If I get laid off the first week of January, do I still get a bonus, or nah?

@p2 I'm curious if the new policy applies to the payout in Feb 2026 of my 2025 performance bonus or if that still falls under the old plan meaning I can resign in January and be on a notice period come bonus payday in Feb . guess I can submit an inquiry to hr

@qb this is correct and any list stating otherwise is false. while I'll admit the language in the recent hr email can be confusing, it is quite clear the changes apply only to those who voluntarily resign and are subject to a notice period. if you are laid off, same rules as always apply.

Again, these comments are wrong. Nothing has changed for displaced employees. They were always eligible for a bonus if considered an active employee on 9/30 and will also be in 2026. The clarification was for employees that have resigned- you will NOT be considered for a bonus if working during a required notice period. This applies to VP, SVPs, Directors, etc that are required to give at least a 30 day notice upon resignation. So if you resign on 2/1, you will not be given your bonus even though you will still be an employee on bonus payout because you are serving a notice period.

The new policy language goes into effect for 2026. Beginning in 2026, you need to be employed on the payout date, the notice period is explicitly excluded going forward - making it much worse for employees.

If you dig into the document “displaced US employees are eligible for a bonus” however it says you “may” receive a bonus. It’s purely discretionary & let’s be honest probably not happening. It’s phrased so that’s it’s not required.

Apparently, nobody on this forum read the email HR sent out recently about updated discretionary incentive eligibility. You now have to be employed as of the date of pay. It no longer applies to people on notice periods.

Was sent out last week.

The bonus goes to your mgr and his favorites...that is part of the reason for lay-off. It is a dog eat dog culture. I lost mine so mgr could give promotions, bigger bonus and then I ended up fired.

You need to read the exceptions in the appendix. The policy changed but there are additional details that make it even more confusing.

I did not see an email before the holidays. If I didn’t get one, does that mean I am now ‘eligible’. I brought this up to my manager a couple of times and he was vague.

An email before the holidays modified the policy... and you are no longer eligible if you get noticed prior to the date of payout.

So much wrong info in these comments. Yes, you would be eligible for a bonus considering you worked the entire year. The date of eligibility is 9/30. You would be eligible for a bonus even if you were not on a notice period and on severance, or even off severance if you were an active employee on 9/30. And yes, you are considered an active employee when in your notice period.

I don’t care if I get laid off as long as I get laid, and not with Juan in maintenance.

You get your bonus if you work for full 2025. highly doubt if there are any layoffs before bonus payout. heard layoffs start in February.

No. You must be “Active” the date of payout. If you get laid off in January you are no longer considered active. Notice is not active. Sorry
