We are all engineers here… do the math. 13+% NI is required, and when <5 years with Company, NI = MLRP. With two strikes and you’re out policy, no one will stay past 1 PIP cycle. Therefore, 0.87^5th = your chances of making it to the 5 year mark as a new hire (49.84%). Get ready for years of continued downsizing and churn. IExtrapolate further and near 0% will make it to retirement. But don’t worry, they value you and there is no better time for a career at ExxonMobil (at least that’s what they say).

Hi Folks, today Capgemini engineers have been added to NOC T1/T2 chat also most of the engineers and leadership are under Charter VP now , 3 Sustaining engineers have been added under NOC T3 leadership. For most of the engineers Charter stopped Perm processing in NoC T2 and in ST as well.

September 17 layoffs
Anybody know the broader impact? I was cut from Product Learning & Development, heard there's more from that team + engineering as a whole.
Good thing we put all that work into AI so it could "replace" us eh?
9/24 N&T marker level network engineering
Any updates if market level network engineering (RF, SP, network real estate, construction, transport) will have cuts? Rumors or combing more makets? Any cuts to SDs or above?
Reservoir engineer job?
Hi all,
I am looking for reservoir engineer job and saw many job posts by Exxon at the same time i am seeing too many people leaving the company. I am not sure what is going on. Is the unconventional teams are doing good and keep hiring or like all departments in the company. Thank you.
USC Engineering Unit Cuts Staff
The University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering is implementing a restructuring plan. This reorganization is a direct result of necessary budget reductions. Consequently, sixty-five employees will be laid off. These job cuts are scheduled to occur between November 4 and December 3. The university aims to align its resources with future strategic priorities.

