Preparation for layoff

Looking for real advice on steps to take in preparation for a possible layoff. What files/information to save, what resources to take advantage of while we still have them, etc. My biggest concern is a lack of medical and dental insurance for my family since I'm the one providing those benefits. Has anyone successfully negotiated an extension of benefits as part of their severance?

Gentex Layoffs

3 team members and 1 upper management got layoff last week in Gentex. The reason was unclear but some say its because of it might have something to do with Gentex losing 42% of its stock value in 2 years. With the Iran, US and Israel war & tariffs, the future seems pretty uncertain as the stock keeps dipping.

So definitely the yearly package for Eisp union coming soon

I can see there will be the usual suspects Eisp offered to union field soon .But all the rumors of some huge enhanced one and a blanket everyone can leave one do not seem to be materialized. It seems it’s same usual yearly Eisp offered to limited numbers.I am very shocked I really though Dan wanted to get as many people off the pay roll as possible.I am starting to think he is more concerned about the management .I am going to assume it’s because they make a much higher salary then associates.Or I just honestly have no idea what plan is ,But going to be a lot of disappointment for field techs tht were hoping to go

Adios Amigos

Today I was informed that a restructuring occurred
Your position was impacted or so I heard

To say I was surprised would be a lie
For I saw this coming in my mind's own eye

To be fired now would seem a sin
But I saw it coming. I'll take this on the chin

On day one I was told this will never last
Prepare for the worst, work hard and work fast.

I toiled and worked long hours for sure
Implementing specs, features and more

The days flew by as they do
We all go through this, we all knew

Do not feel sad for this is a new beginning
This is not the ninth, it's only the sixth inning

To the new college grads I have one request
Work hard and stay strong and be at your best

To all I have known throughout these good years.
I say to you now, be happy and of good cheer.

Ciao

Severance and unemployment

I was laid off last month and received severance. I will also apply for unemployment, and I know that unemployment doesn't start to pay until after the severance # weeks passes. Do I have to show that I'm looking for a job during that severance period, or am I able to take a break for a few weeks before starting my job search? I just want to make sure I can still qualify for unemployment in a few months if I don't start looking for a job right away. I'm in Minnesota if that matters.

Timing of Layoffs - What to Expect?

It looks like the program I've been assigned to for the past 6 years is slowly being dismantled - there is no appetite to spend time & resources on risk reduction/mitigation strategies any more.

We're expecting to hear next week if the company is truly stepping away from our effort's goals. If that ends up being the decision, how long does our team have before we:

  1. End up on the layoff list with HR
  2. Actually get notified our positions have been eliminated?
