IRS moves 1,000 IT employees out of its tech shop

The IRS is moving about 1,000 IT employees out of its tech shop, as part of a reorganization plan that’s been underway for months.

Impacted employees say they have few details about what work they’ll be doing, and have been told by the agency to instead “focus on completing an orderly transition of your current work.” The notice they received last week states that they will no longer be working on IRS IT projects.

Toxic reorg!

Worst reorg ever!
2 weeks in and no all clear, no conference calls letting you know what's happening. 4 cryptic emails that made about as much sense as Athina getting promoted. No maps of the new structure, just some covert calls letting some people see the details, HR controlling the invitee list. The names of those we lost trickle out slowly usually by a full mailbox on Outlook or an extended vacation status. No relief to the stress caused by uncertainty, rumors already flying about Februarys next slash job. Dead weight is still employed good people let go a dozen days before Christmas! Lopsided top tier brass still clueless, off shoring still in play, cr-ppy raise and bonus is your reward for another year of trying to stay afloat!

Winning! Another reorg

Vteamers - we are winning! The same leadership team that’s been around for decades and was key to our current market position is energized and excited to bring you another reorg! We look forward to continued chaos and lack of accountability (key hallmarks of nonstop reorgs) to lead us into the future. So fill out those pulse surveys and get in your volunteer hours because it’s the only thing we actually track. We love you, vteam!

Jingle Shell, Jingle Shell

My hope for 2026 is that Shell finally sticks with a reorg and gives it proper time to play out. No more knee-je-k layoffs and asset sales every 6-12 months. If you have to change course that often you don’t know what you’re doing.
Could also work on staff appreciation and driving the share price up but I won’t hope for that much.

Reorg and more work

Every time we go thru these reorganization of markets and job, All they do is run lean and assign more work to their employees who are already overworked, stretched thin and under paid. They never give any more compensation for the extra work and when you call the speak up line, nothing ever gets done. What a joke this company has turned into. You want to cut the fat, Cut all the fat from Ram Krishnan and his entourage who spent hundreds of thousands dollars travel the world like he is running for president. He has done absolutely nothing good for the company!!!! I can think of past leaders who didn’t travel and had a bigger impact than this joker. We have to many layers of management in the facilities and nobody holds ANYBODY accountable. Cut the extra layers and have plant directors who hold people accountable and maybe we can get this company back to number one. Maybe if they actually talked to real people in The round table meetings and not their staged puppets, they would get real talk with real issues in the facilities. This used to be a great company and people carried but now it is a joke and we come just for a paycheck. Turn it around, get employee involvement and get us to actually care again and we can make it great.

Re-org at Strategy & Transformation. Head of UX Design dismissed!

Head of UX Design at Strategy & Transformation was dismissed this week. Role terminated immediately. He clearly won’t be missed considering his reputation and poor legacy. What other senior roles at S&T were impacted this week?

Someone forgot their ethics training

"Three people familiar with the reorganization said the unit's investment committee was reduced to two members: Tan, and Intel's Chief Financial Officer, David Zinsner"

"Two employees familiar with the matter said some within Intel felt pressure to consider portfolio companies where Tan had an interest to align with his strategic priorities."

mangers think it’s bad union associates think it’s terrible company will never recover so poorly run

So seeing all the disorganized reorganization going on in management.Wondering just what’s in store for us at the bottom of the pole .We are in a contract year yet have heard nothing more then there was no early agreement.I mean as I sit looking at the cost to live in northeast I realize that everyone is acting like we make so much but in reality just surviving!!Difference is we don’t get some huge golden parachute. The pension is peanuts m.Maybe it was worth something years ago currently with gatt rate it’s not worth more then few years salary if that .The company has already spent years sc rew I g Us .Now th y really wanna deal us the death blow .So anyone thinking this is just a management dilemma.Think Again. Were next .So stop kiss A$$ and start asking so what’s going on with our contract coming up

So, what exactly is the plan?

Is the plan that there’s still no plan?

