Layoffs 1 Year Later

So how do the layoffs which tool place 1 year ago look now as a strategic initiative ?

On December 23, 2024, AM Best wrote the following:

Mutual of America Financial Group is laying off employees as part of its focus on becoming a "more efficient, strategic and customer-focused organization."

Is it more efficient now ?
Is it more client focused ?
Is this all just smoke and mirrors ?

Any reliable info on what’s coming?

I mean something useful and at least somewhat credible. We all know major layoffs are coming, so it would be great to have a heads-up. And let’s be kind to each other, losing our jobs would be tough. The job market out there isn’t exactly cheerful or full of options.

We should be ready for bad outcomes

Ending up in PE hands would probably mean a bloodbath. Private equity is almost always focused on extracting value first, which, of course, means massive cuts. Not that we aren’t trained by experience to expect the worst, but this would be a major threat to most of our jobs.

Intel Year End Review and what to expect? How did LBT avoid his own layoff by Trump?

"LBT achieved getting paid a lot of money by Intel. Also increased stock price from 20 to 40. Convinced Trump Intel was too big to fail and not only got him to donate money, got him to Arm twist nVidia to do so too. Also got Intel to donate to his startups. Wow! Increased margins by reducing headcount, either by outright layoffs or by giving employees BE and PIP thereby saving severance package. Increased productivity by telling employees to “laser focus” on working hard.

However, Intel is nowhere in AI. Anybody who is employable enough to find a job at some other company has done that by now."

"I am wondering how much he paid to the government officials to avoid his own layoff and even got the fund to bump up the stock. Remember INTC stock was kicked out the DOW earlier not too long ago and why it is suddenly bump up almost 100% in just a few months (?) Who is behind the manipulation order ?"

How long before intel's inflated stock plunges?

CRG National Sales

I understand that they laid off employees in October and they encouraged them to reapply for their positions. Does anyone have information on how many were let go and how many have been brought back? I've heard they were considering external candidates because those who were let go were unofficially not meeting expectations. Is there any truth to this?

I’m having a great time because I was laid off

I thought I would fall off a cliff when it happened, but instead I’ve never felt so unburdened. It wasn’t just the relief after all that anticipation, but also realizing how much I actually hated my job and how completely I had lost perspective on what matters while constantly being on edge in a small, toxic team. I just hope I don’t reach a point a year from now where I feel awful and am still jobless.

128 UPS jobs cut in Alabama under WARN notice

The Alabama layoffs are part of a broader workforce reduction at UPS, which announced in October that it had cut 48,000 jobs nationwide across its management and operations divisions, as the company works to streamline costs.

Better watch out …..

The goal to let people go is a different feel now they will look for every little reason to fire someone and to make sure the severance cost plummets so make sure you hit your goals office expectations etc yes I know this is old news but it isn’t because it is a real goal so look for more firings in 2026

Wall Street Has Stopped Rewarding 'Strategic' Layoffs (fortune.com)

The traditional Wall Street playbook held that layoffs tied to strategic restructuring would boost stock prices, while cuts driven by declining sales would hurt them. That distinction appears to have collapsed.
Goldman's analysts suggest investors simply don't believe what companies are saying ... The real driver, analysts suspect, may be cost reduction to offset rising interest expenses and declining profitability rather than any forward-looking efficiency play.

Goldman Sachs expects layoffs to keep rising—and says investors are punishing the stocks of companies that slash staff

“Linking recent layoff announcements to public companies’ earnings reports and stock market data, we find that the recent increase in layoff announcements came mainly from companies that attributed their layoffs to benign factors, such as restructuring driven by automation and technological advancements.” But instead of going up, these stocks fell by an average of 2%. And companies that cited restructurings were punished even more harshly. As the analysts wrote, “This suggests that, despite the benign justifications offered, the equity market has perceived recent layoff announcements as a negative signal about these companies’ prospects.”

LCS needs a purge

It was a farce from the beginning. The organization selected incompetent and unqualified individuals to LCS. Instead of choosing the right people based on skills, selection was based on politics…you help me and I help you. It’s an organization full of backstabbers/ credit stealers who are adept at managing up but achieved little on their own. What’s worst is the nonsense they spout inside and outside the company. A layoff there is needed.

Sad xmas

I can’t sleep after being laid off by digi-wreck a few months back and not finding anything to replace my job. I could not buy gifts this year for my kids and we are all scared.. I tried to apply for fast food, retail, and construction jobs until I find something in IT and they said I was over qualified. We will keep trying. Please don’t forget those of us that were laid off and those that will be losing their jobs next year. It is really sad and very real. I wish they had just told us there was a high possibility of lay offs in advance so we could have searched before the layoffs happened but they didn’t trust their teams . My family does wish you all happiness this holiday season.

Being laid off from IBM might actually be a gift

Getting laid off from IBM ended up being a lot more freeing than I expected. At first it stung, but once the dust settled, I realized I’d been stuck in a place that was going nowhere. Constant reorganizations, shifting priorities, and leadership that never seemed to agree on a direction made every day feel unstable. It was exhausting trying to stay motivated when the ground kept moving under your feet.
Looking back, getting pushed out forced me to step back and see how unhealthy the situation really was. The stress, the uncertainty, and the endless talk with very little action had become normal, and that’s not a great place to be. I was able to focus on finding something more stable and rewarding, instead of clinging to a job that was slowly burning me out.
