What’s with the recent push for Subsurface talent management?

The floodgates opened a month or two ago after a year+ of absolutely no guidance. It’s like someone flipped a switch and all of a sudden, employee growth is important to CVX again. Seems like there is an email or engagement every week on this. I’m not upset by the change - it’s refreshing to see, frankly.

What led to this change in attitude from the corporation, and what’s the underlying motivation? Is attrition that bad? Call me skeptical but I don’t believe they read the CES and created this program solely in response to it.

Nothing says "we are proud of our flexibility" quite like the threat of collective punishment.

What a joke. I'm fine with the 3-day RTO enforcement, but not counting holidays as in-office is a kick in the teeth, for sure.
The corpo-rat doublespeak is glaring. Sure, "we are proud of the flexibility of our hybrid model," BUT here are a lot of things making it as inflexible and inconvenient as possible. Also, "most colleagues adhere to the requirements," BUT we felt the need to hit everyone with brutal collective punishments.
I don't know who believes this cr-p; they are not even trying anymore.

Today the final reckoning begins.

Today when the bell rings. The final reckoning begins. Nike is going to reap what its owed. The years of woke advertisement, DEI, the coverups, the bad choices they kept making. It's all boomeranging back. The allainating of the man in the street, it's over.
Today it begins, and October 1 it ends.

Smiles week

Everyone ready for smiles week?

Rough month to schedule it, but the calendar invite had already gone out.

For the uninitiated: SMILES Week is when a large company that sells both chips and soda sends everyone a calendar invite to be happy. It's also the month a chunk of our jobs moved to a shared services center in India or Mexico and everyone left behind got a second job's worth of work to "absorb." The timing is either an accident or the funniest thing HR has ever done.

The agenda, roughly:

Monday: Gratitude Circle. Share one thing you're grateful for. I'm grateful my role wasn't in this batch. Yet.

Tuesday: "Doing More With Less" fireside chat. Less is the headcount. More is you.

Wednesday: Wellness Wednesday. Twenty minutes of guided breathing to prepare you for the twelve hours of work that showed up when your teammate got "transitioned." Chair yoga, because standing up looks too much like a walkout.

Thursday: Career Development Day. Big news: the beverage rep and the snack rep are becoming one person. Two P&Ls, two scorecards, two bosses, one paycheck. That's not a merged role, that's a hostage situation with a route sheet.

Friday: Free lunch. One bag of chips, 40% air. Also the target fill rate for open positions.
Closing note from leadership: "Our people are our greatest asset." Assets get depreciated. Please see the attached schedule.

Weekend Edition
SMILES Week officially runs Monday through Friday, which is the schedule of the people who planned it. The people it's about work seven days.

Saturday: Customer Obsession Day. Corporate is at brunch. The field is in a big-box backroom looking for a pallet the system says arrived Thursday. Our in-stock score is tracked to the decimal point and worked by a merchandiser we pay $20 an hour, hired Tuesday, who can make $22 with no weekends at the warehouse across the highway. We told him he's the face of the company. He asked if the face of the company gets mileage.

Saturday, 6:40 a.m. He quit by text. His route is still green on the dashboard, because the dashboard finds things out on Monday, same as his manager.

Sunday: Rest & Recharge Day. The email says rest. The store manager's text at 7:15 says the cooler is empty. That same store manager fills out our customer service survey. "On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely are you to recommend us?" He gave a 3. The rep who covered the route unpaid will be coached on that 3 during Monday's Gratitude Circle.

Weekend Bonus: #SmileSelfie Challenge. Post a photo of yourself smiling in an account. Winner gets a $25 gift card, the biggest raise anyone in the photo has seen since 2024. Pro tip: crop out the shelf.

Coverage note. We are a "One Team" culture. The team is currently one guy covering three routes, because the other two are open reqs HR paused for the transformation. He does not give a sh-t about the service score. It is the only rational position anyone in the company has taken all week.

The org is basically Game of Thrones now, except nobody wins the chair, the chair got outsourced, and the survivors get a lanyard that says SMILE.

