What’s your theme song?
I’ve been through 4 layoffs at 3 different companies, unfortunately it’s a common corporate playbook for those working in IT
The first layoff, my theme song was - It’s My Life by Bon Jovi. Played that so loud on repeat, and it kept me going
This layoff, it’s - Unstoppable by Sia
What’s your theme song, one that gives you energy and motivates you, that will power you thru this storm?
It's even more jacked if you look at the timing
Let's say every worker averages 100k. So each personal day is ~$400 on average and each worker uses 2 personal days during Christmas because they dont carry over. Let's also exclude NJ workers from the equation who get 90 days notice.
Since they don't pay out personal days it saves up to ~5-10 million by getting rid of Workers before Christmas week. As opposed to being off books on 12/31.
I mostly feel relieved
I lost a job I didn’t even like, and I definitely won’t miss my manager, or a few people on my team, for that matter. But I’m still terrified of what’s out there. I’ve saved enough to bridge myself over for a bit, which helps ease the anxiety. I’m giving myself some time to decompress, and then I know I’ll flip straight into panic mode the moment I start dealing with the job market. I have this feeling things will get worse before they get better. It’s really hard to feel even remotely optimistic these days.

RIF CA remote workers
If you only received a 30 daybWARN notice, CHALLENGE IT. They are trying to sc--w those of us that work remote. Your job profile probably says walnut or Irvine. Contact the Ask HR and be sure to challenge their policy (which is not the law). Here is what I sent... (the more of us that challenge their bad business practice the better for all of us)
Dear HR Department / [Specific HR Contact Name if known],
I am writing to formally acknowledge receipt of the layoff notification dated November 20, 2025, with an effective date of December 20, 2025.
Given the significant number of employees affected by the recent workforce reduction, both within California and company-wide, I have questions regarding the notice period provided under applicable state and federal laws, specifically the California WARN Act and the federal WARN Act.
The notice I received provides 30 days' advance notice. However, both the federal WARN Act and the California WARN Act generally require employers to provide at least 60 days' advance written notice for mass layoffs.
I kindly request the following information:
Clarification of the Notice Period: Please confirm if the 30-day notice period is being provided in accordance with a specific exception to the 60-day notice requirement (such as the "unforeseeable business circumstances" or "faltering company" exceptions), and if so, provide documentation supporting the applicability of that exception.
Documentation of Compliance: Please provide documentation verifying that notice has been given to the appropriate state agency (California Employment Development Department (EDD)) and local government officials as required by the WARN Act regulations. Employers can email their notices to the EDD at eddwarnnotice@edd.ca.gov.
I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to receiving the requested information.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]

Why are they doing “secret” layoffs?
There’s been multiple layoffs in the past week where they are only informing associates internal to that particular org. Are they planning to inform the rest of the firm? Genuinely wondering.
Layoffs Clorox
Clorox is laying off; they are being careful to keep under 50 so they don't have to announce it to the public. It's done quietly a few here and there throughout the month (some this week, others next week, etc.). It's unfortunate that it's mostly the over 50 and long tenure that are being affective.
The movie The Company Men
Just saw this movie and it’s about Verizon.
The gist of it is a company laying off employees and everyone is on the chopping block, even the ones who don’t expect it. And the ones who get let go get a small severance and struggle to find work.
Just when I thought rifs were over I’m hearing us further up after Frontier merger
Man will there ever be piece .I figured so was safe but heard from above that it’s not done.I hope I survive the next round
Still feeling just as bad as the moment I learned I was laid off
I thought the weekend would help. Nope. I still feel betrayed, I still feel angry, and I still feel scared. How do you get rid of this awful, awful feeling in the pit of your stomach? How long does it take for it to go away? I was never laid off before and I truly hope this is my only such experience.
1,140 layoffs
General Motors has scheduled 1,140 employees for permanent layoffs effective Jan. 5 at its Factory Zero site in Detroit. The list includes hundreds of assembly operators and is "due to production schedule adjustment required to adapt to slower near-term EV adoption," the company said in a notice to state of Michigan officials.

Keep Kicking a RIFer while they are down
Bad enough after 30 years to get kicked to the curb as a high performer, but now they are starting to remove people from the Slack groups. Just another reminder of you are just a number. Couldn't wait until everyone is off the payroll, just keep ripping off the band aid again and again.
Lay off without severance
It is now new tactics to save money. Giving forced NS to senior person and lay him off without giving any severance package. Thus company is saving money. This is new trend in visa

I was contacted about my layoff by private lawfirm...
Key Point
NetApp did not follow required federal rules for layoffs involving employees over 40.
What Went Wrong:
The Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) requires companies to give employees over 40 a written list of:
The job titles and ages of those selected for layoff
The job titles and ages of those who were not selected
This information must be given before or at the same time as the severance agreement.
NetApp did not provide this list with the severance documents.
Why This Matters:
When a company fails to meet OWBPA rules, parts of their severance agreement become invalid and unenforceable.
That means certain waivers in the agreement cannot legally block people from taking action.
What’s Happening Now:
An investigative group has been contacting many of us from the April and September layoffs.
They are gathering details about who was let go and how the paperwork was handled.
The investigation appears to be tied to a New York firm preparing a class-action lawsuit.
My Decision:
I’m joining the class action.
Anyone over 40 who was affected should look into it as well.
If the required documents were never provided, the severance agreement is weakened, and federal rules were violated.

Remote Workforce Layoffs in December
There are plans for laying off the remote employees w/o poss relocation to HQ in December. They think it will be too messy to offer remote workers option to move.
These may get pushed back to Jan/Feb.
The board has been coming into the office several days a week even during the pandemic. This is not about productivity, it’s about satisfying an unfounded perception from the board that also meets the cut numbers they want for profitability.
Thanksgiving / BF Pay
Do you get paid for Thanksgiving and Black Friday if you got laid off. Or you will only get paid for 40 hours this week?
Prepare for Fraud Layoffs in Q1 and Q2
With the leadership team planning the budget next week, a significant portion will be over layoffs. They overhired and are moving faster than expected on the Consent Order.
At the same time, they are pushing ICs to move faster and faster leading to burnout, while planning to lay those same people off. The leadership was bemoaning that after the CO is over, there needs to be busy work until the layoff details could be finalized.
Internal Job postings ( if/ when)
Has anyone heard of when they might post new jobs? How has it been in the past when a layoff happens?

More layoffs at Cetera Financial Group
Wealth management company Cetera Financial Group laid off a “small” number of employees to streamline its operations, a company spokeswoman said on Friday. Cetera, owned by private-equity firm Genstar Capital Partners, also conducted layoffs earlier this year. The latest round didn’t affect teams that support Cetera’s thousands of financial advisors, the spokeswoman said.

Everybody seems to know something huge is coming
A lot of people have quietly started looking at options, just in case. It feels weird, like preparing for something we shouldn’t have to. Still, better to be ready than caught off guard when things shift.
Has anybody else already started searching?
No matter what your end date is? I already sent out about 50 applications. I know some people are taking some time to recover, but I'm too scared to wait.
Question from a recent hire
I joined four months ago, I'd just like to know if Schwab ever has layoffs around Thanksgiving and Christmas or if there is no need to worry before next year?
