New CTO coming in, Al Tara being demoted back to ciso. Definitely more cuts coming in tech, would bet money on it. Best case he just replaces a few MDs with his own friends, worst case he realizes what a complete sh*t show Citi tech infrastructure is currently and gets rid of the entire tech dinosaur ecosystem

Tech Firms Announce Over 1,000 Bay Area Job Cuts
Tech companies in the Bay Area have announced significant job reductions in September, totaling over 1,000 positions. These cuts are described as permanent and come amidst a broader trend of tech industry layoffs. Oracle, Uber, and PayPal are among the companies implementing these workforce reductions. Despite these layoffs, the Bay Area as a whole has seen an increase in overall employment. The number of tech job cuts in 2026 is already significantly higher than the total for the previous year.

Disney Announces Further Workforce Reductions
Disney is reportedly implementing another round of layoffs this week, impacting HR, product, and tech departments. These cuts follow similar actions taken in April, July, and August, bringing the total number of workforce reductions to four within the current fiscal year. The company's fiscal year concludes at the end of September, a common time for such adjustments to be reflected in financial reporting. While Disney has not officially confirmed these layoffs, sources suggest the moves are part of a broader streamlining strategy. Notably, these reductions do not affect the company's parks and experiences division.

Tech jobs going to india
More layoffs last week. More coming. Those in tech need to be aware the new tech center is absorbing their role!
Takis mentioned promotions are happening this year but we don’t see that in Tech FIG
Takis mentioned promotions are there this year but Tech FIG hugely impacted this year no merit or Promotion cycles despite of many concerns raised to Sr Leadership! Looks like FIG co head blocked that and Takis isn’t aware?
Tech Support has turned into a complete disaster
I used to be somewhat impressed with Tech Support as I could get an American-based tech relatively quickly, but it has gradually devolved into a sh!t show where NOTHING gets resolved.
I don’t have to tell you why.
It’s unbelievably frustrating to be on the phone with someone who you know doesn’t understand what you’re telling them and who keeps reverting back to a useless script.
I can’t be the only one experiencing this.
Pumping the brakes on AI
It’s happening folks! AI is now under the microscope. They rode the gravy train and now it’s emptying out. Regulations around development, use and yes, replacing human jobs with it is all in the mix. It’s another .com crash. It’s hit the breaking point. All jobs lost to AI will be scrutinized, all wealth gained will be scrutinized. Yes, AI kept us off the recession cliff, but it was not regulated and now they are seeing the damage of their disastrous decisions. It’s going to be heavily scrutinized and it’s possible within a couple of weeks all development will be halted. What does that do to tech corps? Pause on all infrastructure in pipeline. It’s going to get bumpy.
Any layoffs today?

Where your name is just a compensation number for IBM executives to strike off
After all this -> https://lnkd.in/p/g_Ra3Znm IBM management still laid her off (my guess is manager had a target number and he had to save his a-s). My problem is with this narrative of large tech companies (IBM in particular for years now) even with quarter on quarter profits doing selective layoffs to protect their executives and their bonuses (not a real layoff in the sense) and we go on linked-in and praise them and normalize it , where does this really end (cause everybody now start doing the same since they know nobody can go bad mouth them in public) because of their sheer size and need to be visible and employed through linked-in.
Some Tech Jobs Growth At Least
I hope this is at least a bit of good news for folks that got affected - summary & link below:
- U.S. tech employment grew by 86,000 workers in August 2026.
- Tech companies themselves cut about 14,700 jobs.
- More than 320,000 active job postings required AI-related skills.
- Employers are shifting from AI experimentation to real-world implementation.
- Nearly 600,000 tech-job openings remained active, with 42% newly posted.
- Much of the tech hiring is happening outside traditional tech companies.
- AI-related roles are rising rapidly while traditional software-development hiring is weakening.

Bay Area Tech Layoffs Exceed Last Year's Total
Tech industry job cuts in the Bay Area have already surpassed the entire previous year's total by September 2026. Companies like PayPal, Amazon, and Synopsys have announced significant downsizing. This year's disclosed eliminations reached 12,947 positions, a 27% increase over 2025. Meta Platforms has led these reductions, planning to eliminate 3,715 roles in the region. The trend indicates a challenging period for tech employment in the Bay Area.

