Are we riffing 15000 employees to pay for Frontier? Does the deal make financial sense with Verizon’s debt burden?

This is more than employees being riffed
This round is employees. Next round The Company is literally eliminating groups. Any business that's been struggling to make money is gone. They make no money in advertising because yahoo was a failure, they make no money in fleet, no money in video they failed at TV and the streaming business, no money in international business, no money in cyber security, no money in government contracts
Dan is focused on being a wireless phone company with hopes of AI bringing new ideas to the table. The old ideas are going to be eliminated
OpenAI won't buy Intel's AI chips
OpenAI has been making it rain infrastructure deals. The AI startup just dropped another $38 billion on Amazon Web Services, adding to agreements with Oracle, Microsoft, AMD, and a plethora of other deals that total over $1 trillion this year so far. But there's one company conspicuously missing from the invite list to this very expensive party. Intel, the former belle of the Silicon Valley ball, is now watching everyone else dance.
So when OpenAI came knocking in 2017, hat in hand, asking Intel to invest in their fledgling AI startup, Intel said no thanks. Why would the king of computing need to bet on some nonprofit's sci-fi dreams?
Now, Intel is the one begging for a seat at the table while OpenAI doesn't seem to be interested.
"Why go back to a firm that has an inferior product and also snubbed you?" said Tim Derdenger, an associate professor at Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business.

Julie needs Cash Flow
This is 100%. The layoff is not because AI is magically changing things, or because clients need less work. The nature of work is changing, projects are smaller and more focused. But, behind all of this is the need for free cashflow which can be achieved through higher sales (not going to happen) or cut in expenses (it's happening right now). She needs cash to finance AI infrastructure build out, and the only way to find the $$$ is to cut people. She has no other options (ok, she can go in debt, but that's always bad). So, she's repeating the same thing that AWS (30K cuts), MSFT (25K cuts), META (20K Cuts) and others are doing.
I wish all of us good luck.

The best-performing current AI agents achieve an automation rate of 2.5%, failing to complete most projects at a level that would be accepted as commissioned work in a realistic freelancing environment. This demonstrates that despite rapid progress on knowledge and reasoning benchmarks, contemporary AI systems are far from capable of autonomously performing the diverse demands of remote labor.

SMB B2B Account Managers On the Chopping block?
Hearing a lot of rumors and basically no department is safe, no position is safe. November 20 is the date I’m seeing and hearing, But I am hearing more than anything that SMB is really on the chopping block. What do we think is going to happen to SMB and B2B? Restructure or just completely cut the channels out and have store reps and managers take care of business?

The Rise of NVIDIA(new): From Graphics Pioneer to AI Powerhouse
Founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem, NVIDIA began as a graphics processing company focused on improving video game visuals. Verizon has moved on from plans to acquire cable companies
#BUSINESS NEWS SEPTEMBER 14, 2017 / 10:29 AM
(Reuters) - Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N) said on Thursday that it has moved on from plans to acquire cable companies and instead will focus on building out its own fiber infrastructure.
Speculation over a tie-up with Charter Communications Inc (CHTR.O) was building up after Chief Executive Lowell McAdam told Wall Street analysts last year that such a deal would make “industrial sense”.
McAdam said on Thursday at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference that Verizon is more interested in building up its fiber infrastructure.
“We did, I guess, about a year ago, go through a process of taking a look at cable companies. But the fiber infrastructure isn’t there,” McAdam said.
In April, Verizon agreed to buy optical fiber from Corning Inc (GLW.N) for at least $1.05 billion over the next three years to improve its network infrastructure.
McAdam said at the conference on Thursday the company would be acquiring content for its Oath business and a content deal is expected by the end of September.
Verizon bought Yahoo’s core business for $4.48 billion in 2016. It then combined Yahoo with AOL to form a venture called Oath.
McAdam said the company expects cost savings of $10 billion over four years from operating expenses and capital expenses, which would fund their dividends in 2022.
Shares of the company were marginally down at $47.06 in morning trading.
