Did anyone return their laptop and phone? I was told that someone would reach out to me about sending my stuff back to IT, but that never happened.

Severance check cleared, so I guess I will just give the phone to my kid and trash the bricked laptop.

I heard that all contractors currently have 11/30 as the last day for their contract and leadership hasn’t communicated with any of the contracting companies about extensions.

Anyone know if this is management being slow to communicate, or if we’re going to cut all the contractors loose in a month?

Whatever the pros and cons of using contractors instead of hiring FTEs, the reality is there are teams that have a lot of contractors on them (especially in IT) who are going to have trouble absorbing the workload if those people disappear in a month.

I guess that assumes any of us will be here, sure. But setting that aside, is this a de facto layoff or is there some other plan?

Full disclosure I’m still here at CVX but I have been on the job search, aggressively i might add, since January. It will be nearly a year soon. Still not 1 offer or even a single final round. Any SWE type people find anything recently? I genuinely don’t know WTH is going on nor what to do anymore.. I have an Ivy League EE degree, 6 YOE, impressive GitHub, i can shoot the sh-t w people, etc…. Plz someone give me hope. I’ve even looked at technical sales or consulting roles and there’s no bites. I’ve expanded my geographies to legitimately every U.S. state and even some European metros. Ive made it to 2nd or 3rd rounds only to be ghosted, EVERY SINGLE TIME. Not a single final round… Doesn’t matter if i had a referral and great convos with the teams. D-mbfounded. I don’t understand. Is it just over for me? Like WTH happened? Anyone else in the same boat ?? I’m losing it yall.

Or it is still a piece of garbage?

1. Stop with all the daily emails and invites to countless town halls from VP to SVP levels and above. We don’t need Up 2 Speed Videos. Give me the daily Newsletter with more details about the whole company.
2. Stop letting HR change their platforms and Learning / UpSkilling strategy. A company should invest in their employees, but have a single strategy of what is available, clear pathways and keep it perm long enough for Employees to partake. The “Leadership” program was the biggest waste of my time, taking me away from projects to listen to Hosts / Instructors who never achieved anything of significance at Vz.
3. Have one IT Dept. we have had such a brain drain that most applications and enhancements now live in a black box no one knows how to fix when it breaks. Hire perm Project Managers, real PMO professionals who can guide our big projects over the line, and do so in a single platform instead of every PM deciding how they want to Run / Communicate or Document projects.

so far so good today. but... are we just left for latter and will there be a massive cut within these groups as well? i kind of have a feeling that we have been sloted for a later cut but i am basing this only on my personal gut feeling and i do not have any insder information. i was talking to one director level person and she thinks that we'll be fine but i am unsure if i should trust this. i am not too concerned but given how crazy all of this i'd say anything is possible.

In the never-ending pursuit of saving money, the IT department has lost two more critical employees in favor of steering more work to the offshore folks. Best of luck communicating with FSC and getting any help at all now. The IT group was already operating on a skeleton crew. Not sure what Follett leadership is doing but they've managed to confuse everyone on the company's future.

How come no one is talking about the recent IT layoffs?

For the stockholders!!! TI has performed an almost annual Disaster Recovery exercise to practice recovering their Major Data Centers in the event of a catastrophe (eg, Tornado in Lewisville, Tx / Fire / Major Infra collapse etc). This year (2025), after cutting their IT service staffing to the bare bones in capability, they had to postpone their DR exercise because there were not enough personnel available to hold the activity. If they cannot do a practice exercise, how are they going to recover from a real disaster?

Typically logging into the Windows work profile does the trick, but today there was an extra step to log into Outlook. A few others mentioned this as well, but it didn’t happen to every person on our team.

This is the easy cut, the next phase will be in tech. Target plans to outsource all of tech, engineering, and security, what does not get moved to India will be outsourced to a contract here in the US. So this is just the start, pretty much everyone in IT in MN will eventually loos their jobs.

I understand we should not have personal documents on work laptop but if you have them, how are you transferring them? Is email the best way to go

I sent several legitimate personal documents to my own email today and noticed something in my Mac Finder under “locations” I’ve never seen before.

Has anyone nothing a horrible smell on all floors in Alpharetta..? It’s really distracting but especially the second and fourth floor. Maybe because that’s tech and IT and the people are overworked? It’s a mix of body odor and unwashed clothes. Very distracting and I’m thinking they just don’t have time or energy to bathe daily or laundry. Idk but I want to work home so bad the smell is extremely distracting from work and I often go to break room or work on patio just to get away.

My laptop is so slow ALL THE TIME and WF makes it so difficult to get a new or better one. What laptop model do you have and does it work? Any tips?

Can someone in IT who's been here a long time explain what the problem really is in your opinion and if there's a way out of our current problematic situation or is it a lost cause. I'm genuinely curious. I've heard some takes but looking for a more convincing answer.

Marriott is being hush hush about exactly how many, but HUGE cuts are happening. Notifications to those affected this week, new postings this month, and those that don't get offers are out Jan 2. An entire IT department is going from 40+ to 4, North America reservation centers closing and consolidating leadership, HR, and support teams, support above center is being gutted. Not Mr. Marriott's vision at all. 😔

Just look at the sheer volume of IT GR10s + with their report or dashboard’s broken with bad data asking some poor Engineer about their wrong data. What a waste of time. Why are these people employed? LBT fixed nothing

The new leadership has no clue what they are doing and destroyed the department. Hiring all mid-level execs and firing the workers. This week they are laying off 125ish people and told all IT to stay home until you are told if you have a job. What courage.
