"Declination of Notification Period" Form -- Has Anyone Attempted?

THEORETICAL SITUATION: You're in NJ and were given 90 days notice; however, you have another job lined up to start well before then. According to the "Mgmt Severance Program FAQ" doc:

"If you seek to separate from the company prior to the last day of employment date set forth in your Notification letter and still remain eligible for severance, you will need to complete and submit a valid Declination of Notification Period form, which would need to be approved by the appropriate parties at the company."

QUESTION: Has anyone attempted this or have any insight as to whether or not this request is likely to be approved/denied?

Thanks!

Layoffs at Mare Island Dry Dock in Vallejo

The town that the U.S. Navy built, then fractured when the base closed in 1996 -- Vallejo -- is about to be hit again with job and industry loss as the dry dock at the West Coast's oldest shipyard facility announced it will be undergoing major layoffs at Mare Island.

Laid off in my 50s with no pension and no plan

I'm part of this middle-aged surplus they've created. I'm too young to retire and too old to feel like I can start over. The future I planned for my family (the security, the college funds, the stability) is gone. I feel like I've completely failed them. I'm honestly feeling like I'm at my lowest right now.

May 2026 Be Your Year!

To all of those who are treated like cattle sitting in small stalls all day while the elites sit in their offices with their doors closed…emerging once a day to say hi to the little people while deciding who to layoff off (mainly based on politics) God Bless You.

To all of you who sit in those offices who have never been laid off thinking you’re better than the rest filled with entitlement, arrogance and ignorance for not knowing how your decisions hurt others and the smugness of thinking you’ll never be laid off because you are somehow so invaluable…may 2026 be the year you yourself experiences this for the first time.

A layoff damages and impacts people in ways you can only know if you experience it first hand. It’s your turn.

Notice Period

I’m putting in my notice Feb 13 after bonus drops. I see there is now a 30-60 day mandatory notice period for most employees, enforced mainly by a clawback provision in recently vested RSRs. Any way I can stop working sooner without incurring that penalty? Up to managers discretion? I can’t work more than much beyond the 13th without splattering my brains onto the front of 550 tryon

Mercedes-Benz Financial Services to lay off 157 Farmington Hills employees

A total of 157 current employees of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in Farmington Hills, Michigan, will lose their jobs as part of an office relocation.

The company filed a WARN Act notice this month with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, explaining how a previously announced company move settled out.

Another layoff at Charles River Labs

“We are continuously evaluating our business operations to ensure alignment with long-term strategic goals,” CRL spokesperson Amy Cianciaruso, said by email Dec. 26. “A key part of that strategy is evaluating our workforce to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time. We are working with impacted employees to provide the necessary resources to help them through this period."

Don't wait for a severance that might never come

Everyone needs to remember that severance pay is a gift, not a right. There's no law that forces a company to offer it when they let you go. If you're at Fidelity and waiting for a buyout package, you're gambling. You could end up in a crowded job market with no savings to help you transition. The smart move is to start your job search now, while you're still employed. Don't wait for a promise they're not obligated to keep.

Am I training my replacement?

I don't have enough work to stay busy as it is, but management has now instructed me to train a new hire to do my exact job. I'm the only one in this specific role on my team. Am I just being paranoid, or does this sound like I'm training my own replacement for an upcoming layoff?

PIP In Disguise as Layoff

I have hit all my goals and performance metrics, and still receive a partial meets. Which put me on a PIP. Is a PIP just a way for the company to let someone go without giving them a package, like they did in the past when it was a layoff?

Has anyone used a lawyer in Florida to fight this when it has happened?

4 Rounds of New Year Layoffs and Its not even 2026 Yet!

OMFG, it’s not even 2026 yet and there were already 4 rounds of layoffs announced. According to the WARN Tracker website, West Des Moines is laying off another 65 (1/2,1/23 and 2/6). Sacramento is laying off another 114 employees on 2/6. While it’s great to have a paycheck, this place is toxic AF and not worth the fear this place is filling my soul with. WF used to be such a fun and great place to work.

Over a year later, I'm being asked to apply for my old job

I was laid off at the end of last year and have since landed a new job, so I’m in a good place. Still, getting contacted and encouraged to reapply at Nielsen completely threw me off. The role sounds very close to what I used to do, which makes it even more confusing. After being let go, this kind of outreach feels tone-deaf. I’m not going back, but I’d love to understand what’s actually going on behind the scenes when this happens.

Rider lays off 30 full-time faculty

The administration laid off 30 full-time faculty members on Dec. 29 as part of Rider President John Loyack’s March to Sustainability Plan. The move comes after the administration went to arbitration with Rider’s faculty union over how to layoff faculty.

Community service hours count as in office?

I am trying to make it to bonus day in early February. Only have 3 carry over PTO days and that only gets me until MLK week. I do not want to go into office as an hour away. I also grabbed all my personal stuff from office and do not plan on going back.....I know PTO of 4 hours meets the 3 day a week goal and exemption me on 8 hour a day requirement. Do 4 hours of community service meet the same 3 days and 8 hour requirement as well if use 3 a week?

Looks like we get 16 hours of community service hours at start of year which would get me to February..(I know they won't prorate these days when I turn in notice but would do PTO). Also, would they try to get funds back for USA floating holiday and Personal holiday if I use them before quitting/ retiring?

Waiting for redundancy

If DXC gets sold or has to declare chapter 11. You will get close to nothing. We just had a colleague laid off after 25 plus years and only got 15 weeks (based in US) For the love of whatever you believe in, read the terms for YOUR contract and location. I'm all for sitting around and doing nothing (it's quite nice) but look for an exit while you can so you are not blindsided. Leaving on your own terms is much nicer.

Look out for yourself first

The reality is Qualcomm doesn’t treat employees like people. If you get laid off, you’ll be off their radar immediately. If you stick around, you’ll just be expected to work longer, follow every rule, and stay quiet no matter what. Your well-being comes first. Start looking for a new role. Trust me, it’s worth the effort.

Coworker trained her own replacement

A teammate who got laid off in the last round spent weeks helping a new hire learn the job, showing him the ropes, answering questions, in essence, training the person who would take over. And then suddenly, she's gone, without warning. The new hire is now doing her old role. I can’t wrap my head around how companies actually do this.

Why refuse jobs?

I keep seeing posts from people saying they can’t land a job, and I’m confused. So many who have been laid off seem to refuse anything that doesn’t feel perfect or exactly their level. How do you manage to be so picky if there’s no paycheck coming in? Do you think severance will last forever?
