Roles

Just out of curiosity, with the whole title change and whatnot.

Saying that our titles are a reflection on what we are and what we do, personally going from SSR to mow.

For the sales reps, aside from writing orders, taking DMI photos, and on occasion actually selling in additional displays when managers actually allow the extra space.

What is the difference between an SSR and a sales rep?

Finding Sales & Marketing Talent

Hi folks,

After almost 19 years at Cengage, I'm now happily working with a smaller publisher. I need to fill some open roles in Sales & Marketing at the individual contributor and leadership levels. Any suggestions on where to find the best Sales & Marketing talent that might fit well with a smaller org? What job sites do you tend to use?

The "post and pray" approach on LinkedIn and similar doesn't seem to be great--I'm getting a lot of "easy apply" resumes that aren't super relevant. Meanwhile, I see on sites like this one that layoffs at Cengage (and competitors) continue, so I'm looking for any suggestions on where/how to more actively find Sales & Marketing talent. I've already hit up my own network directly; looking for any advice on additional avenues to pursue...

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Has anyone reviewed their OWBPA?

Has anyone looked at the distribution of RIF employees? For those who were part of the RIF it should be in workday. It’s a 47 page document. Just curious what your thoughts are. I reviewed the data by extracting the PDF into and excel. I wanted to analyze it because I wanted to see what the age distribution was. I can safely say that 40+ vs 40 under age range did not have a statistical significance.associated with selection of older employees at least for the line I reviewed. The selection rate was also evenly spaced out among age bands between 8-11% on any age group. There was a disproportionate impact on Sales teams at 30%+ percent accounting for the majority of the RIF. I don’t believe these numbers include the VSP numbers.

Cisco club

Let me get this right, as a reward for busting your a-s off all year round, closing multi-million dollar deals and rising to the top 1% of all sales reps, you get a 4 day Hawaii 'vacation' which you spend locked up in a resort 'networking' with your corporate programmed coworkers? Sounds like a dream

Sales Rep out permanently

Im one of the Sales representatives that are being let go on October 2nd. Im in northwest Missouri. They are also expanding my territory into Iwo and more stops in Nebraska. I have over 30 years of experience with this game, and I'm totally sick of this!! They're running this crazy business in the ground!! Never had enough help and they always say they're looking and recruiting but always the same answer! Can't find anyone!!

Salesforce - the nail in the coffin

Nothing like replacing an ordering system that worked fine - opus, and then replacing it with salesforce. But hey, it's ok, everyone is using salesforce now, as so should we. Watching the 17 screens of salesforce flash, redirect, load, bouncing ba--s - hang on were almost there - gives us all time to figure out what we are doing for lunch that day. Or hey, look at that butterfly on the window. You took a transaction that could be handled in just a few minutes and you destroyed the customer experience - all by using salesforce. After all, slowing down employees and hindering them is the object here. Houston we have a problem here - the sales reps are operating in an efficient manner - we have got to slow them down. Roger that, salesforce launching in full force - this will ki-l their numbers. But hey, everyone is using it and so should you, just gimme 9 more boosters while your at it.

And now Dallas is going?

Whatever the reasons behind his departure, from where I sit Dallas was one of the few senior leaders who seemed to genuinely understand how sales at NetApp needs to function — how the field, partners, customers and internal teams actually need to work together to win.

At a time when the organisation already feels like it is going through constant change, losing someone with that level of commercial understanding raises even more questions about the direction we are heading in.

People keep talking about transformation, high achievement and driving results, but you also have to ask why experienced people who understand the business are leaving.

Who is actually listening to the people on the ground?

WTH 🤦

It’s maddening how toxic this place is. So many layoffs, no budgets for promotions raises etc. everyone is just so burned out in my org. Layoff after layoff, doing more with less. Meanwhile, record sales and the company livestreams GSX to all of us poors. Sales, product and engineering are all crutial parts of a business but it’s clearly a sales-over-everything business.

Sales was Impacted

I have confirmation sales was laid off, obviously from someone in sales, and I have access to tables confirming it. This is going to be a long, slow roll, folks. We shouldn’t panic. This is likely a BU at a time.

Sales clowns

Imagine you’re one of a seller’s customers and you’ve just spent $2 million on Cisco security products. You’ve spent months negotiating discounts, explaining budget pressure, and hearing that the seller has pushed internally to get you “the absolute best deal possible.”

Then LinkedIn serves you a photograph of your AE holding a giant HAWAII boarding pass because they crushed their sales target
