Louisiana Initial Claims Drop

Louisiana's initial unemployment claims declined for the week. Claims totaled 1,394 for the period ending May 16. This figure is down from 1,490 the previous week. Continued unemployment claims also decreased to 5,987. However, the four-week moving average rose slightly to 1,398.

Deeply difficult and heartbreaking times

It’s been almost a year since I was laid off from Sharp, and I still haven’t been able to find a job. I’ve submitted 92 applications, tailoring each resume to match the job description and improve my chances with ATS systems, but I’ve only landed six interviews. At this point, I can’t even secure a help desk or customer support role, despite being willing to take a 50% pay cut.

Even contract positions are difficult to get because so many people are out of work and competing just to survive. More of my family and friends are experiencing layoffs as well, especially in the healthcare sector, where some hospitals are now financially vulnerable and at risk of closure.

My unemployment benefits have ended, while the cost of gas and food continues to rise across the U.S., adding even more pressure on families already struggling to get by. These are deeply difficult and heartbreaking times.

FREEEEDOMMM!!!!

The return box for my laptop came Thurs. I packed it up and brought it to Fedex yesterday. They scanned it, I got a receipt and that was that. Retired. By the time I got back in my car, 6 months of pay had been dropped into my checking account. No doubt automatically triggered by the scan of the return box. Considering I was going to retire end of May, I could not have imagined a better, realistic, finale to my career. I'll be getting max unemployment payments as well. If layoffs are rumored and you want out, set your attitude knob to sh!tty, let your mgr know you're not really interested in doing anything new and then hope for the best. I'll take 6 months pay, plus a year of max UI benefits over a good luck card at a retirement lunch any day. I woke up today thinking "Oh good, it's Saturday", then quickly realized EVERY day is Sat now....the Endless Summer has just begun. Good luck to all and remember:
Manage Oracle! Do not let Oracle manage you.

Don't just sign up for the irif, do your research

Don't just sign up for the volunteer irif, speak to a laywer first. There are plenty of lawyers that offer free advice, even online.

If you sign up for something like this, you could miss out on benefits you would normally receive if you were irif'd involuntarily, including unemployment.

Xerox, or any business, is never looking out for you. Assume this smells just like anything else they do.

PIP/unemployment benefits question

If an IBM employee is put on a PIP - say for example - Seller not making their quota (assuming nothing else was a problem), and the employee is terminated as a result of the PIP, will IBM fight unemployment pay? I have received conflicting information. One person was adamant that the only ways to not be able to claim unemployment are 1) the employee quit on their own 2) insubordination.

North Carolina Sees Drop in Weekly Jobless Claims

North Carolina saw a decline in initial unemployment benefit filings last week. The U.S. Department of Labor reported this data on Thursday. New jobless claims in the state fell to 3,224. This figure is down from 3,930 the previous week. Nationally, U.S. unemployment claims also decreased to 209,000.

Unemployment claims blocked due to missing Paramount wage reports

The New York State Department of Labor has confirmed that no wages were reported for my Paramount employment for any quarter in 2025 to any state unemployment system.

Employers are generally required to report wages quarterly for unemployment insurance purposes, which is how states determine benefit eligibility and jurisdiction.

Because I worked remotely, I initially filed in my state of residence and was then instructed to file in New York. New York redirected me back to my state, since unemployment jurisdiction depends on where unemployment insurance contributions are paid.

As of January 9, nearly two months after separation, there is still no wage record in any state, which means no unemployment benefits can be paid. I also did not accept any severance.

I’m trying to understand whether this is an isolated payroll reporting issue or something affecting multiple people.

If you were laid off or separated recently, do you see Paramount wages for 2025 in your state’s unemployment system? If so, how long did it take or who did you contact?

Microsoft figured out how they can legally to deny Unemployment benefits claims

Microsoft HR informed managers to issue 30% more Performance Improvement Plans during the months of January and February. HR devised the Performance Improvement Plans to make sure they are nearly impossible to pass. The Performance Improvement Plans issued to employees have a three week duration. With the majority of Microsoft employees expected to fail their Performance Improvement Plans HR expects employees will be released from Microsoft no later than March 15th. HR will identify these employees as fired and will deny all unemployment benefits claims filed with Washington State.

