Exec Calls to increase "voluntary turnover" on "leadership development" call

Was anyone else listening in on the Leadership Development call on Tuesday? Things were going as expected, until the final comments when the male leader suggested that the way to increase our revenue per employee is to encourage people to leave voluntarily. Did anyone else catch that? Seemed like they said the quiet part out loud

Old vs. New Employee tenure

I’ve noticed this trend: older, more tenured employees aren’t leaving on their own however young people seem to get out of here fast. Very few make it to 2 years. I realize the younger generations are prone to job hopping so some of this is expected but a lot of it is based on their desire to get away from the toxic environment. So why do tenured employees stay? Too close to retirement? Waiting for severance? Afraid of looking for a job elsewhere?

Truist Exits Auto Loans, Triggers Layoffs

Truist Financial Corporation is selling its near-prime auto loan portfolio for $5.5 billion. This strategic shift involves exiting the auto loan business. As a result, its subsidiary Regional Acceptance Corporation is closing an Arlington office. Over 200 full-time employees will be laid off from this location. The affected workers will begin losing their jobs in late November.

Experience isn't easy to replace

Getting rid of longtime employees might save money immediately, but there's a lot that doesn't show up on a balance sheet. Years of knowing how things actually work can't always be handed over to someone new. Once too many of such people are shown the door, Oracle may discover just how much they were carrying. Saving money today doesn't necessarily mean saving money later.

I can't figure out the criteria

I've made it through at least six layoffs now, and all of them left me scratching my head. All the rounds didn't seem to follow any obvious pattern. There were people with years of experience who disappeared, while others I expected to be vulnerable stayed. But then again, some of the newbies were also gone. Different pays, different statuses, different ratings... No common ground whatsoever.

Stone Brewing Faces Layoffs Amid Ownership Changes

Stone Brewing is undergoing significant changes following its recent acquisition by Firestone Walker. While the new ownership is investing in and expanding some operations, the former production facility and restaurant in Escondido are slated for closure. This closure will result in the layoff of approximately 220 employees by January. These job cuts are a consequence of Sapporo, the previous owner, shutting down the Escondido site after failing to find a buyer. In contrast, Stone Brewing's Liberty Station location will receive upgrades and continue brewing operations.

Healthcare Networks Announce Significant Staff Reductions

Two major Vermont healthcare providers are implementing substantial layoffs due to financial pressures. Dartmouth Health is terminating 124 employees and canceling 303 open positions. The University of Vermont Health network is laying off 199 staff members and closing two patient care units. These cuts are intended to address increasing operational costs and shrinking patient revenue. Both organizations are facing nationwide financial challenges within the healthcare industry.

Cost of lost mid and late career employees

You can replace us when we quit but our replacements will never have the knowledge of why decisions were made 5,10, 20 years ago. You will have to repeat mistakes and relearn what we already know. The cost of losing what we know will be immense. Good luck surviving the Exxodus. It has only just begun.

https://lnkd.in/p/gYki6pGh

There's definitely another Exxodus wave happening

A lot of prior ones were heavily weighted to early career employees with less than 10 years.

It seems like now a lot of mid career employees with 10-25 years are seeing opportunities shrink and are voting with their feet. Lots of very highly regarded employees and high performers don't see a future with EM. Most who leave do extremely well elsewhere.

Bumped from @bz+1m197mkb2.

How they Decide Who Goes?

I've been thinking about how the layof pool actually gets selected...my guess is it goes something like this, roughly in this order. Would you agree? Am I off on the sequence or missing a category? Reply with what you've actually seen so we can get closer to understanding the process...

  • HR offenders/issues AKA "problems"
  • Low performers
  • Duplicate/redundant positions
  • Remote employees
  • High-cost employees
  • Teams/functions being consolidated
  • Employees on canceled/deprioritized projects
  • Overlapping management positions
  • Low direct report count management
  • Recent hires in areas that over-hired
  • Random employees to meet the headcount quota

IGN Staff Reductions Amidst Industry Bo-m

Ziff Davis, the parent company of IGN, has implemented layoffs across multiple departments of the video game website. This action comes just two months before the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Prominent figures like presenters Seth Macy and Brian Altano, along with tech writer Bo Moore, were among those affected. The total number of employees laid off remains undisclosed. This is not the first instance of Ziff Davis conducting staff reductions at IGN.

You can't replace experience overnight

People keep leaving with knowledge that took them years to build. A new hire can learn the basics, but they can't suddenly know all the little things an experienced employee picked up over decades. Management seems to think everything can be documented and handed over. I'd like to be a fly on that wall when they realize how untrue that is.

Did You Know?

Did you know that 250 HCSC employees retired last year? Did you know that the number is 300 and counting this year? HR er um the "People" division knows. But they're talking about it as a trend, not another indication that the culture is in the toilet. If these were just "front line" employees but executives are heading for the exits because they can't deal with the craziness anymore.

Did you also know that beginning in January, employees in Richardson and Chicago are going to have to swipe their badges to leave the building at the end of the day? This is not a rumor. This is going to happen. It's been in the works. They wanted to do this earlier this year but came to their senses when they realized that along with making 75% of the workforce remote that would be too much.

Today is the first day of the Pulse survey. You're kidding yourself if you think it's anonymous. Even HR stopped telling that lie. They're very sensitive to negative comments and identify who says what. But you probably knew that. If not, you do now. Comment at your own risk.

One more did you know. HR is getting ready for another one of their "operations" (layoffs) in 2027. This won't be because the company isn't making money. It's going to be positioned as "eliminating redundancies." This is not a rumor either. This is going to happen.

Ruiz Foods Cuts California Workforce Again

Ruiz Foods has announced another round of layoffs affecting 176 employees at its Dinuba, California facility. This marks the second such reduction in California since the company relocated its headquarters to Texas two years ago. The company cited a need to align production capacity with anticipated customer demand as the reason for the decision. Despite these layoffs, the Dinuba plant will remain operational and is considered a critical part of Ruiz Foods' manufacturing network. This follows a previous layoff of 215 employees at a Tulare facility.

Allegiance facing job loss after being acquired by Cogna

Allegiance is a TPA thats been owned by Cigna for some time now and up until last year handled its own hiring/ firing process, benefits for employees and totally independent CEO. We were fully integrated with Cigna’s HR structure 1/1/2026. Our entire hr department was let go during this change. We were promised nothing would change except our benefits and we’d have access to apply to cigna internal positions. This hasnt been the case. Our entire reimbursement account department was just let go. This used to be such a nice small company to work for and now we are being run into the ground

PayPal resumes flooding the market

Was talking to a HR consultant yesterday. Was absolutely blown away when she told me every 2nd CV she is seeing is either current or ex PayPal employee. And they are coming from junior, middle and senior level employees. What in the world is happening. It seems except Enrique and his cronies, everyone is jumping the ship.

So many layoffs, and for what?

It's been round after round of layoffs, and I keep asking myself the same question: has any of this actually worked? The numbers might look good on paper, but morale is in the gutter and the best people are walking. The cuts aren't solving anything, they're just making the problem worse.
