that Accenture was not as helpful with working with our product as the client was expecting.
So honestly, out of the partner vendors our clients use, Accenture was the worst by far.”

“So goodbye to CEOs and Directors who don’t know sh-t all about Ai ? lol”
“correct 🤣 not a word they knw”
How "Sweet" of you to think that.”
“How the he-l can the define who CANNOT BE RETRAINED? What absolute nonsense is this?!? Tf?”

Just like McKinsey, ACN goes around making clients cut jobs (reduce personnel), while they stretch project so they can keep banking for as long as possible without tangible outcomes, there’s nothing AI-magnificent about any of this.

Oh well...
