Open Text runs on tradition, not innovation

This is a company stuck in amber. Old school processes, old school thinking, old school resistance to anything new. Propose a fresh idea and watch it get crushed. Try to work differently and see how fast you get shut down. Individual contribution isn't rewarded, compliance is. And we're all slowly suffocating under the weight of "this is how we've always done it."

Enbridge Culture

What is our true Enbridge culture?

I was asked to become a Culture Ambassador a while back and, admittedly, was skeptical, I’ve never fully trusted HR initiatives that claim to gather grassroots input. A recent meeting has me genuinely reflecting on what our actual culture is at Enbridge, as opposed to the aspirational one we often describe. I’d be interested to hear others’ perspectives.

MPC & P66 merger

Just read an article about merger talks earlier this year. Nothing materialized and nothing more is expected to happen but it made me wonder what the combined company would have been like to work for after the merger.

Having joined MPC from Andeavor/Tesoro, I know things got noticeably worse once MPC took over. Both in little and big ways, it’s not been as enjoyable, fulfilling, and rewarding to work at MPC. No doubt MPC has created shareholder value way beyond what was thought possible at Andeavor but I’m 99.99% an employee and only 0.01% a shareholder so I’m not feeling much of that “value add” from MPC.

So, all that is to say: Would an MPC/P66 company have been better or worse?

If I Were A Web Scrapping Algorithm

If I were a web scrapping algorithm I would definitely scrape this website for general internal sentiment at companies. Such a web scrapping algorithm might be used to inform investment decisions naturally.

If that were the case I think that the web scrappers should know that our current CEO has no plan. The only plan is to reduce headcount to increase profitability. Besides that the plan is to produce a new front end for our employees to use when interfacing with our customers. This front end will over index on AI utilization and thus necessarily increase the costs of every single interaction at Verizon. By increasing cost I mean increase the cost of processing the transaction FOR Verizon. Which will ultimately be passed on to the customer, and further derail price competition.

Meanwhile there is no substantial plan to rectify the twisted multi architecture back end that backs all of VZ’s actual business processes. Basically we have several organizations devoted to individual legs of the flow of data for a single interaction. No documentation or insight into those legs. Thus no visibility into the inner working in our own ordering systems.

This is not going to be addressed. If it is then Dan Schulman’s answer is vendor consolidation and outsourcing the entire department’s responsible for this mess. Which will not work in such a way that secures long term investment in the company.

The only real answer is clean out middle management and bringing in outside talent. However there has been no real move towards that, not even an expressed desire.

End of the day. Do not invest in VZ web scrappers.

Did anyone actually trigger the mythic FY26 bonus?

Happy August 14th! Now that the official "you must be present to win" date has arrived, did OpenText actually pay out any annual bonuses today? After they raised the achievement metrics last year, I’m genuinely curious if anyone saw 100%, a fraction, or just a big fat zero. I was part of the March spring cleaning and luckily walked away with my prorated bonus fully baked in.Did the rest of you get a reward for surviving, or did the goalposts shift right off the field?

What the actual f*ck is going on right now?

On credit hold with nearly every vendor that’s need at RUSH… CT not working, internet not working, server crashes, phones in stores not working, let’s not even get into the absolute garbage fire of Shopify…. I spend 80% of my day “putting in a ticket” or following up on a ticket… or resubmitting a ticket I’ve already placed… but, oh, if you’re behind or not getting results it’s your fault because you’re not being persistent enough. Let’s not forget to GET MORE EMAILS! But oh, sorry, let me check you out on my Shopify register… oops sorry, actually, I can’t because half of what you’re trying to buy doesn’t scan so let me take you to this other register! Don’t forget to get your surveys filled out with Highly Satisfied! What an actual joke…..

Dan schulman - dictatorship

In the name of ai, he brought his stooges and now ki-ling actual working groups in verizon. He is super biased toward enterprise ai group led by hi* no respect for other groups who have shown millions of actual saving on ground. 0 fair chance for others to even present their work.

Director’s Club?

