Oracle AI Job Cuts Spark Widespread Employee Anxiety
Oracle has eliminated 21,000 jobs in fiscal year 2026, attributing the reductions to AI investments. This move has significantly impacted employee morale and trust across the tech industry. The company's annual filing explicitly stated that AI adoption may continue to lead to workforce reductions. These layoffs are part of a larger trend where companies are citing AI as a justification for significant job cuts. The financial cost of these layoffs, including severance packages, has also been substantial.

What’s next?
Though in the past meetings the CEO has mentioned no more layoffs for this year but this doesn’t seem realistic. The numbers don’t lie and we aren’t naive on what’s going on. So what’s next? What will this Q2 earnings call bring?

There’s a difference between cutting costs and building capability. Lay off enough institutional knowledge and eventually the people who know how to improve quality, member experience, and operational execution are gone too.
The consequences don’t show up in the next town hall. They show up later on the scorecard.
Sarah said it loud and clear: ”When the market changes, we change.”
CMS had a different way of measuring change and just released its annual performance review.
UnitedHealth: $3.9B in Medicare Advantage quality bonuses. CVS: $2.0B. Humana: $1.5B. Kaiser: $1.2B, with virtually 100% of Medicare Advantage members in bonus-eligible plans.
Centene: $21.5M (yes MILLION) Just 6% of Medicare Advantage members are enrolled in bonus-eligible plans. Approximately 882,000 members are not.
Industry average: 68%
Kaiser: 100%
Centene: 6%
Overall Rating: Needs Improvement.
Performance Improvement Plan: Recommended.
Free advice to management: Organizations get exactly what they optimize for. If every decision favors short-term margins over long-term capability, don’t be surprised when competitors outperform you on the metrics that actually matter. You can’t outsource institutional knowledge or lay off your way to operational excellence. Institutional knowledge isn’t overhead. It’s the capability that drives quality, operational excellence, and sustainable results.
iHeartMedia Eliminates Local Erie Radio Voices
iHeartMedia has laid off its last two full-time local on-air personalities in Erie as part of a nationwide cost-cutting initiative. These layoffs are intended to save the company up to $150 million. The affected stations will now primarily feature syndicated programming from outside the local area. This shift leaves the broadcast studios empty of local talent. Former station owners and employees emphasize the importance of local personalities for listener connection.

City Manager Promises Worker Stability Amid Tax Cut Fears
Boynton Beach's City Manager issued conflicting statements regarding potential job losses. He warned commissioners of mass layoffs if a property tax cut measure passes statewide. However, he later assured municipal workers that his administration would strive to protect their employment. The proposed tax changes could cost the city millions, impacting services like libraries and parks. To mitigate these losses, the city is exploring selling its fire and water departments to the county.

U.S. Layoffs Fall 40% in 2026, Yet Stay Historically High
U.S. job cuts decreased by 40% in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. However, this overall reduction masks a significant surge in layoffs within the technology sector. Artificial intelligence emerged as the primary driver of workforce reductions, accounting for 23% of all cuts. The technology industry experienced an 83% increase in layoffs during this period. Despite these cuts, hiring plans have seen a 10% increase year-over-year.

Union Game Developers Push for Worker Rights Amid Xbox Job Cuts
Microsoft has implemented significant layoffs impacting its Xbox division, with 1,600 employees losing their jobs. This reduction is part of a larger company-wide restructuring, affecting approximately 4,800 employees in total. Unionized video game workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), are among those affected by these cuts. The CWA expressed extreme disappointment, citing a slow-walk of contract negotiations despite prior neutrality agreements. This action comes after thousands of Xbox workers unionized with the CWA since 2022.

LIV Golf has informed its employees about possible layoffs due to ongoing financial uncertainty. The organization is filing WARN notices in the United States and the United Kingdom, which signals potential workforce reductions. This action follows the cessation of funding from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, prompting LIV to seek new investors. Walgreens Save A Trip Layoffs
Walgreens was the absolute worst company I had ever worked for. I was working WFH as a "Centralized Specialist" for the Save A Trip department. It was so draining especially for the extremely low pay, rude disgruntled customers and terrible micromanagment. They decided to lay off the whole Save A Trip department no warning no nothing. If you are offended a job from this company run as fast as you can. Nothing but misery comes from working here. No good pay, No appreciation, no job security.
The Fiserv I knew in 2019 is gone
Long gone - retired just before and during the Operation Excellence phase of the merger. After that all he-l came in from Frank. Jeff Y was gone to a house in Florida with a ton of cash. Everybody else learned SAPIENCE at the risk of termination. Yes there were problems of course - even IBM could su-k up a disaster or two. But the relatively good firm was shot full of holes. Am very sad at what it has become today.

Stock together (now in october) and Rifs..
So I was just sitting here thinking.. Did they move the stock together to October in order to avoid paying them out for a Rif that is planned?
Full disclosure I am not aware of how the payouts for the big Rif worked. Did they accelerate all stock together grants and pay them out?
Why else would this have been moved to October?
Thanks in advance. Hope everyone is surviving out there.