December Surplus

I will hopefully be surplussed on December 15th and thus will be leaving the company with 104 weeks pay. Afterwards I'll collect unemployment for as long as I can. Then I'll start taking my legacy pension, my 401k distributions and my social security. Meanwhile I will continue doing the least amount of work i can get away with without getting fired all while lmfao.

Declining Severance??????

What happens if I decline severance?

Maybe I want to keep legal rights. severance may require waiving claims.

Maybe terms are too restrictive. noncompete or gag rules feel unfair.

Maybe i hope to negotiate. first offer seems too low....

Maybe i want clean unemployment. severance could affect benefits??????????????????????

Fu--ing, maybe I feel rushed. i do not want to sign under pressure.

Unemployment benefits claim

Please share your experience claiming unemployment benefits in the current state. I had worked for Wells Fargo for more than 5 years as a full time employee in lead level role. Looks like weekly benefit would be $300+ for 12 weeks with max of 4000 k +. And there is a waiting period involved for first claim?

24 Seven PBE please read

If you are a PBE freelancer on 24 Seven PLEASE reach out to them if you were laid off or are anticipating being let go. They told me to send them my personal email just in case I get locked out and my resume since they are a staffing agency.

You should also ask their HR about unemployment so you have it in writing you are eligible!! You technically do NOT work for Paramount or MTV you are a w2 employee for 24seven.

if you also are on their health insurance and get laid off you will lose benefits the end of that week but are able to continue with their premium plan plus a 2% agency fee.

I spoke over the phone with them directly because I found out we don't actually have deal memos stating our day rates/contracts which is very alarming and probably illegal and raised red flags about unemployment benefits. So every time your "contract" was up it was just to extend your email access and was made to seem like that was your real contract but it was not.

get everything in writing through email and take screenshots so you can protect yourselves!

Unemployment benefits elgibility and 'severance pay' in Texas

I stand to get 21 weeks and am most likely on the chopping block. Am i eligible to receive unemp benefits from day 1? Texas only counts after the 'period of coverage of the severence pay'. But the verbage at:
https://efte.twc.texas.gov/release_waiver_agreements.html
""2.Incentive money, i.e., money paid to secure an employee's agreement not to file claims or lawsuits, is not regarded as severance pay for unemployment claim purposes and will not affect unemployment benefits if it is paid to obtain a release or waiver of liability from the departing employee with regard to the Civil Rights Act of 1991, or to settle a claim or lawsuit that has already been filed, or in connection with a written contract that was negotiated between the employer and employee prior to the date of the work separation.""

#2 seems to indicate that in our case , the 'Enhanced lumpsum' we receive seems to be more of a 'I wont sue you for this money' so does not count as severance money or the sake of unemp benfs?

Forced ranking and state unemployment

For those who were let go as a result of forced ranking and made up poor performance, did you have any issues with getting state unemployment? I believe state would ask for reason for the job loss? What would BNY say? I understand misconduct could make one not eligible. How about this performance situation?

Lumen Loophole: No RIF/Unemployment If you refuse ATT

If you refuse an ATT offer Lumen per conf call referenced you would be effectively be quitting your Lumen job. Since you had a viable similar job option to continue working with att on the table that you refused.

Just spoke to NJ Transit unemployment office

So not that I wish it but I did contact NJ police unemployment office!!So they gave a ton of info ,but advised as a technician if we went on strike we would absolutely be able to collect the max weekly amount of $ 900 a week !!If they had management or contractors trying to fill our jobs as in the past we would not have a waiting period it would be immediate collect. So just planning on getting things in order paying some stuff saving some money along with preparing for the worst hoping for the best !One things for sure it is a big relief now that we finally have the right in nj to collect when on strike

Get an Attorney

Keep all your documents. Document everything. Keep a copy at home. Get ready for the force out. And get an attorney if you are forced out. If you are written up you will have to sign that you received/acknowledge it but do a follow up email with why you disagree with the write up. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING IN WRITING. DO NOT VOLUNTARY RESIGN make them fire you as thats better for your law suit and unemployment benefit.
