Market Location Strategy paused?

Someone posted last week that there was a pause in Market Location Strategy displacements in Risk (see post titled "Risk Location Strategy"). I've heard something for a different group that was supposed to get their relocation decision letters in November (in advance of being displaced in the coming months), but that was "paused". Does anyone know if there is a larger change to the policy going on?

Buyout, not riff

Buyout. No unemployment claims. No discrimination lawsuits. Improved morale for those who choose to stay.
But then, this is Verizon so…
Layoff. Unemployment claims across the board. Class action discrimination suits for each protected class (age, race, s-x). Fear and unrest for the employees not laid off.

How much do you work as a lame duck employee (post-RIF)?

Say you get RIF'd on 11/20 and have to work until end of Dec. How productive are you expected to be during those final 3-4 weeks?

If you had projects you were planning to finish before end of year, do you still complete those? How much effort do you put into offloading your work to another employee? Are you still expected to follow the 3/2 hybrid?

Or are you basically just doing minimal work during this time, and not coming into office?

What have you seen from lame duck employees in prior RIFs?

RIF's

All managers of sites concerned have been told to make a list. Voluntary RIF Notifications to go around the end of November to early December with terminations taking place by mid to end of January. like before people will be given the option to voluntarily apply. The candidates will be chosen by the end of December and people will be notified the beginning of January

CEO Transparency is important- not just for moral but a show good leadership-

Why is this new CEO- opting to be so cryptic? He has a company with highly talented employees wearing a dozen hats each. They all deserve at this point, to know what the new game plan is-
Every Verizon employee has been digging in, trying their best to keep things afloat, especially the last several years-

After every layoff- VSP/ISP talent has been lost and the work load consolidated. Yet even with all the internal struggles - we keep at it.

If Dan truly wants Verizon to succeed- he needs to be candid and up front with his employees. We can handle the hard truths- we can deal with change and limitations- but the C-suite silence is destroying the company from the top down.
Dan- be different-be frank- tell the people at Verizon what is happening and do it sooner than the Nov. 20 mark- the internal barometer is tipping negatively and once it goes too far we are looking at Sprint 2.0-
You are losing trust, confidence, and support from your workforce. We all know what is coming, but the way you are decidedly unveiling it- especially in these economic times, with all the political theatrics happening in DC, only exacerbates and compounds the situation- any other year might be fine- but this is not the current weather for it.

Come clean and do it quick- or everyone here will soon agree you’re no better than Hans……

Thank you, Wells Fargo

I was laid off waited for the severance PTO bonus all that jazz and I couldn’t be happier. I am officially retired. I can now enjoy my life without all the Wells Fargo drama between Social Security 401(k) and other investments. I’m making more than I did at Wells Fargo I’ve been in many engineering jobs And Wells Fargo is nothing but a joke. I am really glad to be gone.

Laid off

I was laid off last week it was so surreal I'm a hard worker, always come in on time, meet company goals, never written up. I get good reviews and exceeds expectations.
But they do this to me? Are they not basing this off job performance?
I'm fighting their notion that I'm always late. I asked late to what! They said they couldn't give me details and sign here is you want the package. Well I signed but I will also be filing for unemployment and giving them a copy of the recording of my lay off! I bet their lies fall apart when I show them my Google Timeline! Also emails and teams messengers screen saved where I constantly responded before 8am. I'm done with these fools!

OK you have just been RA'd in IBM sales - Meet your replacement

EMC was infamous for this in the 80s and 90s. SMH.

Life lessons from someone who was laid off from another oil and gas company years ago—and learned it’s not the end of life.

Life lessons from someone who was laid off from another oil and gas company years ago—and learned it’s not the end of life, but the start of a new chapter.

  1. Identity tied to work

Often we invest so much time and energy into a job that we end up confusing what we do with who we are. If the company lets us go, it feels like they’re rejecting our identity, not just our role.

  1. External recognition

Work is often a source of validation: bosses, colleagues, achievements, promotions. When that disappears, it creates a void that can make us doubt our own value.

  1. Security and belonging

A job also represents economic stability and a place in a community (team, corporate culture). Being fired can feel like losing a “family” or security, which hits beyond just the professional level.

  1. Social narrative

Society often measures success through work. This makes us unconsciously internalize the idea that being fired equals “failure,” even though in reality it’s just a change in circumstances.

  1. Emotional factor

Even though rationally we know human value doesn’t depend on an employer, emotionally it’s hard to separate self-esteem from this experience, especially in vulnerable moments.

The key is to rebuild your narrative: being fired is not a judgment on your value—it’s just the end of a cycle in a place that no longer fits you. Your experience, character, talents, and ability to learn remain intact.

Practical Strategies to Reconnect with Your Value After Being Fired

🔹 1. Redefine the narrative

Instead of thinking “I was fired”, reframe it as:

• “That place was no longer right for me.”

• “A door closed, but it opens others that may fit me better.”

The words we use shape how we feel.

🔹 2. Separate “role” from “identity”

Make a list of who you are outside of work: parent, friend, creative, good listener, curious, resilient.

This helps remind you that your essence doesn’t depend on a contract.

🔹 3. Take stock of personal and professional achievements

Write down your accomplishments, not just at work, but also personal ones (e.g., learned a language, supported a friend, overcame a challenge).

Whenever you feel your value is in question, review this list.

🔹 4. Seek internal, not external validation

A company validates results; you can validate your effort, learning, and integrity.

Ask yourself: Am I proud of how I worked? Of how I grew?

🔹 5. Build a support network

Talk to people who value you for who you are (family, friends, mentors). This reinforces the idea that you are not “your job.”

🔹 6. Practice healthy detachment

A useful exercise: imagine your CV and current job disappear. What’s left? What remains—your character, creativity, values—is who you truly are.

🔹 7. Refocus on the future

Set small goals: a course, a personal project, learning something new. This restores a sense of progress and control.

I sure dont miss the constant warrooms after being played off from here..

For many years getting paged out to P1/P2 even P3 warrooms outside of work hours in the evenings, overnights, at movies, at dinner, getting groceries, at the gym, anywhere you go your phone would constantly go off. Not to mention the contanst group chats for work to respond to. All for no extra pay, layed off 1 year ago and no make way more money, work only 40 hours a week M-F. Get out while you can, they don't care about customers, definitely not employees, only the bottom line and the good ol boys at the top. Find a private company to work for.

Take severance or apply for different positions

I was informed last week that my job was impacted by the layoffs and offered a severance package. Another job came up in the company I could apply for. It is a step down but I’d keep my benefits. Not sure if I should take the severance and run or try for the position…. Any feedback?

What Bob's building?

Inherited environment, culture of stress, anxiety, uncertainty from Roger, added his own flavor of further uncertainty among associates.

When BME was announced, Rich was dead clear in sharing "everyone's going to be part of this model"

Since he didn't see eye to eye with Bob, he's on his way out the door now.

With the retiring of "squads, scrum masters, chapters", we will definitely see some BS made up titles with same responsibilities.

Why does Fido want to ruin the holiday season for all?

NYS warn act

Pretty sure BNY is violating that one. 25 people or more from a location requires them to notify 30 days in advance of layoffs or they get fined. I know of atleast 15 just yesterday and there were more releases monday and Tuesday as well. All out of oriskany alone and no notification on the nys site. 🤔