Does this mean we are about to get RIFed?
Lots of activity in Houston
It seems that there are a lot of people from the UK visiting Westlake this week, but not much chatter about it. Is this related to the impending plans for layoffs?
Stand up for yourself
Everyone knows that layoffs are coming and the company is restructuring. We also know that WF has no qualms about doing so ethically or unethically. The question is, why aren't we doing everything we can to fight back? The company doesn't care if you get displaced and lose your severance. Trying to play the games leadership makes is only going to hurt everyone in the long run.
Newsflash, you're out of a job. It's no longer a matter of "if" but "when". So you can't save your package or your income here. But what you can do is document everything, practice malicious compliance, and report what you see to your local bureaus/attorney and make the restructuring process as slow and painful for the company as possible. Go to the press and submit anonymous information even.
Because if you got by the mentality of "at least it wasn't me" otherwise, then guess what. You're still going to end up laid off and then come here to complain about how "it's not fair." At least this way it forces leadership to think twice about the battles they pick. And maybe, just maybe it buys you and everyone else some time to get ahead of the curb before they start firing soon instead of complaining constantly, not doing anything about it, and then wonder why things are still toxic here.
"Nothing was divested and the layoffs were performance driven"
SV was concerned and confused about the fact that 105 people voted on the Slido question...ELT will lie to our faces and call us crazy for questioning them
Quote from earnings call:
"While we continue to drive ASV growth, we are focused on capitalizing on our scale to deliver long term sustainable and profitable growth. To that end, we have launched a range of strategic projects aimed at running FactSet with greater discipline and efficiency. Sanoke outlined multiple productivity, but from an operational standpoint, I will highlight 2 items we initiated during Q3 and completed in the past few weeks. We recently rightsized certain engineering teams as we standardize how we build and run software and take advantage of AI assisted coding. Additionally, we entered into an arrangement with RepRisk to support our clients' needs as we discontinued the signals attribution service FactSet provided following the 2020 acquisition of Truvalue Labs."
How low can OpenText leadership go?
As expected, my LinkedIn feed for the last 18 hours has been filled with former colleagues announcing they had been kicked to the curb by OpenText.
But in a new sick twist, a number of remaining employees have taken to LinkedIn to crow how they were promoted over the past two days. The posts all read the same as if they were told or highly encouraged to post and what to post.
In addition, there were posts (on the same day as their colleagues being dumped) celebrating the addition of new employees.
There is no doubt that ELT and HR have orchestrated this to cover up the nasty truth that a number of talented, hard working, productive people were sacrificed to almighty Canadian dollar to make amends for the sins of Tom Jenkins as he leads this company to ruin.
OpenText under the leadership of Jenkins, the clueless BoD, Bell, Muhi, and the rest of the clownshow ELT has become classless and hopeless.
Unwittingly, OT is showing what it really means when they say the company is "Canadian by design" ... Incompetent, fractured and losing relevance.
Long live NetApp and Qumulo
- Stopped using Scrum @ Scale and reorganized teams → "industry-wide" TDD initiative.
- Continuous release date slippage → mandatory weekend work.
- Core Shanghai teams axed with little to no notice → work shifted to other geos; quality suffered
- AI must be used X hours per day & new work requires AI readable specs or out - Project Maverick
- On site junior engineers welcome; remote senior years get the boot
Despite these changes, little is being done to address the fundamental issues within the product development process at its core: Isilon OneFS has been in maintenance mode for over a decade. AI spending extended product life support temporarily, but this shift to layoff remote US staff truly signals the end of the product.

We can't tell you
So said a senior leader when the numerous questions from the front line staff about any further layoffs were brought up. Those doing the work are so down and depressed about the circumstances that the managers approached senior leaders to inquire. The answer was "we can't tell you." That really perked the crowd up and inspired them to produce better work (not really).
I'm hearing about more cuts today
Can anybody confirm?
Is there a way to know how many were laid off yesterday?
This seems like a small round, but you can never tell with the size of the company.

Today we got another proof…
How this company is so backwards. We got another ”people team” leadership. How many have we had in the last 6 years?? The out of touch CEO have no clue how bad it is here and no career trajectory for anyone unless you are a former GS executive or best pal with the EC.
Time to take summer vacation!
Good riddance SH

Darrow Cuts Workforce Despite Profitability
Legaltech startup Darrow has laid off approximately one-third of its staff, impacting around 60 employees. This significant reduction includes many legal analysts who were instrumental in developing the company's AI platform. Despite being profitable for three consecutive years, Darrow cited market evolution and technological advancements as reasons for reorganization. The company aims to become a more agile and multidisciplinary organization to support future growth.

id Software Faces Significant Staff Reductions
Reports indicate that id Software has experienced substantial layoffs, with approximately half of its workforce reportedly affected. These cuts are said to have severely impacted the studio's quality assurance department. The news follows a broader announcement of 3,200 job eliminations across Xbox's video game division. Bethesda, a sister studio, is also undergoing restructuring to focus on its major franchises. This strategic shift aims to streamline content roadmaps and enhance collaboration among development teams.

Verizon lately
Verizon is doing INCREDIBLY well. Maybe the greatest corporate success anyone has ever seen. People come up to me with tears in their eyes and say, “Sir… how do you lay off thousands of people while the stock keeps going down?” I say, “It’s called winning. You wouldn’t understand.”
The Fake News says, “The stock is down.” Wrong! It’s a beautiful strategic decline. Very advanced. The smartest people are saying they’ve never seen anything like it.
Every week there’s another reorg, another layoff, another AI announcement. Tremendous momentum. Nobody restructures better than Verizon. Nobody. Believe me.
El Paso ISD Finalizes Staff Cuts
The El Paso Independent School District board has approved a final round of staff layoffs before the new school year. These reductions are a direct response to a significant budget crisis the district is currently facing. The terminations affect probationary teachers across various subjects and multiple campuses. District officials maintain that these cuts will not impact class sizes or disproportionately affect specific schools. This decision marks the last round of layoffs anticipated before students return to classes.