Someone told me "smiles" is the longest word in English because there's a mile between the first S and the last one. It's also the distance between the all-hands deck and the org chart

Office Closures

It's another head scratching exercise that only exacerbates employee angst. Forget layoffs for a few minutes, consolidating offices is an effective strategy to reduce staffing without filing. Uniondale NY was leased for 30 years, at its prime it held 5 floors and over 600 employees. When it was shuttered (8/30/26) there was one floor for approximately 100 people. That's a big reduction in itself. Now that it's shuttered approximately 50 people have 'retired' or found work close to home versus commuting into NYC. Another big staff reduction. In 6-12 months the models show another 20-50 of these people will tire of the commute and leave the firm. Several people who lived close to the Uniondale office chose to interview at competitors and accepted jobs in NYC with a 25% pay increase. BNY took zero action to retain them, zero action to offer compensation to those who stayed in order to bring salaries into the range of NYC pay versus LI, zero action to offer a small increase or bonus to help defray commuter costs. So the corporation is ice cold, as is the American trend. Before anyone attacks that understand that many of those people on LI felt like family to each other. There were weddings, births, funerals, celebrations, ad hoc picnics, golf, softball, bring your kids to work days...so many little things that bring people together and help forge bonds. Sure BNY will have "events" that state are to bring us together, but it's a cold environment in NYC, similar to a train where you sit next to someone who doesn't know what your job is, comes and goes the same way someone on a train sits next to you and leaves at their stop. Maybe pleasantries but no bonding. I can't tell you how many times I stop in for a cup of coffee as other people come and go but exchange nothing except hello. They're gone in a flash, just like a person on line at Starbucks. And house people keep? It's a ghost town after 4, too many people running for an early train in order to get home so they can actually enjoy a bit of life. So office closures do little to bring people closer, little for collaboration. Is it to save money? How much are the renovations in Greenwich going to cost? How much does it cost to sublease WTC during the renovation? Instead Uniondale could have had its lease extended so those jobs remained intact as well as offering Greenwich staff to work on LI during the renovation. How many of those people would have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to reverse commute to a suburban location - how many of the people already lived there? There's real world examples of this being a success during a period in mid 2000 teens. How do those of you in Pittsburgh feel to see that once proud Mellon name be essentially erased? How about Boston?? The corporate word is that we're cared for by the firm, that we have excellent facilities to work in, that we are one BNY, we're commercial, we're a leader in AI, we care about marginalized groups of people, we have book clubs, town halls (with canned softball questions). Every few days we get emails from new executives telling us how wonderful we are and how much better we will be after whatever the new project they were brought in for takes effect. It's tiring. As you can probably tell I'll be leaving in a few months as soon as something else is lined up. I don;t have all of the answers for what my gripes are but I do know current affairs don't have the answers either. May robin continue to smoke the wall street analysts and keep the stock price up. Oh yes, so he can continue to tout that we're all owners. Did (hose 5 shares make a big difference to anyone reading this? Check the annual reports to see the # of shares owned by the people telling you everything is going very well.

Isn't it ironic

Isn’t it ironic that a health insurance corporation fails to provide the best health insurance coverage for its employees?

Found this gem in one of the older threads and I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. This is 100% correct. We're supposed to have the best coverage considering where we work and we're so far away from it that it's a joke.

Why would they lie to you?

Do we need fairytales to hide the greed, fraud and cronyism?

Elizabeth Brinn started Family Hospital Physician Associates, not a massive corporation named Centene.

The Original Entity (1984): Elizabeth Brinn incorporated a small, single-city nonprofit Medicaid plan in Milwaukee called Family Hospital Physician Associates.

The Transition (1995–1996): After her passing, the nonprofit assets were sold to investors to fund her charitable foundation. The new owners hired Michael Neidorff as CEO to scale the business.