Limited T&E but RCS wasting it all
We all got the email regarding the budget and frozen travel requests. How is it fair for the product teams to dial into meetings while a bunch of clueless salespeople in RCS go to meetings in person just to take notes?
I have been in five meetings recently where the salesperson was at the client site but didn't say more than “hi” and “bye”.
It’s probably better to cut RCS budget & HC than product and engineering. There are simply many of them in sales.
Waver on locomotive inspections.
On September 1, 2026, the Federal Railroad Administration published Union Pacific’s petition for a waiver from part of the locomotive periodic-inspection rules. UP wants to eliminate the requirement that one of the recurring inspections on qualifying microprocessor-equipped locomotives be performed specifically by a Qualified Mechanical Inspector (QMI). UP says its data found no statistical difference between inspections performed by QMIs and non-QMIs and specifically cites cross-training employees across multiple mechanical systems as part of its justification. So In the words of the company " we dont need machinists or electricians anymore the engineer or conductor can do it. " or maybe whatever is left of mechanical.
Kroger employee here, I come in peace
To be honest, I don’t give a flying fu-k about picking a corpo side. But for those of you who were around under Greg Foran’s leadership, I’m genuinely curious about your take.
He recently brought over former Walmart execs Nate Faust and Mark Ibbotson. Are these guys just corporate bootlickers, or are they actual leaders who know what they're doing? How did they shape the culture, what was it really like working under them, and what kind of bullsh-t or improvements should we expect?
It seems they are already outsourcing our engineering jobs within the next couple of years but I suspect that was in the works before Greg came along. Moral is at all time low and culture is becoming non-existent.
Perspective Coming from a “forced” Retired Data & Process Engineer
I think C-Suite Executives consider replacing engineers with AI as being the equivalent of replacing humana cashiers with automated checkouts.
Well, all of you engineers know that the good ones know how to not just how to handle the “normal” mold fit scenarios but also how to handle scenarios that do not fit the mold and find innovative ways to come up with solutions that most others, including AI, would.
From what I have seen, AI even struggles handling the most basic tasks and processes without an abundance of handling by their human creators. So, as to the non-conforming mold fit processes, forget about it!
Why am I posting this? Because I am so sick of all the AI hype being shouted on the roof tops. Please, can we now start having real honest conversations as to the very limited scenarios for which AI maybe can be used?
Geos & Engineers and Upstreamers & Downstreamers
Alright, so want to really understand what salary curve differences exist between these groups.
How high Geos are vs. Engineers in the Upstream? Looking for CL examples.
What about Upstreamers vs. Downstreamers? How high is Upstream? Again give CL level examples.
Trolls, just listen or add your valuable commentary to the other posts.
Latest update
Why I have been hearing is a bit concerning. May be everyone already knows this. But they want to move the entire engineering teams to Offshire. Fully functioning teams. There will be an onshore counterpart for every team.
Company laid off the engineers and now forcing techs doing the zero pen.
Company laid off a bunch of engineers , and now is forcing techs to do the zero pen jobs that fell to them. The union is so stupid , they didn’t even argue for a differential pay for its members. Company is saving millions making techs do the engineering work now. What does the union do besides sc--w over its members at every turn lol
ISG Engineering's Agile Development Process
Step 1: Someone in Sales says, “The customer needs this.”
Step 2: Engineering says, “That's not on the roadmap.”
Step 3: Salea says, “$2 Million dollars is riding on this feature.”
Step 4: Exec Management says, "Drop what you're doing and make it happen."
Step 5: Engineering creates a Jira ticket.
Step 6: Ticket remains untouched for 12 months.
Step 7: Customer escalates.
Step 8: Ticket becomes P0 Critical.
Step 9: Two engineers work on it for 3 days.
Step 10: Product is released.
Step 11: Everyone celebrates the “successful product launch.”
Step 12: Customer finds 14 new bugs and feature is 1/3rd complete.
Step 13: Repeat Steps 9 - 12.
Agile.
Rally scaled agile STS
This is getting awful now. More red tape in an AI age
Who is tired of how bad this rollout has gone? Product owners have no clue as well as STS leaders. The engineers suffer
Together with this plus GCC and stuck in PCF nothing can stop the death of the engg culture
Fun times coming to Engineering / Project Management
The local folks are about to start Engineering projects, managing them and handling the billing when all is said and done. If you thought you were backlogged before, get ready! Just heard about it in Denver.
Architecture Theater
Every failed system in this organization has at least two architects attached to it.
Somehow, the more architects we add, the more legacy we create, the more bureaucracy we invent, and the slower engineering moves.
At this point, "Architect" feels less like a role and more like a witness to the crime.
AI vs BTC
Old colleagues who have left have told me they're developing AI agents at their new company that can assess inspection reports and output recommendations that are spot on in minutes. A small team of engineers doing the work that took our BTC months, without all the errors.
Anyone else hearing similar things?
How Entitled Corporate Karens Helped Ruin Nike
Let’s be clear: this is not a criticism of women broadly and certainly not of the many women of color at Nike who consistently kick a-s, deliver exceptional work, challenge broken systems, and make the company better.
This is about a specific corporate archetype: privileged, entitled "leaders" who we-ponize victimhood whenever their competence or conduct is questioned. They demand accountability from everyone beneath them while treating accountability for themselves as persecution.
They turned personal insecurity into “leadership,” favoritism into “talent strategy,” and organizational politics into a substitute for results. They promoted one another, protected mediocrity, punished candid dissent, and surrounded themselves with people unlikely to challenge them. Competence became threatening. PowerPoint replaced product.
Meanwhile, the people who genuinely understood athletes, footwear, design, engineering, and innovation were sidelined while professional meeting-attenders accumulated titles and congratulated themselves for “transforming” the company.
Now, after helping dismantle a culture built by generations of talented people, they will undoubtedly insist that none of it was their fault.
That may be their most enduring Nike innovation: failing upward while presenting themselves as the victims.
A lot of layoffs will happen in hospitality
I’ve heard from M4 they plan to layoff a dozen engineers, 2-3 project managers, 1-2 managers, sales and QA. This in addition to reducing other types of resources already announced. IDC, EU and NA
Quality Leadership?
It seems as though we have lost our way to deliver high customer satisfaction. The forward models are uninspired. Quality leaders seem seem to be happy with status quo. There needs to be a change in the Quality leadership so we can start engineering vehicles customers want and deliver high satisfaction. Is it time for a new Quality Czar?
Can anyone see if R-1097892 is an Engr I, 2, Senior, etc.?
External now, but got a job alert about this opening.
CL of Principal Engineers
What CL are principal engineers? Are they the highest spot on technical side other than chief? What CL is chief? Do principals and chiefs rank well?
GRE to engineering?
Does anyone know why this email came out yesterday moving GRE to the engineering group?
AEST-Manufacturing Engineering Headcount Reduction
We’ve heard rumors of domestic onsite engineering headcount reductions in favor of offshoring work to the KLTC and BTC. Finally heard a real number; a 40% to 50% reduction in onsite engineering at the manufacturing sites by ~2030. Already importing folks from KL and BTC to fill key business team rolls onsite. Soon XOM will be run from Malaysia and India. Prepare your resumes.
Stock grants for Principal Engineers
Does principal engineers get stock grants at PNC? My recruiter said i will be getting but nothing mentioned on offer letter. Confused if i should join PNC.
Question for ISG Engineering?
What have you guys released in the past year? Not trolling, just wanted to get the list of new major releases.
No need to respond if only maintenance releases or new hardware configurations. Looking for new major releases.
Mediocre Engineers
Everything with these guys are "we are working on it", "that's under review" or "that's on X's plate".
H and his big mouth need to be stopped to keep from dragging down everybody else. His constant sabotage to make himself looks good is really hurting the bottom line.
Visa cuts vice presidents, senior directors and AI engineers in major overhaul
A technology firm has announced significant job cuts impacting its employees. This decision comes as part of a broader strategic realignment within the organization. The company aims to streamline operations and adapt to evolving market conditions. Affected employees will receive support during this transition period. Further details regarding the scope of the layoffs are expected.

ISG deserves to be laid off
It hurts to say it, especially since I service ISG, but ISG deserves to be shut down.
Engineering can never release anything competitive on time, product management doesn't know what a roadmap is, and neither understands enough about the market to know that we are literally 7-10 years behind the competition in virtually every category.
We had this coming a long time ago.

Qualcomm GPU team legacy hirings
Looks like the Qualcomm GPU team operates on family ties. While most people need a relevant Master's degree to get hired, I just get to know that some junior engineers with an unrelated Bachelor's was brought on a few years ago—and legacy hiring like that makes it feel like a family business
Why isn't anybody trying to stop the brain drain?
I've watched some of our best engineers leave for rivals. Nobody's even counteroffering. It's like they don't care.
Innovation Theater
Innovation doesn’t die because people run out of ideas.
It dies when meetings replace making.
When every experiment needs five approvals.
When PowerPoint or Keynote become more valuable than prototypes.
When politics outrank curiosity.
When protecting careers matters more than questioning assumptions.
When “alignment” becomes code for “don’t rock the boat.”
The irony is that the companies famous for disrupting industries often become experts at preserving the status quo.
You can hire the world’s best designers, engineers, and creatives, but if they’re rewarded for managing risk instead of creating value, don’t be surprised when innovation turns into theater.
Real innovation is messy. It creates tension. It challenges leaders. It makes some people uncomfortable.
If everyone in the room agrees, you’re probably not innovating—you’re just documenting consensus.
The biggest threat to innovation isn’t a lack of talent.
It’s bureaucracy wearing an innovation badge.
