Science Centre Eliminates Core Unit Amid Staff Cuts

The Ontario Science Centre has laid off 31 employees, according to the union representing them. These job reductions have reportedly eliminated the centre's standalone science unit. The provincial government stated these changes are part of a plan to deliver science learning experiences at new locations. They also indicated that new roles would be created, with some available to affected individuals. The union expressed strong disapproval, questioning the purpose of a science centre without a science unit.

Where is Enrique?

Does he still work at PayPal? What are his hours? Will he grace us again with his words of wisdom? Interviewed like he’s on a talk show?

Seriously this guy is the worst leader. He’s leaving the management up to everyone else, and everyone has the same questions. You would think that after a layoff he would get up in front of the company and talk about the next steps. Get everyone excited again.

WHERE ARE YOU ENRIQUE?!? You asked for this de-layering but nothing has changed for you.

No more NRE means more PIPs for everyone

Supervisor here. There was an unspoken agreement between employees and supervisors that when people were NRE we would put them in NSI to protect the team as a whole. Most employees were ok with this. Now that NRE is gone if we put the NRE engineers in NSI they will lose their retiree benefits so we are forced to put younger people in NSI. Supervisors trying to figure out what to do as they keep taking away the few levers we had to make their sh---y assessment system work. Do the math. If two NSIs in 5 years means automatic firing there is no way to protect everyone. If you have a group of five people and everyone takes a turn being NSI, after year five you have to start firing people. This is what they want.

Layoffs, merit, promotions

Sr. leadership gets paid more for added responsibilities, while everyone below director gets added responsibilities for free because we’re “short on money.”
And RIP to anyone getting promoted this year and next—tiny bump now, no merit next year, and twice the work. Biggest corporate scam ever.
Hopefully those layoffs saved us a sh-t ton of money because damn.

Layoff Scale Reportedly Much Smaller Than Expected

According to some inside guess, the scale of this round of layoffs may be much smaller than originally expected. It appears that only certain departments are accelerating outsourcing to India, with just a single-digit number of U.S.-based employees being laid off, rather than the large-scale workforce reductions that had initially been anticipated.

VP's being let go or layed off

I worked as a senior director for centene for almost 9 years. There are several VPS that I would love to see handed their backside and would love to know if there is a list of VPs who have been let go, laid off, or left the company. There are several of them that I would love to see them on. The welfare line are absolutely broke. They deserve it.

Were there any warning signs before you got laid off?

I know all of us at Fiserv live under this persistent threat of a layoff looming over us, but I was wondering if there was anything in your immediate range where you thought you were going to get laid off and eventually did. What were the signs? Not enough work to do? Offshoring work? Lot of deconverted clients to sustain the business unit? Financial losses specific to the business unit? Etc. Or were any of you genuinely surprised you were targeted for the layoff.

Personally speaking I would not be surprised because there are many warning signs in close proximity to me but not just simply that Fiserv isn't doing well as a whole. Too much disruption and offshoring is what I've been seeing operationally.

How people get laid off — the untold reality beneath the surface

Those who were laid off should ask themselves why they were selected instead of someone else on their team. What was missing? Many people are complaining about how unfair it was, but you wouldn’t be in this situation if you had consistently made yourself indispensable. Too many treat the company like a home where they deserve to be taken care of. Your role is only secure if you are a difference‑maker. The fact that you were chosen because your removal doesn’t affect the team’s productivity should tell you something

If you haven’t upgraded your skills or delivered meaningful impact, you become an easy target — fair and square. And you should expect the same outcome anywhere else. You wouldn’t hire or keep a contractor for your home if they weren’t excellent, just because you liked them, especially when better quality and cost saving options exists. That’s why you read reviews before hiring one

Next week

Hi folks, I just got off a scheduled call with my very high contact. She accidentally let slip some important information pertaining to next weeks layoff rumours.

Basically she mentioned that code name “operation apocalypse” will begin on the 14th. From what I understand the plan is to reduce headcount by 30% due to ai now being good enough to replace the majority of workers.

She did mention relevant departments this could be hitting.

Likely the US and India’s mother will be the hardest hit.

I take no pleasure in delivering this information, but I felt it important to share what little I know.

Folks my advice would be to go home and hold your loved ones close until dawn. it looks like we are in for a bumpy week…I know I will be holding

How do these layoffs actually work — whole teams cut or random people?

Curious if anyone here has been through a round of layoffs and can share how it actually played out. When companies say it's "cost cutting" or "moving jobs offshore" — is it usually the entire team/department that goes, or do they pick people out individually?

Also wondering if performance ratings really matter here, or if it's more about tenure, pay level, and role redundancy. Trying to get a realistic picture rather than just guessing.

Are Layoffs Impacting Account Safety

On 10/30/2025 I was made aware that 2 withdrawals, on 10/17 and 10/21 essentially emptying my account. I immediately contacted customer service to inform them that my account had been hacked, username, password, phone and email information changed. I was told that my account was frozen and referred to the fraud department. The fraud department would be in contact with me in two weeks. On 11/19 I called again, stating that the user name and password continued to be fraudulent and I had not heard from anyone at MoA. Again my email, phone number was taken, I was told there continues to be a freeze on my account and the Fraud Department would be in touch in 2 weeks.

I contacted customer service again on 1/6/2026 stating that I have had no contact with anyone from MoA, my information appeared to still be incorrect and that I had no proof that anything further was being done to address my concerns. Again, apologies were given and I was reassured that someone would be in touch soon. I called 1/13/2026, stating that I have contacted the company numerous times with no results. On 1/15/2026 I called for the 5th time, stating that my information continued to be incorrect and that I needed to speak to someone who could offer more than apologies and the same sad script that I should be hearing from the Fraud Department shortly.

I was connected with the escalation department, who was finally able to correct my contact information. Again, I was reassured that someone from the Fraud Department would contact me within 2 days. On 1/23/2026 I contacted customer service, asking to be connected with someone who can help me. I was told that my account was still under review and there was nothing else that could be done.

This is unacceptable. This was a company run plan, for an annuity that is not due to 2030. That security was so flimsy that someone could change information without the account holder being informed via mail and then funds emptied a few days apart into 2 different bank accounts is nuts.
Claimed loss: 28,900.00

Layoff Clause Upheld by Ontario Court

The Ontario Court of Appeal has ruled that a six-month unpaid layoff did not constitute wrongful dismissal. This decision affirms a prior ruling from a lower court. The court found that a temporary layoff clause within an employment contract was valid. This legal precedent impacts how temporary layoffs are viewed in the province. The worker's challenge to the clause was unsuccessful.