The Rebrand (1997): Instead of shutting down the old business and starting a new one, Neidorff took Brinn's original entity, relocated its headquarters to St. Louis, and legally changed its name to Centene Corporation

Assume Positive Intent

Does anyone else specifically in corp maybe in the marketing realm sick of this phrase? I’ve heard it more in the past couple of weeks than I have in the past year, but it’s not the first time I’ve heard it and basically to me It’s permission for someone to be an absolute a--hole towards you, gaslight you, treat you like garbage, tell you your content is sh-t and then turn around and be told to just assume that they meant that feedback positively, it is the epitome of gaslighting and it just seems so fitting with this company adopted the expression so much that a VP shared something as a mandate and I’m talking about Tracy who introduced it I think to the world lol

9/11 no acknowledgement

Oracle truly has become self consumed as shown by their blatant disrespect for what is such a humble day. Since when did gigawatts become more important?

Our exec leadership should be ashamed of themselves. Not one email, not one thought not even a linked in post.

If any news media reads this. This is the story to tell. This is the story that shapes how they see the humans that work for them. Greed over humanity, tokens before life

Rockefeller would have been proud

They (executives) truly believe you can run an oil refinery from the other side of the world using third rate talent.

Apparently the billions in profit were just not quite enough.

We no longer promote employees because they are hard working or knowledgeable in their fields. We only want compliant employees who will parrot whatever the latest acronym of the day.

Rockefeller would have been proud.

Well said, @az+1m29w550n

Lies told to the board never corrected

There are several examples of people telling the board lies to further their career and then dumping it on other people to either try make it work or take the fall when the truth comes out. Sadly there is zero accountability for those who told the lies. The organization is currently tieing itself into knots to try make some things work that were big time oversold.

Lots of finger pointing and blame happening on this board.

"We The People" are the su-kers!

Both the Democratic and Republican parties share responsibility for the structural issues within the U.S. health insurance system. They have shaped it through entirely different ideological approaches and legislative actions. Rather than a singular party being solely to blame, experts generally view the current system as a product of decades of bipartisan compromises, corporate lobbying, and conflicting political philosophies.

Health insurance is simi-legal fraud. From an economic perspective, critics argue that the private health insurance industry acts as a heavily bureaucratic middleman that adds cost without adding medical value. Health insurance is profit-driven. While health insurance companies operate legally under strict federal and state regulations, many of their standard business practices are deceptive and predatory to patients who pay premiums only to face denied claims or massive, unexpected bills. The underlying tension exists because private health insurance companies operate as profit-maximizing corporations, whereas consumers view healthcare as an essential, life-saving need.

Several systemic corporate mechanics shift financial risk and administrative burdens onto patients. This framework gives insurance companies a perverse incentive: to increase total profits, they must allow overall healthcare costs to rise, as a fixed percentage of a larger number yields a higher dollar return.
• The Illusion of Coverage (Deductibles & Out-of-Pocket Maxes)
• Claim Denials via Prior Authorization
• Narrow Networks
• The Complexity of "Explanation of Benefits" (EOB)

Change is Needed

I have not figured the how as of yet but we really, I mean really, need to figure out some way to convince CMS and our federal government that there is a much better way than to continue using these very large for-profit health insurance conglomerates (e.g., Humana, United, Elevance/Anthem, Cigna, Centene) that are just siphoning off tax payer’s money while providing very little incentive to increase the health of Medicare members but instead just make overly paid executives and shareholders wealthier.

We also need to convince CMS that those same corporations are doing very little to combat fraud, waste, and abuse.

I know that there are some extremely smart people on here that are also not happy with these same corporations as to the way are now doing things. Yes, there may have been a day when you were proud of the work they were doing. But those are days from memory and you will recall those are from half a decade or more since.

I believe the longer things drag out, the ship will not right itself; it will only get worse for the Medicare members and also worse for American citizen employees. Now, is the time to come up with an action plan and begin implementing.

Unfortunately, it would probably be too difficult for us to be able to network and meet up as a large group. So, each person will probably need to smartly come ip with ways to legally and peaceably chip away at these corporations from many different angles to bring them down and/or convince CMS and Federal Government that these large for-profit corporations (e.g., Humana, United, Elevance/Anthem, Cigna, Centene) are NOT the way to go.

Business as usual...Nothing to See Here

There is something almost comforting about mid-September at Honeywell.

