Forbes Reduces Workforce Amid Revenue Challenges

The media company Forbes has announced staff reductions affecting a portion of its employees. These cuts are a direct response to revenue shortfalls experienced in the first half of the fiscal year. CEO Sherry Phillips stated that the company is reallocating resources to focus on high-growth areas. The exact number of employees impacted and specific departments affected were not disclosed. Affected staff members have reportedly been informed of the changes.

How Does the Resource Action (RA) Process Usually Work?

Hi everyone,

I’ve heard some rumours that there might be another Resource Action (RA) in 2026, so I was wondering if anyone could share some insight into how the process usually worked in the past — either from personal experience or based on what you’ve seen happen to colleagues.

In particular, I’m curious about the timing and communication:

Is it usually brought up during a regular 1:1, or is there a separate meeting specifically for this?
Around what time of the month did this typically happen?
How much advance notice was usually given between the initial communication and the actual end date?

I understand that the process may vary depending on the country, organization, or specific RA, so I’d be interested in hearing any experiences you’ve had personally or observed with colleagues.

Thanks!

Visa Reallocates Resources Amidst Technological Shifts

Visa's recent workforce reduction is not solely an indicator of AI replacing jobs but rather a strategic capital reallocation. The company reported record financial performance concurrently with the layoffs, suggesting a business in growth, not decline. This move highlights a broader trend of companies re-evaluating their workforce in response to evolving technological landscapes. The article posits that AI and tokenization are the primary drivers of change within the financial sector. Ultimately, the focus is on how tasks within jobs are transforming, rather than a wholesale elimination of roles.

NatGen Engineers

Is the plan to actually integrate/onboard them or replace them with H1-B hires in India, once their systems have been brought over?

There doesn’t seem to be any plan, from what I can tell. Seems like they are trying to figure out what to do with the NatGen folks. Or maybe they aren’t in the plans for the future, and that’s the reason.

Automated BIG approved

Barstow intermodal gateway project approved for construction according to media, so in less than 5 years when new contracts come up for bid, Barstow current facility and Shepherd going to be closed down, with resources shifted the same way the did in Interbay to Vancouver, transcon traffic will increase but facilities like Houston that require annual repair are going to be scabbed out to RJ Corman like Pearland. That’s why there is no more mechanical facilities other than Temple from the coast to Tulsa, and seniority wise Houston is almost at 20 years to hold in TY&E
