Layoff/Agr Discrimination

“Laid” off as part of a small wave of layoffs has n 2025.
Usual pattern:
layoff 20 +/- employees to avoid WARN notice requirements.
80% of employees “laid off” are over 40
Require employees to sign Separation and Release agreement to receive pay for accrued vacation and a not so generous severance of 2 weeks thus avoiding EEOC reporting.
Wait for review period of separation and release to expire.
Advertise same position and hire a younger employee to fill position.
Rinse and repeat.

Reshuffling National Sales in WIM

I heard they cut some of the fat cats at the top of the hierarchy. They are making them reapply for their positions while also providing severance pay? I haven't noticed any of those positions listed either internally or externally. From what I hear, they covet fresh ideas and are looking for external applicants for those positions.

Did they just decide they can manage without the higher salaries at the top? I worked near one of them, and they always seemed to be doing nothing at all, they are from the Maryland area. They complained half the time about their direct report and the other half just looked busy and left early often. I know WIM sales is very heavy with people making too much. Is this a sign of the future? Cut from the top and move down instead of the usual cut from the bottom and gradually move up?

Delay signing severance agreement until 2026 to reduce taxes?

So my off payroll date is December 19, but reading the severance agreement and FAQ it looks like I have 45 days to sign the agreement, which means I could sign it in January 2026. So on a cash basis I would think this means the severance payment would be for my 2026 tax year and keep me in a lower tax bracket.

Has anyone else considered this approach? Would any benefit or payments be given up by delaying like this or is the only real drawback just a delay in receiving the severance payment?

Sooo, here is a question...

So, now that the limitations have been lifted, now that we've started minting money, would it be possible for the execs to stop playing games with us and just pay severance pay for the roles they no longer need? They may as well stop to overwork us, make us work insane hours, play games and give us fake write ups just to make us quit. Sooo.... Pay severance and let's part ways.

A friend of mine said "no thanks" to severance package....

Yep. And it was a significant one too. Like almost a year's worth. Why? Because the Atty's reviewing the documents and the facts of the severance.....said nope! Way more $$ by fighting it out. Turns out, there is a line of business which has been doing "funny business" as it were. And soon, the truth will be coming out.
For my friend's sake, I sure do hope so. That was a brave act, IMHO.

Severance

After years of top performance and multiple company awards, being labeled a ‘low performer’ during a severance call was surprising and discouraging. The lack of appreciation, combined with sudden goal increases and new write-up policies tied to severance eligibility, made the process feel more like pressure than professionalism.

From now until March time frame will be really bad is what I’m guessing.

AI promises were made that it’d save TONS of $ and it has not. Now is the time to pay the piper and there are shareholder expectations to be met. They are expecting lots of cheddar on the promises made. So, you have to recoup that money from somewhere.
Lay people off + a reduction in force by way of attrition. Turn up the heat, pile on the work and watch people leave which is a big win so that you don’t have to pay out severance.

The best part that is that Jane still gets her extra 20+ million $ bonus….again. As far as Citi upper echelon is concerned, all is right with the world.

silent layoffs.

they are silently reducing people and giving out severance packages already. More to come. Before you ask me how I know. Go to your outlook and lookup “usrifsupport@thomsonreuters.com”. Then ask me again how I know and why I would be d-mb enough to tell you all. Not fear mongering but all I’m saying is just apply and keep your resume updated just in case because this isn’t TR specific and all organizations are downsizing due to AI.

For anyone who was recently let go, and also eligible for retirement

  1. Were you given the opportunity to retire, and collect your SERMA if you had one.
  2. If you did the retirement route, did you also collect whatever weeks of severance that were being offered at the time.

I'm ready to retire after 30 years. I'd hate to wait for whatever package may be offered only to find out I'd be sc--wed out of my SERMA. I'd rather not pose this question to HR.
Thanks.

Severance after RIF

I work in NJ. I have been Riffed . On salary (and working) until 2/16/2026 plus severance for a lot of weeks. IF I take a job BEFORE 2/16/2025, will I lose MY severance? Someone told me that I will . I have NOT confirmed with HR, yet. Anyone know and is in the same boat? Kind of makes me want to hold off looking for a NEW job!!!!!!!!!!! SO UNfair if true!

Severance is designed to silence you.....

Beware! The language in the severance plan is designed to silence you and whatever you have suffered under the WF new "management" style. Its all designed to cover up what they are doing and how they are doing it. Getting rid of long-term, loyal employees and then hiring outside the USA or worse.
Current management in this case is complicit in the overall scheme. They know who is buttering their bread, and frankly, its not the folks who've made the bank successful. Nope. Its the new team, those who came like locusts from other banks.....and who are now reaping bonuses for replicating where they came from. Yes! You guessed it, WF is not getting to be "leaps ahead", no they are just catching up. To jump ahead of the banking group, you'd have to have original, out of the box thinking. And ability to tolerate risk. All of which....the current leadership lacks. And given the brain drain, well then. I think we can all agree.....there is little upside from here.

Laid off - help

My position was eliminated and I received the severance summary form. Am I understanding correctly that the severance offer "package" arrives on my last day and has to be signed by 5pm?

If so, how are we supposed to have time for an attorney to look it over? I feel stupid asking these questions, I've just never been laid off before.

Thanks in advance.

Corporate Layoff Frenzy

The pandemic lead companies to hire more employees to take advantage of Federal subsidies to keep employees working to prevent an economic crisis. When the pandemic employment subsidies ended the corporate wealth-fare stopped, companies started shedding employees hired and promoted to pad employment numbers and salaries to get more federal funding wealth-fare. That is why companies offered severances or laid off newly promoted non exempt supervisors and new hires or under performers because the profitable federal employment subsidies dried up.

Severance Calculation Sheet Incorrect

Yes, I too have been hit by the recent RIF after 30+ years. Several of my upper management also got hit. Unfortunately, I believe the severance calculation sheet is incorrect. Don't sign until you know for sure. It is much less than what I was told and the numbers actually don't match salary and the cap of 35 weeks. I've scheduled an appointment with HR, but so far, they haven't accepted. Anyone else seeing this?

Employment Lawyer?

Has anyone else who has been laid off in NJ contacted an employment lawyer?

The notification itself suggests to do so, but I don't know ehere to begin. I have no illusions about retaining my job, but want t9 be clear on certain things. For instance, it sounds as if yo get another job during the WARN period (internally or externally) you might forfeit severance.

Dreaming about severance

After 18 years here, all I can think about is being laid off. That's it. Just praying to be let out of this prison with a safety net. There aren't many available jobs, but I'm confident I'd be able to find something within a few months. I just don't want to do them a favor of leaving without them paying me to do so.

2025 STI shows at $0 on severance calculation and agreement?

Not sure if it’s just me, but my severance calculation and agreement show 2025 STI as $0. Does that mean I would not get STI in Q1? Or is it that 2025 STI isn’t part of the “severance” and is instead just paid out in the normal course of my compensation? I have received STI every year since I started at Verizon