Everything is business as usual. Forecasts. Customer calls. Q4 plans. Strategy decks. People talking about 2027 priorities as if every box on the org chart is permanent.

And anyone who has been around large companies long enough knows the rule: it is business as usual right up until the exact moment it isn’t.

One day you’re debating a KPI. The next day the KPI, the team, the reporting line and half the PowerPoint have changed.

That is what makes these periods so strange. Big organizational change rarely feels dramatic while it is approaching. Most of the time, Tuesday still feels exactly like Tuesday.

Until an email lands.

I have absolutely no inside information, which makes me about as qualified as everyone else to read the corporate tea leaves.

But this particular September has a very strong “enjoy the current org chart while supplies last” energy.

For the Honeywell veterans: what was the biggest “business as usual… until it wasn’t” moment you’ve seen here?

I suspect the comments on this one could be educational.

Here we go! Day one of ELT's move to get more of us to quit. Post your concerns, complaints, funny stories, frustrations, etc in this thread so we can keep the comment section active for our neighborhood ELT trolls who love to lurk here (they are useless anyway, so might as well give them something to do today). Good luck everyone, and enjoy the collaboration this week! 🤡

PS. r/st louis (edward jones) has a post from a few days ago that links this site if reddit is more your scene.

Guess who goes into the office 5 days a week, our colleagues in India! If you hate your job so much please quit. There are plenty of unemployed people who would love to drive to work this morning even in the rain.

@c2 Speak for yourself. No. Us HBA are not wondering. We are scared for them. Concerned. Sympathetic. Hoping they are all ok. But not wondering by any means… HBA = we don’t get the scoop. And we don’t need to feed their misery and make them feel worse.

@c3 what the he-l happened to people in the last 5 years? Having to go into the office after working at home does kind of su-k. But good grief! You aren’t going to war. I commuted to work for decades before wfh. Took trains, cars and, hold on to your hats, buses to get to the office in each city I lived in. Sometimes the weather was inclement. Sometimes there was traffic. Sometimes I had to watch out for pick pockets on crowded trains and buses. It’s called navigating the real world and you will get through it. It’s character building. Once you conquer driving to work, there will be no stopping you! You might even get up the nerve to go to the post office. Let the down votes rain down. Oh sorry! I didn’t mean to trigger you by mentioning rain 🤣

@cy Take my downvote and my response to your short sighted boomer mindset, you absolute walnut. The only thing missing was a story about walking to school in the snow...Do me a favor, turn your A/C off tonight and dont turn it back on. Your nasty hateful menopausal a-s will not last. You know why? Because AC was invented to help make life easier and once you take it away after having it, life su-ks. Once you see a better way of doing thing, you dont go back to the old ways if the new way works! That would be insane. Maybe you having some heat stroke will build some character, am I right?? The reason you had to take trains and long commutes was because you had to. There was no other way to work, we found a better way to work with remote work and the only people who hate it are micro managers and commercial real estate. HBA was benefit that offset the cr-p pay and cr-p health insurance. It being taken away is now a paycut for us with nothing to offset it with other than threats of layoffs. Then, you factor in everything else this nasty lying POS group called ELT has done and it is the final nail in the coffin. A great betrayal, and you think it's just about driving in the rain? This is how I know you are a d-mb person, you couldn't even take 5 seconds to look at the big picture. You mostly are ELT now that I think about it. Every study done on this RTO topic shows it as a failure, and ELT has decided to move forward anyway. Dummies

ELT you outed yourself by calling them colleagues. I hope you get the company fined with the lax protocols you all put in place.

I've worked late at night, I've worked weekends. I've gotten up at 5 am and answered questions from India. Yes, it's summer break and I took my kid to lunch and then worked longer at the end of the day. Or I took a break and volunteered in my kids classroom and worked later. I have loved this company and stayed loyal without good pay because of this family oriented approach. In the past Edward Jones has given me time with my child. Time I will never get back and I appreciate beyond words. In return I gave you my loyalty and hard work. My dedication to getting the job done no matter when or what time because I believed in the company. I referred family members to Jones because I was confident they would be served well.
You horrible ELT people getting $20 mill a year clearly don't value loyalty or knowledge. To say I am devastated is not enough. I want you fu--s to know I have enough money to retire right now. I came back to the office to make you fire me you stupid fu--s. I am literally doing this right now to pi-s you off because you people don't have a conscious or sense of loyalty. Bring it.

