Pinterest plans 15% layoffs in move toward AI

The digital billboard company said in a Tuesday filing that the job cuts are part of a broader effort to redirect resources to teams and positions centered on artificial intelligence. According to the company, those AI-focused roles are key to boosting adoption and putting AI into practice.

Millions frozen to fund Ohio manufacturing support programs

After the administration suddenly froze millions in manufacturing support funding last month, Ohio groups entered the new year grappling with layoffs and uncertainty, despite efforts by lawmakers and businesses to restore the funding.

Cuts and more cuts

Everyone is being told they have to make do with less, and the next 12-18 months are going to be very challenging, rough, bumpy, tenuous. Masked words to likely mean layoffs, possible merit and/or AIP freezes or worse. Does anyone else find it interesting that the new interim CEO and these events all line up? Isn’t he a finance guy? Are we experiencing exactly what they hired him to do?

The end of KMBS

Sounds like KM is following Ricoh’s model in major accounts. Look for multiple layer changes. Inside sales will vastly expand. Sled will remain. Global accounts will remain. Production will integrate into a reformed IP. Performers have nothing to be concerned with. Dealers are growing however.

What's Project Dawn?

Is Amazon laying off caretakers and giving discounted soap to Engineers for kitchen cleaning? Or is it the dawn of a Day 2 era? Probably the latter. Layoffs only prove management incompetence - essentially a Bandaid batch for much bigger problems like inflating free cashflow and uncontrolled AI datacenter overspend.

LOTR and now MELANIA

Prime Video lost its bet on The Rings of Power and now it's repeating the failure with Melania just to score a few political favors with Trump. Then it sacked Jen Salke.

Reports say the new movie about Melania Trump has flopped at the box office. The project cost an estimated $75 million in total—between acquisition and global theatrical rollout—but is tracking at roughly $5 million for its opening weekend with many empty theatres.

After record year, ASML is to cut 1,700 jobs, mainly in NL

January 28, 2026

Chip machinery maker ASML is planning to cut its workforce by 1,700 jobs in the coming period, despite having its best-ever year in 2025.

The jobs, the company said in an email to staff ahead of the presentation of its 2025 earnings, will mostly go in the Netherlands and involve “streamlining” its technology and IT divisions to improve the focus on innovation and engineering.

The reorganisation, the company said, is necessary to ensure further growth by bringing back “the fast-moving culture which made us so successful”. ASML has a global workforce of 43,520.

The company booked net profit of €9.6 billion in 2025, on turnover of €31.7 billion. ASML expects further sales growth to between €34 billion and €39 billion this year.

Orders totalled €13 billion in the last three months of the year, almost double the same period in 2024. ASML also announced a new share buyback programme of up to €12 billion, to be executed by 31 December 2028.

ASML is one of Europe’s biggest companies and a major player in the Dutch economy.

Based in Veldhoven near Eindhoven, the company has been at the forefront of efforts to persuade the Dutch government not to discourage highly skilled workers from moving to the Netherlands from abroad and plans to develop a second campus in the region in the coming years.

This is what you’ll see on 1/28.

From an internal board: What you’ll find out on 1/28

You wake up at 10:00 a.m. for your 10:00 standup. You open your laptop, planning to tell the team you have no updates. You try to log into your Mac. It doesn’t work.

Panic sets in. Oh no—I'm going to miss standup. My manager is going to ki-l me.

You grab your phone to message the team on Slack. Slack won’t open. You’ve been logged out. Now you’re really freaking out. What is happening?!

You start trying to remember every paging alias. Okay, I’ll just page everyone.
You send paging emails from your personal email.

There’s a typo in one alias. You accidentally page Andy Jassy.

Andy Jassy’s executive assistant gets the page. She looks at her pager and sees your name. Who the he-l is this?
Then another page comes in.
Then another.
And another.

Her phone won’t stop ringing. It’s completely unusable.

She jumps out of bed and wakes Andy.
“Hey Andy.”

Andy rubs his eyes. “No. Hey.”

“Sorry Andy,” she says. “My phone went totally bananas. Everyone is paging you.”

Andy snaps back, “Too many bananas. So we asked ourselves: what’s the best way to get rid of bananas? That’s why we eliminated bananas. If you think about it, it’s just layoffs. Bananas go nuts.”

Then he rolls over and falls back into a deep sleep.

That’s what you’ll see on 1/28.

Brace yourself.

