Demoted Employees: Emails To Document Your Employment Rights When Demoted

Below is an email script to use to document important information to protect your rights.

If the company responds to any of these questions with “Please see the FAQs,” acknowledge that you are aware of the FAQs and would like a direct response to your situation in this email.

Thank you for your recent communication regarding the proposed change to my position. Before I make any decisions, I’d appreciate some clarification so I can fully understand the situation.

Could you please provide:

1. Whether positions with my current title will continue to exist at the company, or if the role is being eliminated entirely.
2. More detail on the factors used to determine my selection for demotion.
3. How declining the demotion would affect eligibility for severance benefits.
4. Any policies or documents that outline how the company is approaching these changes for employees in similar roles.

I’ve valued my time with the company and want to make an informed decision. Having this information will help me better understand my options.

Please respond promptly as I am working to meet your deadline of 9/1 and require this information to make an informed decision.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Non-working notice period

I recently got laid off, and I'm in my non-working notice period. The separation paperwork says that taking another job during the notice period could affect eligibility for severance pay. Does anyone know how that works? I know I have to be available if they need something from me during the notice period, but that seems unlikely. And how would they even know I had started a new job?

Staying open longer than usual

has anyone ever had to extend their hours of operation as you were working a standard 7/8hr shift? got a phone call mid day and literally had to accept the fact I am stuck inside my store for the next 5 hours rather than the initial 2. Doesn't make any sense especially since there aren't too many students and it's always dead past a certain point, literally just rotting away. I do feel very disrespected considering how out of the blue it was and am mentally clocking out of this company as the days pass lol

What areas?

Curious as to what broad areas are sting most layoffs. Like are there areas that aren’t getting hit at all or areas that are basically being gutted? (I don’t work there, but have many friends who do)

Hail Mary?

“What really matters is that companies that don’t continue to experiment – companies that don’t embrace failure – they eventually get into a desperate position, where the only thing they can do is make a ‘Hail Mary’ bet at the very end of their corporate existence. I don’t believe in bet-the-company bets.”

Seems like Infinity is the Hail Mary. They of course decided to end of life their entire current revenue stream in 5 years to hopefully “force” customers to move to Infinity. I guess MBAs will study this decision in the future. I wonder what they will learn?

I know Nike is a footwear first company…

But when are they going to start making better apparel?!

So much space in Lulu/Vuori/Fabletics zone but Nike continues to make awful fitting and feeling clothes.

Earth to design team, how about some fitted clothing, better materials, etc. 25.7 was a nice attempt but not everyone wants baggy.

The market is there and consumer has proven time and time again they will pay for it. Not everyone is an oversized couch potato. Can’t even get a golf polo that isn’t “standard” fit aka baggy fit AND can only be tucked in without looking ridiculous. Every weekend I watch golf and poor Scottie looks like a sale rack at Kohls. How about shorts? Running shorts are great, golf shorts? Baggy and long. Joggers? Only in sweats. Golf joggers are a joke. Who are the models shaping these designs/sizing? Want opportunity, look at apparel.

Oh yeah, global tech bad blah blah layoffs blah blah MD devil blah blah

Does Oracle pay for your unused vacations

Oracle has unlimited vacation policy on manager discretion. But I noticed managers ensure employee doesn’t take vacations often beyond 2-3 weeks per year. So what happens to those unused vacations on your layoff? Is it wise to take vacations before expected announcements?

Are firings up?

Like many or most of us, my group continues to see layoffs. But I have seen no one be fired even though I think they could easily make a case for some of them.

Is this the norm in your group as well?
