IT is impossible to work with at Chevron

I’ve been here for 3 years now. Software engineer. Came from a smaller company in a different industry.

Trying to build and deploy ANYTHING at this company is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever had to do. Getting access to do anything in Azure is frustrating creating resources in azure is frustrating deploying anything to prod in azure is frustrating and fails if you have a single character out of place. Playbooks are all over the place and impossible to find unless you know the secret phrase. I could deploy in less than 5 minutes at my last job, here I plan on it taking half a day.

We even started using power apps last year just to avoid the azure headaches even though I never wanted to consider it. It actually worked pretty well but apparently the power app lead left and now we have nobody who can answer our questions as we figure the platform out, so it’s back to square one.

Why does IT in Chevron make it so hard for developers to do anything? At least we got GitHub copilot. I just want to build sh-t and get it to our users. I’m already looking for the next job somewhere else that lets me do my work.

Closely Monitor Servicefund Dept. Directors

—Ensure they are putting in 8 hour days, 40 hour work weeks
—Ensure they are doing more than just attending (unnecessary for them) all day back to back meetings and not any real work
—Ensure they are not favoring some of their employees while harming others. Giving growth projects to some while starving work for others that work for them (unfairly).
—Make sure they are not just protecting their own careers but not their staff
—Check and see if they were the cause of pushing out some excellent employees within the last couple of years that had excellent work ethic.
—Check to see if they stood up for employees being pushed out that asked (even begged) for their leader’s intercession and advocacy but those same leaders would not lift one finger or one word to help.
—If these Directors and Associate Directors are not properly doing their jobs , then cut them loose!

RETURN TO OFFICE

So why is it that some people feel this does not apply to them. Don't get me wrong. I was wfh the majority of the last 2 years, but I enjoy seeing my coworkers in person. There are entire offices and teams that dont come in even though this was a mandate from Global. Cameron and others, get your cr-p together. If you are going to enforce it than it should apply to everyone within a proximity of an office. While I enjoy being in the office, I am tired of being asked by others "why am I in the office, you are making us look bad" . Its not my fault your boss thinks shes special and these rules dont apply. I am just trying to do my job and keep it.

Boss fired

Last day today at AT&T - Got my boss fired after filing a complaint 6 months ago. Called AT&T’s hotline , filed a complaint, provided proof of harassment and discrimination and teammates who witnessed it helped out also. Recorded every teams call with an external phone and provided all recordings to HR investigation team.

Leaving the company with a 6 figure payout. Entire org is toxic!!

Good luck everyone and don’t be afraid to speak out.

What is happening

maybe i am being overly optimistic but that ask srini anything was the realest conversation this company has had since early Legere. Just tell us the truth we’re adults. Good for Srini. But I still don’t know what I need to do to assure I won’t get laid off. Like I know that’s not bulletproof but how can I increase my odds and know if I’m on the right track in my career? Am I moving the ball forward or backward? That’s all I need to know and I’ll stop stressing and drink the kool aid again. Please srini we’re thirsty over here

Relocating was such a mistake

I moved across the country for State Farm based on what they told me during interviews. Now that I'm here, the role and team setup are completely different from what I agreed to. My responsibilities aren't even close to what we discussed. You can't just undo a relocation like that but they act like it's no big deal. Nobody seems to give a damn.

I voted no and here is what happens next.

It took 8 years for the union to get ba--s after the terrible 2008 contract. 2016 we went on strike and made modest gains.

We lost those ba--s.

8 years from now, Dan or whoever, will invoke the spirit of Lowell and come after us again. We should have stood our ground now so we won’t need to do it in 8 years. We could have made REAL gains today but now we will make only modest gains going forward.

Di-k's Sporting Goods Begins Foot Locker Job Cuts

Di-k's Sporting Goods has started layoffs at Foot Locker. This occurs nearly a year after its acquisition of the retailer. Unnamed sources confirmed the news to Footwear News. Some employees were asked to return to office or relocate. Redundancies were expected following the merger.

Truist to be acquired later this year!

Looks like Truist Financial Corporation is gonna get scooped up by Citigroup later this year. Bill and the execs will ride off into the sunset laughing their tails off at us with a massive windfall. The rest of us? We’ll be lucky just to hang onto our jobs. Massive layoffs feel inevitable. And yeah, from what I’ve heard, the employee culture at Citi su-ks ba--s.

