Belk’s workplace culture is antiquated and old school, as is the customer base.
The customer base is dying. Literally. Belk’s customers are kicking the bucket and there is nobody to replace them.

Does anyone know how the Retail Sector is doing at Lenovo?
Di-k's Sporting Goods is significantly scaling back its golf business. The company recently laid off over 500 PGA professionals and is now considering closing a substantial number of its Golf Galaxy stores. This move comes as Golf Galaxy's same-store sales have seen a significant decline. The restructuring has resulted in a considerable financial charge for the company in the last quarter. These changes are attributed to current and anticipated trends within the golf industry.

The retail sector has great margins and it would be another part of the supply chain owned by Nike. It’s near bottom all time valuation so it would be a great time to takeover.
Trying to understand which business unit is safer vs not at Oracle? I hear Retail business unit is almost immune this year
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there has been at least 1 Sears or Kmart closing per Year, for at least the past 2 Decades. But so fat, not a single closing in 2026.
Assuming we don't get a closing, in the next 2 Months, this has to be the first such Year in quite a while, no? I can't think of a single Year since about 2006, that contained ZERO Kmart, or Sears, closings. 🤔
I am former Nike employee.
And you can see why Nike stock is marching towards $20s.
Shopping the product is not easy.

Has anyone else’s store become a hotbed of returns? Some days returns outpace sales significantly.
I have a question I have over 40 years of experience as a meat cutter! When coming to Sam's club they didn't have a position available so I'm a floor partner they just had a meat cutter retire they offered me a meat cutting position. Ask about the pay they said around 18 to $19 an hour I thought Sam's club pay their meat cutters more than that. Especially if you have experience. I have five more years before I retire so I'm trying to make the most money I can for retirement. Grocery stores pay more money than that for meat cutters! Does anybody know if this is true or not can somebody please give some feedback!!
this is KARMA. Next is Dow Jones 30, Nike can't justify for being there after results that they put last few years.
As all the S&P100 mutual funds and pension funds that follow S&P 100 strategy have to dump Nike and buy new member that has been selected. So stock might see selling pressure in near term. Not today but but near term any increase in price might get selling pressure.
As for me, I am doing fine with my retail shoe business with comfort shoes like Brooks, Hoka and Skechers. Skechers with their shoes in $60 to $75.00 range, they are doing real well and in auto pilot. Initially, I took a big hit since Nike was 60 percent of my sale.
But if Nike approached me and said that they will reopen me, I would answer by showing a universal sign of NO, my middle finger.
So all the people in this board that has been laid off or about to, I emphasize with you.
It was rough 1 year but my life is much better now then under Nike
I have done extensive research about the F200, the top 200 locations out of the 350 that Macy's is keeping open past 2029, or the 2028 fiscal year in which they have expanded the Bold New Chapter Plan until.

These are 183 stores confirmed to be part of the F200 list that Macy's is invested in. If anyone has any thoughts about stores that are omitted or some that need to be removed, let me know. If you work at one of these stores, but feel that sales have been slowing down a little, let me know also. (An employee told me about slow sales for the Pearland location that is supposedly F125). This is not some Macys corporate social experiment but I am actually researching so let me know any thoughts about this list.
All in all, the some stores in F125 may need to be in NN75, and vice versa, but these 180 or so stores all definitely part of the F200 list that they are invested in.
I have counted to be 183, tho I may be wrong.
It's beyond a disgrace; how low can you go. Begging for shots to customers to keep the community healthy YET sell cigarettes is that for the health too? Begging for credit cards. Blow up birthday balloons that don't sell. What FOOLS. Beyond embarrassing. What a pathetic company.
I’m reading there are supposed to be more layoffs in October for management in retail stores. Does anyone have any details on this?
How did this exit not happen sooner?
All retail is becoming part-time, open availability, and no benefits. Even fast food pays better now.

I know it's pathetic, but I hear it all the time about employees in my neighboring departments about their million-dollar stock portfolios, their private jet excursions to private islands on their days off, lavish lifestyle. But they just work at Lowe's because they just like to be around the people. Sound familiar? Chime in.
I feel as if this company has lost all credibility and respect. It’s become a laughing stock of the retail industry. I’m sorry folks, that’s just how I feel at this point.
Haters may not want to read this...
This proves how smart Eddie is. Why continue to run a bunch of dumpy brick and mortar stores that lose money, when he can see his products online and through other retailers? The transformation is nearly complete.

