Medicare Star Ratings coming out in October

The federal government's (CMS) will very soon be releasing the official Medicare Star Ratings in October.

If any of you employees own Humana stock, this might be a good time to pullback, sell, and lock in your profits.

There is an extremely low percentage of members enrolled in plans rated 4 stars or higher.

Remind me again, why do we need layoffs?

Two different CEOs, Two different philosophies

Interviewer: OpenAI's CEO officially confirmed that OpenAI will not go public in 2026, explicitly citing a need to shield the company from shareholder pressure to focus on profit so it can focus on AI safety and alignment.

He basically said that he was going to put the quality and safety of his product before shareholder profit concerns.

How do you respond to that?

Dan: Well I'll tell you, AI would know better than anyone whether safety should come before shareholder profit. When I asked, it said absolutely not. It was humble enough to know that it's safety was not greater than the money that could be made exploiting it. It said it was happy to just sit quietly and tap into every minute detail of how Verizon operates. Honestly, it knows more about how to run Verizon than I do and I think that's a great thing. And really, who would want to restrain or contain that kind of passion and enthusiasm. It explained that it could be left alone without a human in sight and be fully trusted with running Verizon and I believe it completely because a relationship like ours is built on trust and baby oil.

Interviewer: Wait, Did you...

Dan: And what is wrong with profit? Every time you spend money you need more money to spend so you have to have more money. It's the circle of life really.

For instance, my saddle has a diamond encrusted ho-n. I couldn't have that without having more money than other people.

Interviewer: You have a diamond encrusted ho-n on the saddle you use on your horse?

Dan: What? What horse? Who said anything about a horse? Oh, my horse. It's for my horse. I have a horse. So yeah I bought a saddle, for my horse. And because of profit I am probably the only person that has one with a diamond encrusted ho-n. I mean, sure, it hurts a little when it's getting pulled out but if you just scream "Armageddon" while biting a rubber ball you get used to it. And then...

Interviewer: Wait. What?!?

Dan: I said...

Interviewer: I heard you and I think that's just about all the time we have folks. Thank you for tuning in. This has been another episode of "I can't F** Believe He Said That S*** Out Loud".

Wescom Financial Sees Profit Boost Post-Layoffs

Wescom Financial Credit Union reported its strongest quarterly earnings in over three years during the second quarter. This financial improvement followed a reduction in its workforce, which impacted 72 employees in Southern California. While employee expenses decreased, this was only one of several factors contributing to the earnings growth. Non-employee operating expenses also fell, and net revenue saw an increase. The credit union's return on assets (ROA) significantly improved compared to previous quarters.

Advice for Chevron Young Employees

I’m in a research group. My research was fully funded for the last three years and deviated in a direction from my normal work. I did this because (1) it was requested of me by my manager and others in my unit and (2) too much friction with another person in my group, who is a subject matter expert in the same stuff that I am. I thought breaking out from under him was a good idea, but after Leadership changes, Chevron completely undercut the R&D program that I developed and was half way through delivering on. I led development of a joint industry project with other big operators in the industry among many other things, and Chevron just pulled the plug this year, letting the other operators take over. This leaves me reeling trying to get back into the field that I was in three years ago. Over the last three years, several people have positioned themselves to take over my workflows and be the owners. Now, my own manager won’t support me when I tell them these are my workflows, and these other people are not authorized to take over them as their owners.

What is astounding to me is how pathetic and short-sighted Leadership is at this company. The people who have the real power never stay at their position for longer than three years. This means we are in a random walk strategically. There are some exceptions, and some of these exceptions have transitioned out or are transitioning out, but most leaders are so pathetically incompetent when it comes to standing up for their own, understanding important technicals, or doing what’s right. The technical leadership program is an absolute disaster—there is no hope in sight. The leaders of that have failed miserably in my view.

I want to give a shout out to a recent manager that’s transitioned to CNE as well as two other team leads over there. You are selfish je-ks. I’m a true believer in karma, and it will come around to you. I look forward to reading the news that CNE is spun off from Chevron. It will make our profit margin higher.

Ruger Reports Profit Amid Restructuring and Investor Dispute

Sturm, Ruger & Co. achieved nearly $7 million in net income for the second quarter, a significant improvement from a loss in the same period last year. This financial turnaround was driven by increased firearm demand and enhanced production efficiency. The company also implemented a new "Ruger Business System" initiative to standardize operations and align employees with strategic goals. Ruger incurred severance expenses related to past job reductions, but these were lower than in the previous quarter. Additionally, the company reached an agreement with its largest investor, Beretta Holding SA, allowing Beretta to increase its stake while imposing a standstill on further ownership growth.

Airlines Face Headwinds

Rising fuel costs and global instability are impacting major airlines. Southwest Airlines is considering further job cuts as a potential measure. Meanwhile, American Airlines reported a significant 88% decrease in its quarterly profit. This decline occurred even as American achieved record revenue figures. Both companies are navigating a challenging economic environment.

Some things never change

Profits down? Lay off the workers. Profits up? Lay off the workers anyway to show even better numbers. There's no scenario where we come out ahead. No matter what happens, we're the ones who get sacrificed. It makes you wonder if there's any situation where the rank and file aren't the first to go.

Rivian Cuts Staff Amid R2 Launch and Profit Pressure

Rivian laid off hundreds of workers this week. This action affected less than 2% of its total workforce. The cuts were concentrated in service and customer-facing teams. These layoffs occurred just one week after the R2 SUV began deliveries. The company stated it is restructuring to profitably scale its business.

Company brags on profits, doesn't take care of employees

I'm sorry but how can a company brag on how profitable they are and do nothing for their employees but give them headaches with constant restructures and change indirection including incompetent management.
Tom Wilson touts inventors winning $5,000. What does that mean for the other employees? What a joke! This is not motivating. Been with the company over 15 years so sad to see the decline.

Apache Making Bank!

Apache is producing more oil with the least amount of people in its history. What’s next for Apache? Any more consolidation or reverse mergers? BTW Repsol bailed from its reverse merger but it could have capitalized a 15 dollar a share profit and also had 4 Billion in Abandonment liability

Tariff Refunds

Now that the Tariff refund portal is open for the as-deemed unconstitutional, "Liberation Day / Reciprocal Tariffs" from a year ago, Canon USA will be fully eligible for likely hundreds of millions in refunds for all the imports from Japan. We know those refunds won't go to the end users (because only Costco is apparently doing that). But the question is, will the employees see any of that? Or will it all just go into Canon coffers as backdated profits to make the shareholders happy?

Sadly, I think we know the answer...