Are they really going to happen tomorrow?

I know there are too many articles and posts signaling the layoffs are going to happen tomorrow , i.e. 3/31. Since it’s just a day, anyone can confirm here if they got some hints or would get today. No trolls please! Asking genuinely. Will then balance out the work and backing up.

Asking for US.

Everything seems so normal except online.

Sheri Bronstein knew about the hours analyst were working and did nothing. We told her that is how i know ut us true.

Why is she still here? She failed in her most precious task and i see her on LinkedIn accepting paid for bogus awards "best HR person" at some HR boondoggle in Orlando or Phoenix with a bunch of HR Eco chamber id--ts. Sheri did you pay for those trips or did the company?
Brian, she has no credibly or trust with the workforce.

Oracle Layoffs - My Experience

I want to share my experience of the layoff process at Oracle. I was RIF'd in September 2025. I worked for Oracle for 17 years: 7 years in the UK and then transferred to the US for personal reasons (my wife is American and we wanted to be closer to family). Oracle made that move so much simpler and for all the bad things I will forever be grateful to Oracle. During my time in the US I was relatively high achieving within my team and had carved out a unique and critical DevOps role within my team. It wasn't rocket science, but it was unique and critical and I thought it gave me some protection against a RIF. On the Tuesday before I was RIF'd (Wednesday) I attended a meeting with my VP, Senior Director, Director (I was IC4) and we were planning for some business critical work that coming weekend. This is relevant as no one in those positions had any idea it was coming or we would not have been wasting our time on that planning meeting! The following morning we had another meeting (Oracle and their meetings...) and the VP didn't show up... the senior director didn't show up... the director and the ICs all showed up. I then got wind of something being up around 30 mins after the meeting as people were starting to disappear on Slack. I messaged my Director and he was talking to me on the phone and then he excused himself and had to drop for an urgent meeting that had just shown up in his calendar. He messaged me 10 minutes later to say that he had been RIF'd and his access was going to go away and gave me his personal email and said he was there to help however things worked out (great guy). Then around 30 mins later I received an email from my EVP. It was a boilerplate job and basically said "Today is your last day with Oracle, so long and thanks for all the fish". My Slack etc carried on working and in fact all my access continued working, that struck me as super d-mb.... I didn't do anything with that access but others might not have been so responsible! Around 2 hours later I was locked out of everything and was left numb walking off into the sunset. I received my severance on schedule and that was that. It all just felt very sloppy and isn't the way I would have handled it. An email after 17 years just felt a lot like a "F U". My entire org was laid off (bar a couple a of guys to keep the lights on - who wants to be that guy!!) so it was obviously not personal but it just felt so sloppy.

What if.....

What if you were told, "we are going to lay you off, should have been done already, but we have too much work at the moment. So, we need you here to do the work then we will lay you off."
This has actually happened in Tech under BT's watch.
The question is, would you put in 100% and do your best, or would you say "scr3w it, I'm marking my time since they don't want me"?
I think I'd be in the latter group. Having been told that is extremely harsh and super bad for morale. (although I don't think they care about morale)
What about the co-workers? How do you even face each other knowing the axe is hanging above heads?

Solventum = ZimmerBiomet 2.0

1.) Hire exec. team of highly compensated "friends" to virtue signal
2.) Create us vs 'them' environment
3.) Have numerous employee indoctrination meetings
4.) Spin-off non core businesses
5.) Quarterly lay-offs of 'them'
6.) Complain that Bryan isn't Chairmen of the Board

Rinse and repeat.

Dell Derangement Syndrome (DDS)

A rare but rapidly spreading condition triggered when Michael Dell logs on, drops a “Go American” post, and starts sounding like he just got off a call with Donald Trump.

Symptoms include:

Immediate emotional spiral on internal boards

Writing a 9-paragraph manifesto no one asked for on the layoff site

Saying “this isn’t political” while being extremely political

Refreshing comments like it’s the stock ticker during earnings

Advanced stages:

Convincing yourself every product launch is now a campaign rally

Interpreting supply chain updates as coded political messaging

Believing your PowerEdge server has a voting preference

Diagnosis:
A corporate variant of Trump Derangement Syndrome but with more acronyms, fewer facts, and way worse comment sections.

Treatment:
Log off
Touch grass
Stay off layoff sites until mild sedation sets in