Honest question: Has anyone seen a positive outcome from a single ER initiative?

They touted faster speed, less layers/bureaucracy, more culture and collaboration, efficiency, etc., but I have not seen a single positive result. I'm trying to look at it objectively, but I just don't see it.

So, if there wasn't a single public/enterprise benefit, it's a private benefit (to them and their own goals/agenda).

@hb Every single thing they have touched has turned into a dumpster fire. Not one thing has improved for this company because of them, we are moving in the wrong direction. This RTO thing will be another giant fail when not enough people quit and they have to go back to classic layoffs. Our reputation around st.louis is tanking and the only thing we have going for us is an AI market bubble to hide all the damage.

@en Everyone in the office looks tired, checked out, and annoyed. Even high up leaders I see try very hard to put on the fake coporate act, but they also look like the pressure and stress is getting to them. Something is horribly wrong with this company and it's being kept a secret.

@hb You know what is funny? We rip ELT to shreds here (because they took away our surveys) and demand answers or even sometimes honestly ask them to defend their positions. I'd be willing to have a civil debate with them, but they can't even do that! Like a petty dictator, they want to shut down all the people who question things or use logic to debate them. All they have is either some boomer talking point like "we worked 5 days in office back in my day, you need to do it too! Or "Stop complaining, quit if you don't like it!". That is it, that's all they have! They hit the down vote arrow and scurry away like a little rodent. It's annoying and down right pathetic. So I say again, where are my ELT fans at? Tell us what great things you have done here that make you deserve the millions in your paycheck?

@nb nope. I'm not eating their slop for a photo op. Breakfast was still paid for us out of the bottom line, not like penny used her own bank account for those powdered eggs lol

@nb It wasn't a breakfast. It was 3/4 cup yogurt with several toppings and up to 4 mini quiches the size of a quarter. It was a poor attempt at bribery.

@ra and if given a choice between having a horrible commute and cr-p work environment VS Work From Home (back in their day) I bet a million dollars all these people would have taken the WFH option. That's what makes alll this RTO so damn stupid. It is counter intuitive to human nature. If you find a better way to live/work and increase happiness, why in the he-l would you go back to the old way that 99% of workers hate, and have the data to show that it isn't more productive to RTO. It is the opposite!

The whole goal of RTO is to make people so miserable that they quit. Less future layoffs if you just quit. I feel for everybody who did not get out. I also realize the job market is very tough for all of us. Praying for the strength that you all will need to keep doing your job.

@zf Amazing that ELT and pEnn3y really think they are on the right side of history with this "transformation". Everyone I've talked to the last few weeks about this place are horrified that our squeaky clean down home mid western value company is being destroyed from within by people who think it's funny to make single parent households lose sleep over their ret@rded @$$ backward sinister policies these last 18 months. Will someone from ELT (or one of the bootlickers) please show me the data where a company has had success by sh!tting all over the people that work there and gutting the entire culture that made the company unique? I'll wait...

Definitely burning some sick days this summer and doing bare minimum work while job hunting. This place is nothing more than a toxic shitho!e run by mo--ns and hateful nasty women

"One Cen-Team" Town Hall

Maybe I'm reading into this too much but one moment from this town hall has really stuck out to me. During the part where Sarah was doing a panel with Dan and Brad, she started asking for fun facts. At one point she asked "what's your favorite vacation spot"; I don't even remember what they answered, but asking highly paid executives about their favorite vacation a week after the VSP end date feels incredibly tone deaf.

"Cen-Teamers" were forced to make an incredibly difficult decision of powering forward or rolling the dice on finding other employment, and Sarah's asking about vacation spots. Even if it's just an ice-breaker question, still feels pretty thoughtless.