It feels like a step backward to add more friend of a friend C-suite serial consulters instead of trying to invest in reversing the trend of accelerating employee burnout and churn. It’s starting to spread to CS/net technicians who are usually somewhat isolated from the corporate tumult.

Are they just trying to get some more pals paid before the next buyout comes?

I have an idea for EH

Stop reorging every 6 months. Stick to one organizational model, have a resilient plan that you can stick to for at least 24 months. All of these constant changes erodes motivation, creativity and our trust in the leadership. Help us build the brand and create sick products that will sell .

Stop reacting too much about the short term. Have a vision, share it and follow it.

Cisco should have been #1 in Collab

Cisco should have dominated Collaboration. Back in 2004 they bought Dynamicsoft, which had the best VoIP engineers in the world, bar none. So where did all of that go? Only very poor leadership could waste an advantage like that.

Cisco could have doubled its stock price during the pandemic, but it gave the market away to Zoom after years of constant layoffs. The ELT seems unable to do much else. Even when a team is performing well, they still reorganize it to the point of damage, as if success itself is something they do not trust.

End of an Era - ABU IT

Today, the last few remaining engineers in ABU IT were stood down, following the end of their transition roles.

This brings to an end a horribly protracted period of uncertainty that started early in 2024 with McKinsey moving into 1TE to try and find ways for ABU to reduce costs, which than spiralled into one of the most disorganised and chaotic re-orgs many have ever witnessed. It finally ended with respected and talented veterans of the company not only being notified of their impending termination in June, but having to awkwardly serve out several months training their replacements in India.

Almost two years later from when rumours of layoffs began circulating in earnest, they are now complete.

ABU IT is now half of what it was, barely 50 people for a business unit that generates a third of the company’s revenue. A business unit that extracts the state’s natural resources for profit whilst seeking to give back as little as possible.

All that remains now of the IT teams that helped build two of Chevron’s most complex facilities are a handful of telecoms/PCN people, the skeletal remains of data and insights, some project managing paper-pushing types, digital core, and some of the most ineffectual and disengaged middle managers and hi-pots imaginable.

There is no longer a single software or data engineer in ABU.

Chevron are doomed to fail.

My Life After Layoff; Building Something New

I was laid off at USB over a year ago. After 10 years of service working from home, it all ended with a 1 minute and 34 second phone call. For weeks I kept Googling “US Bank layoffs” just to feel like I wasn’t alone. The searches always brought me here to The Layoff, and amidst the rants and raves, I never felt alone (and I still visit every week).

The months that followed were rough. Interviews went nowhere, and applications disappeared into a black hole. In May I finally landed a role with another bank. Life has been good since, but working full-time in an office created new challenges: endless politics, meaningless small talk, and a cubicle that feels like a creative prison.

A couple months ago, while taking a juicy dump on the executive floor (it just feels so right), I had an idea: A platform where current and former employees can anonymously share stories about the good, bad, and ugly moments inside their companies. I call it WorkWhisper. Right now, it’s a webapp, but I plan to expand to iOS/Android if it grows.

Ultimately, I'm convinced that my life will continue and end inside of a cubicle (and face more layoff scares), but if what I was inspired to build helps a few people voice their feelings, then I'm happy. I hope this doesn't come across as an inauthentic way to promote myself, that wasn't the intention. I just wanted to share my journey about life after layoff at USB, and the good that came out of it. If you’d like to check it out, visit www.TheWorkWhisper.com and share a work moment... the uglier the better ;)

Is anybody really on the know with any real details?

I’m hearing December 1st, 8th, 15th, layoffs have already started, re-org is coming, 1NA is coming, sending jobs to Russia, sending jobs to Mexico, 3000 layoffs, he-l somebody even said 20%+ which would mean 60k+ employees and would be the biggest layoff in American history for a single company.

Does anybody have any solid information on real December layoffs or restructuring and what groups are impacted. Frontline? Managers? Division, HQ? Etc.