Walmart H1B hiring statistics
Here’s some alarming information. You’re gonna p-e yourself when you see how much Walmart is paying those H1B guys:
Total Filings: Historically filed over 21,500 total applications across multiple years, with about 3,545 H-1B LCAs filed in recent baseline annual cycles.
Salary Range: The median H-1B salary is approximately $136,000 to $145,703 depending on the fiscal year data, with 75% of salaries falling below $162,227.
Employee Base: Walmart employs over 2,000 H-1B visa holders, primarily concentrated in technology, engineering, and e-commerce positions.
Shame on Walmart for not paying its US associates at a similar rate.

Non Stop Computer Outages
I have intimate knowledge into Capone's technical infrastructure and it's completely disastrous, period. The merging of infrastructure will take another 8 years. During that time and even in the last 6 months there has been many internal and consumer facing outages. The more outages the better. LOL.
Seattle Job Market Sees Major Industry Shift
The Seattle area is experiencing a significant change in its job market, moving away from its tech dominance. Healthcare and frontline services are now driving job growth, while tech and science positions have seen a decline. This restructuring is impacting the regional labor force, with some tech workers seeking opportunities in other fields. The shift is attributed to various factors, including hiring in essential services and a decrease in tech-specific roles. Experts emphasize the need for awareness regarding these widespread economic changes.

Tech cuts to FTE
I dont understand why are they making cuts to the tech when they need us to do the work it's already been shown at the very least we are cheaper than the AI alternatives.
Mobility rate numbers don't make sense
how is it possible that brokerage can have a mobility rate almost 40%?
am I in an echo chamber in tech where there is no mobility?
are other business functions having one in three folks or I guess higher since nothing's happening in tech change roles? is that number for a one-year time period? or is it for like their entire career at Fidelity?
Stop claiming everybody is a nepo hire
Seriously if you can't get hired, it's because you're not good enough. People are even claiming that the interns are nepos which is laughable to me. This company's standards are not low enough to hire anybody from a mom and pop shop.
I also hate that Indians are automatically assumed to be nepos. Indian Americans with technical degrees are overrepresented in major metros, that's just how it is.
If/When we merge, what tech stack are we using?
Ours or Warners? Doesn’t it make sense to ingest all the Warner content into P+ and call it good or are we just going scrap everything we’ve built for the past 4 years?

What a cr-p company
Right when you think it cannot get more ridiculous they prove you wrong. I dont want to quit in this market but the moment I find anything comparable I am out of this stinker. My manager is still asking us for project updates like she thinks anything matters. Such an incompetent woman in tech.

Tech Layoffs Dampen Seattle Housing Demand
A new report indicates Seattle's housing market is experiencing a significant slowdown. This decline is attributed to widespread layoffs within the tech industry, creating buyer uncertainty. Pending home sales have dropped sharply, reflecting a cautious approach from potential homeowners. Despite a slight price decrease, the median home price remains very high. The tech sector's instability is a primary driver of this market sluggishness.

Tech Layoffs - # of SV cuts in 2026 is already nearing 2025 total [Palo Alto Online]
Take it for what it's worth:
- Silicon Valley tech layoffs are surging: 7,295 jobs were cut in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties in the first half of 2026—already within 9% of the total for all of 2025 and on pace for the worst year since 2023.
- Layoffs don’t necessarily signal a recession: Despite heavy cuts, Silicon Valley unemployment was only 3.9% in June. Joint Venture Silicon Valley argues the region remains in an innovation “bo-m,” with pandemic-era overhiring and AI enabling companies to operate with smaller teams.
- Meta accounts for a large share, and the true total may be higher: Meta cut roughly 3,382 local positions. The analysis relies on California WARN notices, which generally capture larger layoffs at larger employers, so researchers say the figures likely undercount actual job losses.

Silicon Valley Tech Job Cuts Accelerate
Tech companies in Silicon Valley have significantly increased employee layoffs in the first half of 2026. These reductions are approaching the total number of job cuts seen throughout all of 2025. This trend suggests the tech industry is experiencing its most substantial workforce reductions since 2023. Despite these layoffs, the unemployment rate in Silicon Valley remains relatively low. Experts attribute the cuts to companies recalibrating after pandemic-era overhiring and the rise of AI technologies.

Tech Hiring Surges Despite AI Layoffs
A recent analysis of U.S. tech job postings reveals a significant increase in hiring despite ongoing layoffs. Employers are prioritizing cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and data system expertise over niche AI skills. Amazon Web Services (AWS) emerged as the most sought-after skill, appearing in 30% of job ads. Cloud platforms collectively were required in nearly 42% of postings, highlighting their critical role. The tech sector remains the largest employer, with California and Virginia leading in job vacancies.
