Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How much do you work as a lame duck employee (post-RIF)?

Say you get RIF'd on 11/20 and have to work until end of Dec. How productive are you expected to be during those final 3-4 weeks?

If you had projects you were planning to finish before end of year, do you still complete those? How much effort do you put into offloading your work to another employee? Are you still expected to follow the 3/2 hybrid?

Or are you basically just doing minimal work during this time, and not coming into office?

What have you seen from lame duck employees in prior RIFs?

It all depends on your organization and your position. Some will be required to work and/or document and transition their work, others will not be required to do so and can focus 100% on finding a new job. Just do what is asked of you until your termination date so that you do not jeopardize your severance.

Big reminder, even when Rif’d, you are a Verizon employee until your last day and are expected to comply with the Code of Conduct. Some people start misbehaving and/or violating the Code, and they end up getting fired - with no severance package.

If you are RIF'd in NJ, is it 90 days? (vs. 30)

Heads up, once you are RIF'd, you can not send emails to outside of the email without them going through some sort of AI check, and emails to domains like gmail are completely blocked.

We will be telling impacted employees we are not expecting them to work during that time

Why should you work hard if you have been RIF’d ?? The company doesn’t care about you so why work hard…. I’m doing minimal work until I know I’m safe

From my understanding all access will be terminated when the people are notified. Our group is not going to have them continue to work but others may require some level of turnover.

I would work because I don't want to leave behind a mess for my team. That being said, we had someone get rif'd in the past and our supervisor had them immediately transition their work and gave them the next 60 days to spend time doing classes and resumes. They were not given anything else to do for Verizon.

When i was Rif’d I worked till the last day… sent my Company phone/PC back last day so I coukd ensure I was connected to severance and company payroll.

The difference I was getting sales commissions so I wanted my money!

Additionally I ran a Team and didn’t want any of my direct reports left hanging si I could help them.