Nov 2025

Quite a few layoffs happened in November 2025, right before the U.S. mid-term election day so it would get buried in the news. It affected administrative and IT positions not only at hubs but smaller airports. "People were being immediately escorted out in large groups of ten or more." The 2025 third quarter "dog and pony show" right before those layoffs was completely out of touch, per usual, and they reported spending millions on a "grab-and-go" food section at CLT, a new alcohol partner for first class, and a yet "really bad" earnings quarter. Their Station GMs had a mandatory in-person "training retreat" the week prior and were told of the layoffs, but told not to tell their staff. As someone who's seen AA's lack of oversight and poor spending decisions from as far back as their US Airways merger days up close, and attempted to put an end to them, I am not surprised. "AA is an 800-pound gorilla." Money was/is overspent right and left. Accounts being auto-paid for services no longer rendered or properties no longer occupied, etc. simply because it's too big and no one is watching. Rather than practicing natural talent attrition from the COVID days, and truly evaluating work supported by operational, administrative and IT positions for already skeleton teams, they resorted to these drastic layoffs. I would not be surprised if non-hub mainline stations will all transition to partners starting in 2026, corporate's out-of-touch management and spending simply can't sustain both them and the field.

Glencore Layoffs

Glencore is cutting 1,000 jobs to reduce costs as it focuses more on the growing demand for copper. The company is also merging its nickel and zinc operations. Glencore employs about 150,000 people worldwide. It plans to spend a lot of money to increase copper production, aiming to become one of the world’s largest copper miners.

4,000

Omnicom plans to lay off more than 4,000 workers and shut down several well-known advertising agencies after buying rival Interpublic Group for $13 billion. The advertising industry is under growing pressure as artificial intelligence changes how ads are made. Big tech companies like Meta are also making it easier and faster for businesses to create ads on a large scale.

2500 Layoffs @ Claire's

High street shops Claire’s and The Original Factory Shop are going into administration, which could put about 2,500 jobs at risk. Claire’s, which is well known for selling accessories to young people, had been looking for a buyer after its American owner went bankrupt last year. Modella Capital, which owns both stores, said the businesses will enter insolvency proceedings in the UK and Ireland.

700 Laid Off

Dun & Bradstreet terminated more than 700 people today, 1/27/2026. They eliminated jobs across all US based business units, all titles, all the way up to SVP.

They have consolidated sales teams and instituted double digit growth goals even though they grew at low single digits in 2025.

Private equity takeover ruins everything and always eliminated jobs.

Just Sad

Coworkers laid off last week, this week I hear the product I work on is being gutted. Some will move to other areas, others will be let go. For the “lucky ones” that remain, it feels like we are left behind on a sinking ship. Lower 401k, no hopes for promotion, they removed our bonuses, and after the earnings call today it seems things will continue to get worse. Besides the people I work with I can’t think of a single positive thing about working for this company, and ironically they’re in the process of wrecking that last part. The toughest part is that we can’t complain about low morale because that is by design. Leadership wants people to hate their job so they quit. Things are looking bleak - decided to start looking outside the company today.

Agile Leadership, lol

Let’s start by saying the quiet part out loud: most of the “agile leadership” still hanging around the bank looks like the clearance rack of corporate transformation. Folks who washed out of Best Buy and Target and couldn’t quite stick the landing anywhere else in the Fortune 500. You could cut half the agile coaches and performative agile leaders tomorrow and the only noticeable impact would be fewer meetings about meetings.

The latest org changes just reinforce that reality. A digital leader casually floated the idea that there was “opportunity” to rotate product and agile assignments across teams. Translation: since we can’t actually promote or develop people, let’s blow up stable teams instead and call it growth. Why not inject a little chaos, instability, and work/life imbalance for fun?
Naturally, instead of agile leadership doing their actual jobs, like explaining why this is a spectacularly bad idea and gently escorting that leader away from the cliff, they went all in.

Scrum Masters got shuffled around, including ones who were deeply embedded with teams that existed long before said leaders showed up. And, of course, everyone was told to keep quarterly planning on track, maintain team performance, and execute rushed handoffs at the same time. Because nothing says “agile maturity” quite like lighting the house on fire and asking everyone to keep dinner warm.

And let’s not forget the timing. This brilliant idea was floating around before ICE went full dystopian cosplay in local communities - storming around, kidnapping children, pepper spraying grandma on her way to target, and generally reminding everyone that the world is already on edge. Against that backdrop, I have to hand it to our failed agile leaders for truly impeccable coordination: announcing these changes while simultaneously rolling out layoffs. Chef’s kiss.

Nothing reassures employees quite like organizational chaos paired with “by the way, your job might disappear.” Thank you so very much for letting me keep this absolutely fantastic job, at least for now.

An enterprise-wide commitment to failing fast, failing often, and learning absolutely nothing.
