9/24 One Year Anniversary

Today marks the one year anniversary date for those laid-off on 9/24/2025.

It was a shocking day! It brought out the reality that HCSC along with manny employers have no respect or appreciation for its employees as a corporation. It confirmed the end of an era of devoted employees.

Hopefully those let go have been able to find a new job or officially retire comfortably. Those who continue to work hopefully it is a good job. Then there are those who found a job, but are still really looking.

For those employees still working at HCSC, maybe think about messaging someone you know who was let go on this day. Checking in on them could do wonders in boosting their morale on this horrible day of memory.

Q3 Results

Layoffs will be strategic and calculated to coincide with quarterly results. Poor results creates justification to “restructure”. The current unofficial hiring freeze will help with some of that.

Rumors about R&D, on prior post, are mostly accurate.

The post on Elliot involvement is mostly accurate as well.

Post on 9/20 layoffs is not accurate.

Post on salaries is mostly accurate and gives good perspective

Post on smiles week is the best thing i have read all year.

Post on FIFA spend, not sure but that’s a lot of money wasted if Q3 earnings are bad. (And they won’t hold the decision makers on that accountable)

See you in the welfare line friends!

More RTO reporting for managers

We were told there is a renewed call for MN and DC offices rto. Managers will get more reporting and will have employees on it that are 3.5 days per week or less in a rolling 12 week period.

My read: this is another marker that will determine who gets put on future rif list

McClatchy Lays Off Hundreds Amid AI Debate

McClatchy recently implemented significant layoffs, impacting over ninety unionized media workers across seventeen publications. These cuts occurred despite recent union contract gains that included provisions for artificial intelligence. The affected newsrooms experienced varying degrees of staff reduction, with some losing multiple reporters. The role of AI in future operations remains uncertain, though company investments suggest its continued integration. Journalists are closely monitoring for any AI-driven replacements for laid-off staff, which could violate union agreements.

Northern Virginia Sees Significant Job Cuts

Job losses in Northern Virginia increased by nearly 50% this summer compared to the previous year. This rise was largely due to layoffs at General Dynamics and Bechtel Power Corporation. Bechtel Power Corporation alone cut 200 jobs at its Reston location. Overall, 451 job losses were announced between June and September. The state also experienced a nearly 50% increase in job losses.

Suggestion for future layoffs.

People at executive level should be targeted due to poor performance and outages.

As a member of the dwindling on-shore technical staff, the most recent events have caused us so many headaches at the Global Operation Centre.

I have very little confidence in our off-shore tech staff and constantly have to bail them out of trouble. While most of them probably mean well, those staff lack real training, are paid a fraction (apparently around 10%) of what we are paid in Australia and most don't seem to have any pride or purpose in the work that they do. Many of them have told me privately that they would prefer to migrate to Australia so they can earn a better salary.

Instead of sending jobs overseas, the company should be employing more local school leavers.

I am hoping to be made redundant soon. I have maxed out my redundancy payout.

Has anyone heard rumors that medical costs may be a factor in VZ's layoff selections?

i've read here claims that because vz's is self-insured for medical covrage employees with higher recent or ongoing medical costs could potentially be viewed differently during workforce reductions. people were talking about chronic conditions recent hospital stays or having a baby shortly before a layoff.

i've also heard anecdotal reports that in at least one group affected by the last layoffs several of the people let go had significant recent medical expenses or ongoing medical issues. age was also mentioned but supposedly salary level did not appear to explain the pattern.

i have no way to verify whether any of this is actually connected to layoff decisions and correlation obviously does not prove that medical information was used.

has anyone else heard anything similar or seen patterns in their own group? especially interested in firsthand observations rather than speculation.

Severance Payment Date

I just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on the current wait for payment.

For those who had a 09/04 release date, I signed my agreement on the same day. I know there’s a 7-day revocation waiting period, and after that, they say it can take another 1–2 pay periods to receive the payment.

I know it may be wishful thinking, but I’m really hoping we get paid on 09/25 rather than having to wait almost a month without pay. 😅 Rent is due!

What does everyone think? Are we thinking 09/25, or are we more likely looking at 10/09?

Florida - Supervisor Operations

Thanks!