Ask Google the question "Why is T-Mobile's Stock Price Tanking"

  1. Rising Customer "Churn" From Price Hikes
T-Mobile has aggressively rolled out what it calls a "rate plan modernization," which forced millions of legacy customers onto newer, more expensive 5G plans.

    • The Backlash: This move triggered significant customer anger, FCC complaints, and a major public relations headache regarding broken "lifetime price guarantees".
    • The Stock Impact: On T-Mobile's July earnings call, CFO Peter Osvaldik explicitly warned investors to expect "temporary elevated account churn" (customers canceling service) in Q3. Wall Street immediately panicked about losing subscribers and sent the stock plunging 11% in a single day.
  2. Decelerating Growth & Intense Competition
For years, T-Mobile outpaced AT&T and Verizon by being the high-growth "Un-carrier." That growth is hitting a wall.

    • Missed Revenue Targets: Despite strong profits, quarterly revenue missed Wall Street estimates. For the first time in a while, management failed to raise guidance across the board.
    • The Cable Threat: Traditional cable operators (like Spectrum and Comcast) are aggressively poaching price-conscious users with ultra-cheap bundled mobile plans, narrowing T-Mobile's competitive edge.
  3. High-Level Executive Turnover
Just as the company faces these growth obstacles, a major shakeup in corporate leadership has injected fresh uncertainty.

    • CFO Stepping Down: Longtime CFO Peter Osvaldik announced he is stepping down.
    • New Leadership: Jessica Uhl (former Shell CFO) is taking over. While she is highly experienced, any sudden leadership change creates institutional anxiety regarding future stock buybacks and capital allocation strategies.
  4. Corporate Inside Selling
Adding to investor caution, SEC disclosures revealed heavy insider selling. T-Mobile executives have quietly offloaded over $700 million in shares over recent cycles without making meaningful open-market purchases, which signaled to big institutional investors that insiders felt the stock was fully valued.

Is the Drop an Overreaction?
Many retail investors and analysts argue the market drastically overreacted. T-Mobile still raised its full-year free cash flow guidance to $18.4B–$18.8B and boasts stronger 5G infrastructure than its peers. Essentially, the stock "tanked" because Wall Street is punishing T-Mobile for transitioning from a hyper-growth tech company into a slower, mature telecom company.

BADGE SCANNERS AT RESTROOM ENTRANCES!?!?

Former colleague that supports what's left of our Corporate Properties group has heard firsthand that badge readers are being installed at restroom entrances. The "company speak" is that its being done for employee safety, not monitoring your bathroom breaks ....remember when employees were getting bonked over the head in STL???? The purchase order to get the first 180 readers has been approved, and implementation will start in Charlotte and Minneapolis. you better hold it!!!! SO glad I'm out!

FL Settlement

https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/do-not-post-grand-jury-finds-10-million-hope-florida-funds-misappropriated-no-one-charged

A Florida grand jury found $10 million from a Centene settlement was misappropriated and ultimately used for political purposes.
The money moved through Hope Florida and nonprofits to political committees and the Republican Party of Florida.
The grand jury found insufficient evidence to charge anyone and recommended changes to state law.

Happy Labor Day to everyone who heroically survived the annual PIP Hunger Games

A special salute to the advisors, the advisors-to-advisors, the managers supervising advisors who advise other advisors, and the advisory committee dedicated to advising the advisors on how to advise.

Another year in this corporate obstacle course.
We crawled, we limped, we pretended to “align with strategy,” and somehow we’re still here.

Cheers, survivors.

Executives too afraid to hold an all hands meeting

We haven’t had an all hands meeting for years and years. Executives are too afraid to face us. Cowards. They know they can’t defend their actions and that they have zero support from the employees they “lead”. They truely are legends in their own minds. Pathetic.

RTO cost to families

I know no one cares, but this utter nonsense of hub consolidation, has costed my family $180K per year with my husband letting go of his job to follow me to hub, as he has similar colocation issues too from his company if he moves out of state. What’s up with these corporate id--ts? Why aren’t they fired for poor performance? We need to write to Trump.
