Gas price relief?

With gas prices rising at an astronomical rate, I've heard rumors that T is considering lowering the in-office average for the summer months to 2 days a week. Obviously this would be amazing for all of the employees who are suffering with increased cost of living across the board. Is there any truth to this?


Charlotte Office Filthy

Can we not do better here? If you want people in the office, maybe push a vacuum or dust once in a while? Office is so filthy we itch when we come in, cups and coffee are few and far between. No working water dispensers in any floor currently. Reserve space covered in grease from prior persons lunch…Thanks USBank for return to office bacterial frappe :(


Don't be so negative! Don't work too hard and collect the paychecks!

It is a good place to work. Hear me out. The senior slackers and butt kissers have taught me well.

  1. It's a job with decent pay and benefits, but it's just a job.
  2. Put in the 35 hours a week. Don't milk it too much. Even if you work at McDonald's, you have to put in the hours.
  3. For those hot projects and rushes, put in the 40 to 45 weeks. Possibly, a weekend too. Collect the kudos, high-fives, and pats on the back; these will buy you slack when you need it. Don't forget to give some back too.
  4. No matter how you really feel. Just act friendly. Put on a fake smile and say hi. Don't be anti-social. Go the extra mile and ask if they have plans for the weekend or ask them how their weekend went. Pretend to care.
  5. Don't feel like going into the office for a few days. Want an extra day to recover from that long fishing weekend? Let your manager know that you've come down with something. Tell them that you don't want to come in and share it with everyone and that you'll work as much as possible from home. Even if you can, don't work those long hours at home. Put on a good act for a good show.
  6. Want to go home early. Let your coworkers and manager know that you're not feeling so well. What can they say?
  7. Don't be shy; give your co-workers and manager a kudo once in a while. Even if it's just a thank-you. It's an easy way to brown-nose.
  8. Dress decent. Dress for success. Dress for the job. Don't be a slob.
  9. Don't install the company apps on your phone. Trust no one.
  10. Never do personal stuff on your company laptop or devices. Do it on your own device. Don't give them the chance to track your activities.
  11. Never give bad feedback. Always pretend that all is positive.
  12. Always attend your meetings; this includes the company-wide ones. Never know who's tracking attendance.

Now you know how others survive, even if they have poor skills and are clearly not performing.

It's an easy ride. Enjoy it!

Now go to work and put on a good show. I do, and you can too! Practice makes perfect!


Enough with layoffs

I have survived so, so many layoff rounds now, and the pattern is always the same. As soon as the last person from the previous round clears out their desk, someone in leadership starts floating the idea of another round. Can we actually have some time to do some work without having to simultaneously worry about our jobs, please?


My stomach is in knots most Monday/Tuesday following a payday, anyone else?

And the weird thing is, I'm relatively insulated. I have low expenses, and have built up oversize savings after several years working for a company doing layoffs all the time. I think even if I was somehow fired without severance, I'd probably be fine. But living with the constant uncertainty is ki-ling me. This kind of low-level, continuous underlying stress cannot be healthy. I don't know how people with kids or just less of a financial cushion are doing it.

I'm sure I'll get some trolls in the replies but just curious if anyone can relate.


Finally landed something else!

Took forever, over a year. I almost threw in the towel. So glad I didn't. It's a much smaller company, pay is comparable, and they actually seem stable. Fingers crossed they don't go under or slash headcount the week I show up. Either way, best of luck to everyone still looking. Stay persistent. Don't quit. The market is brutal, worse than I remember, but there are still jobs out there.


There's life after Macy's

A good life. I was so used to that place that I stayed way too long when I could have been working at a place that has better pay, is actually staffed well, and doesn't have managers who get off on yelling at the rest of us. Give it a try, folks. There are much better employers than Macy's.


My team was one of the ones left crippled

I'm still a wreck and stressed beyond words. And at the same time I'm still grieving people who weren't just coworkers, they were family. We ate together, struggled together, celebrated together. Now they're gone and I'm still here. I thought this feeling would pass by now, but it's not. I'm stuck with it.


Employee appreciation

I thought the employee appreciation day in HQ was so well done, I really enjoyed hearing about all the award winners. The food trucks were an added bonus to bad it’s only once a year. Would be nice to see people smile like that once a quarter. Plus I think bring your kid day should definitely be brought back it’s fun seeing the little kids!

Life after suffering at exxon.

Well I stayed way too long at exxon. Now I am working at a place where my work is valued and I am not being told I constantly need to improve. I do my engineering work and design work for this new company and get paid well. I keep feeling like the manager is going to berate me and tell me I am not doing a good job. I also keep wondering if my co workers are going to back stab me. None of this is happening at my new company. It could be because the company is small and they need experienced engineers like me. They allow me to do a good job and leave me alone. I can proposed new ideas and they are not shot down, Instead new ideas are welcomed and implemented. There is also no push to work more than 40 hours per week. I do a little extra because it is a nice environment to work at. I feel like I am suffering from PSTD because of the toxic workplace at exxon. It takes a while to get used to a healthy workplace. I have been away from exxon for 2 years and it feels so good to be away from all the horrible people and toxicity.


Exhausted

I got home from work the other day, laid down on the floor… felt 100 pct worn out…

My wife looks at me and says, why r u so tired? You were just sitting at a desk for 8 hrs…

Some people do not understand that desk jobs can be exhausting too. It is not just sitting. It is nonstop meetings, phone calls, dealing with different people, navigating sh-t personalities, handling stress, and making decisions all day.

By the end of it, my brain is done. If one more person asks me to do something, I might lose it.

Please tell me I am not the only one.

Employee morale is so bad and stressed out that the leadership need to bring a therapy dog to make employees feel better.

Also, because of the above point, we are stopping measurement of the employee pulse score until morale improves.

Finally, we are going to delete your-voice slack channel because the leadership team is tired of you whiners.


smile and say profit

i come into work every day and smile and make small talk with everyone. i act like everything is perfect. i compliment every body. i make jokes. i laugh at jokes that aren't funny. i don't bring up any problems. if i don't do all of that then it feels like they are just waiting to punish me.

i am really tired of this act. we are not family. i just want to collect my check and go home. so stop forcing me to act. last time i checked i ain't collecting a hollywood paycheck.


AHHHH It's Friday 1 and done, time to go home.

Averaging over 8 hours for the first 4 days of the week. I subtract that from my Friday hours so I average only 40 hours for the week. Just about time to go. I love the new culture that Stank has created. Have a great weekend. Remember, the Masters is next week so be sure to get bring in your personal tablet to watch from your desk on Thursday!