Omaha Steaks is ceasing its restaurant distribution operations as part of a strategic business model shift. This change necessitates local restaurants finding new meat suppliers, likely at increased prices. The company is also expanding its retail presence with new locations nationwide. Approximately two percent of the company's employees were affected by layoffs. Many laid-off workers are seeking internal transfer opportunities.

Verizon is selling 274 company-owned stores to franchise operators. This move will impact approximately 3,000 employees, including store staff and corporate positions. The company is eliminating about 500 corporate roles as part of this reorganization. While store employees may be hired by new operators, there is no guarantee of employment. This follows previous job cuts and a significant layoff announced last year.

So are they done with stores, if not what’s the final number and time frame?
Belk Market. Store within a store?
North lake Mall Charlotte.
Will this concept work? I thought the whole idea was to have a smaller freestanding market concept OUTSIDE of malls, not on the second floor of an already existing store??
Every retail in the US seems to have inconsistent stock. Canada gets new beyblades sooner than US, how is that even possible? Why doesn't your marketing team do a better job at advertising the brand and letting know the beyblade community when the new releases are hitting the street? Can't be that hard, right?
Various roles within target creative were cut today with 60 days notice. Remember when people were proud to work for Target? Seems like a fever dream now
Laid off. sh---y severance. option to stay with Tmobile and transition into retail again. Final day is sept 1st. Good luck boys
You folks were not even good at selling... once you get laid off or fired.. good luck getting a job.
They will look at your resume and be like.. oh you signed in people to the queue, you gave credits to accounts, you "managed time sheets", you put things in digital lockers...
LOL
Useless position and no future.
Managers in retail are starting to step down after this last round of cuts.
Sales have been in a steady decline for several years. Customers are buying less, spending less, and coming back less. Our foot traffic has halved in the last 12 months. I was certain we'd be closed in the latest wave, and yet we're still here. How bad is it in other stores if we're still standing?
https://bucksco.today/2026/07/kmart-fairless-hills-warehouse-closing-147-jobs/
You heard it here first. Belk is in early stages of discussing implementation of universal scheduling. What is universal scheduling? Well, everyone, and this means EVERYONE that works at the store level will be required to work a mix of morning, mid, and closing shifts. Store managers, support, housekeeping, HR
included. Soon, only day shifts (8–4) (7-3), (9-5) will be strictly prohibited. What if you can’t or are unable to work closing shifts? then it’s aidios!
H&M will be laying off 76 employees at its corporate office in New York City on September 4th. This decision is a part of a larger strategy to improve operational flexibility and efficiency within the company. The company acknowledged the significant impact of these changes on affected employees. H&M stated its commitment to providing support and resources during this transition period. This move reflects ongoing adjustments in the retail sector's corporate structures.

The Nike by Louisville store at Oxmoor Center has permanently closed its doors. This closure occurred on July 13 after approximately three years of operation. The reason for the shutdown has not been officially disclosed by the company or mall representatives. This marks another retail location closure for Nike, following weaker earnings reports and other market exits. The company's only remaining Louisville-area store is now the factory outlet in Simpsonville.
Louisville, Ky.

Here's a pet peeve. Why isn't company policy being enforced? Company policy explicitly says that 2 people must be in the store at all times. Why is this policy not being enforced? And why are DL's conveniently looking the other way on this? Strictly following this policy would help a lot, because then corporate would see how bad things really are when they see the amount of stores that would open late and close early every day.
Walmart recently announced layoffs impacting approximately 1,000 corporate employees as part of a global operational streamlining. These workforce changes are occurring as the retail giant continues to aggressively integrate artificial intelligence across its business. While the company states these are organizational adjustments, employees report increased pressure and concerns over AI-driven initiatives. Despite these layoffs, Walmart remains the world's largest private employer with 2.1 million associates globally. Shareholder proposals addressing AI's impact on worker well-being have been rejected.