Curious, does anyone else feel like there’s a “Club” for Directors and above and then there’s everyone else. Our Sr Leadership is so completely out of touch with the reality of this company and have no clue what the groups they “lead” actually do, Managers just don’t care anymore to the point that they’re absolutely useless, and then there’s those trying to get the work done in completely broken systems. Is it the state of the current workforce and corporates, or is it just Enbridge that is COMPLETELY F’ING BROKEN!?!

Dan Schulman - Blind

Dan is blind, he has no vision, no idea, ki-ling departments left and right. No respect for talent, he says he is promoting ai but ki-ling solid ai groups in verizon who has made difference. He is super biased toward only 1 group in Verizon (himanshu’s group) and never gave chance to others to even present their stuff.

HR Entanglement

Why is our HR department so entangled? The uncle of KC and her sister was the previous CHRO. KC and LJ were friends before their rapid promotions. BW worked with KC at another place and gets promoted even though he keeps failing. AH is related to KC's uncle. The new SD WB was brought from North Carolina and put into a role out of nowhere. The list feels like it goes on and on.

At this Point.. Take it Personally

In corporate settings, toxic behavior rarely stems from ignorance. Adults in leadership positions know when they are micro-managing, publicly correcting, dismissing input, or shifting goalposts.

Organizations often grant "grace" downward, expecting employees to absorb poor managerial behavior under the guise of "leadership style" or "stress," while treating an employee's emotional reaction or boundary as a performance issue. This asymmetric tolerance erodes psychological safety and corrupts institutional security.

When bad behavior is ignored at the leadership level, it signals professional accountability and workforce engagement practices are optional for the powerful.

Schwamily - not so much!

One of the things Schwab like to bring forward is the unique "Schwamily" concept. I.e., that everyone is like a big family, and care for each other.

I would like to know if someone actually experienced that?

After working for Schwab for more than 10 years, I was laid off a couple of months ago. Many I had worked with on a daily basis for years.

How many reached out to me after I left? You know the answer. No one!

I always reached out to people I knew were laid off, and I always got the same response: "Thanks, you are the only one that reached out." So, I was not really surprised when I got the same treatment.

The Schwamily concept is an HR ploy, with no bearing in reality. Prove me wrong.

Schwab is "dog eat dog", nothing else.

Career Mobility Site - Internal job board

Citi's job board is a total fraud. Every fake interview is just a cruel waste of time for a job already promised to some buddy or contractor.

HR and managers have zero morals. Someone needs to audit this rotten system, and the candidates who applied internally should start saving screenshots of the staff lists before and after few months to catch them in their lies.
What a waste of time!

Dreading RTO - how are we coping?

I just paid $4.29 for gas and dreading returning to office full time. Why isn’t Fidelity addressing this giant elephant in the room? This combined with everyday living expenses, how are people making it work?
If they want us back in full time, fine. But is now really the best time? They could let the dust settle, let prices come down, and then require full time back in office; we could continue our schedule we’ve been following for years now until then. It just seems completely tone deaf and I am sick of pretending this is fine and the new normal.

The Truth About the Most Recent Reorg

The Truth Behind the Cengage Reorg: What Employees Need to Understand Now
After the May 1st reorganization, many people inside Cengage are still trying to make sense of what’s happening — and why it feels so chaotic. The confusion isn’t accidental. It’s structural. And it’s tied directly to Cengage’s upcoming IPO and Apollo’s exit strategy.

Let’s break down what’s really going on.

  1. The Reorg Isn’t About Innovation — It’s About Optics
Externally, Cengage is presenting a clean, simplified business structure:

Higher Education
Work
School
English Language Learning

Internally, that means collapsing or gutting legacy divisions like Milady, NGL, and Gale.
The “pod” model — three reps, one Strategic Account Director, 8–12 institutions — isn’t a breakthrough. It’s a cost-cutting measure dressed up as strategy.

The goal is simple:
Make the company look streamlined and scalable to investors.

  1. Apollo Needs Predictable Revenue Before the IPO
Cengage’s private equity owners aren’t trying to build a long-term sales organization. They’re trying to stabilize revenue long enough to take the company public.

That’s why CUI contracts suddenly matter more than anything else.

CUI = predictable, multi-year, institution-wide digital access agreements.

These contracts:
lock in revenue
reduce churn
make the company look stable
help justify IPO valuation

Whether the sales team is overwhelmed or the customer experience suffers is secondary. The priority is recurring revenue, not growth.

  1. The Pod Model Creates More Managers, Not More Support
    Each rep now answers to:

their discipline-specific manager
their Strategic Account Director
and indirectly, the institutional strategy team
This isn’t efficiency — it’s bureaucracy.

It’s also a way to justify higher-paid leadership roles while reducing the number of reps actually doing the work.

  1. Customer Support Is Collapsing — And It’s Not a Mistake
When divisions are gutted and expertise is lost, customers feel it immediately.

Support is slow.
Issues go unresolved.
Reps rely on Slack channels staffed by a handful of legacy employees.

This isn’t mismanagement — it’s a side effect of cost-cutting.

  1. The Company Is Being Prepared for Sale, Not Success
Look at the external financial reporting:

IPO planned for 2026
heavy cost reductions
restructuring into fewer business units
aggressive digital pivot
consolidation of product lines
pressure to show stable EBITDA

These are classic signs of a private equity exit.

Apollo wants out.
The IPO is the exit.
Everything happening internally is designed to support that outcome.

  1. Employees Aren’t Crazy — The System Is
    If you feel:

confused
overwhelmed
unsupported
unsure where divisions went
unclear who owns what
buried under Salesforce tasks
pressured to travel constantly

…it’s because the system wasn’t designed for you. It was designed for investors.

  1. What Employees Should Expect Next
Based on external reporting and internal patterns:

More consolidation
More pressure on CUI
More travel
More Salesforce tracking
More leadership layers
More cost-cutting
More “innovation” that’s really restructuring
More confusion

And eventually:

A public offering
A leadership shakeup
A new round of “strategic realignment”

This is the cycle.

Final Thought
Cengage isn’t dying — but it is being reshaped for Wall Street, not for employees or customers. Once you understand that, the chaos makes sense.

The pod model, the travel requirements, the collapsing divisions, the lack of support — none of it is accidental. It’s all part of the IPO playbook.

And employees deserve to know the truth.

Why?

Been here 11 years and other than Covid this is the worst things have ever been. Moving too quickly before making corrections. Its causing burn out and patients are suffering. So many mid to upper level management positions and not enough feet on the ground. I personally know around 10 people looking to get out. Best preferred place to work my butt. They are ki-ling us! It has to stop. We have so much opportunity to do good here. I want to see things through but these uppers are forcing our hand. Every sector is a sh-t show. At least we have the AI roleplays set up though!

What a joke!

This place is a f'n joke! Surplusing employees while vendors (his vendor) are adding complete unnecessary teams (and they are boasting about having him in their pocket and the promises he has made to them). This vendor rep was boasting about it this week right in the center of 7th floor. Many of us heard it! Our CIO is pushing his agenda while long term good employees getting sc--wed. When does it stop? Mark my word- we will all be gone soon. I have over two decades with T and I have never seen anything like this mess. It is not strategic, it is self motivated by our "leader".

MYCOMPUTERCAREER - WORST EMPLOYER EVER

I could not find MyComputerCareer in the Layoff website, but it should be. This company experienced regular layoffs, almost as if they were on a 2-3 year schedule. They have these values that are not upheld, love, ethics, excellence, customer first. They are a typical predatory institutiton that the DOE, DOL and DOJ should look into.

Feeling guilty for leaving

Final stage of recruitment process for another company

However I know how lean my team runs and how much me leaving will add the pressure to them all

I feel guilty even though logically I know I shouldn't and how stupid that is

I can't be the only one to deal with these emotions though, in even considering actually resigning

I like all the people I work with and my manager. Its the company direction and dysfunction that I don't believe in

Another PayPal Hire

They’ve hired another PayPal leader, and I’m honestly very happy about it. At this point, anyone would be an improvement over Tanya J. and Nancy C.

I just hope the new leader recognizes how much of the old leadership culture is still holding us back—and how slowly some teams in the digital space move.

I also hope they take a hard look at the ridiculous structure we have today, where it takes 5–6 stakeholders just to get a single button added to a digital page.

I’m really hoping this brings a meaningful cultural shift, with more accountability, faster decision-making, and a lot less bureaucracy.
