March 2026 Layoffs

More layoffs at end of March 2026 after a previous round earlier this year. After being told no more layoffs, thee were apparently still more needed. Approximately 35-40 invited to a conference call and let go effective same day, and many with substantial years of service. I do know of at least 1 other person from another department that was not included in my group, but was laid off, so not really sure just how many were actually laid off company-wide in this round. A reason in the separation paperwork I received was that the company was going to be moving more work offshore - assuming to India like the other jobs offshored in the past. Perhaps not everyone's reason, but that's what my paperwork mentioned.

Engineering Cut

I see some groups had engineering cut heavily. This is typically a very bad sign especially when the 'process' professionals who mostly bring no value and simply get in the way of innovation (at this company) remained unscathed. The budget cut requirements could have been serviced by dealing with those groups while giving innovation in engineering a chance going forward. There was a belief this was a Mark B. policy but clearly that is not the case as this goes right to the board and IS the business model. Time to accept that.

Apps: SSE’s expect 25-30% reduction. Prime reps expect 10-15% reduction. SE are safe. March 31.

Performance based. Attainment and manager reviews. Some teams will lose more than others. Most managers were sent a list of 2-3 “qualifying reps.” Were able to use some discretion with who they selected from that list, based on their required reduction. Ie. Maybe 3 names were provided but they only had to choose 1. But higher ups have final say. March 31 is confirmed happening in USA. Very stressful week. Not every team will have to cut.

Bizarre is the right word here

Optimizing DL Roles with AI Efficiency

The new AI visit tool is effectively handling much of the DL's workload. As a result, we could expand the number of stores per district, and downsize the number of DLs in the FS by at least one or two per region. The payroll savings from this reduction could be reinvested into increasing hours in the FS, where actual customer-facing work occurs.

XOM Strategic Workforce Planning - Case Study for a failed organization

ExxonMobil will be a case study for how not to do strategic workforce planning. All of the HR Talent management programs are being put together to deliver the lowest cost organization for the long term which is very different to an organization that can continue to deliver. Give it 5years and the organization will be unable to deliver. The HR Leadership team don’t realize the impact of losing our friends in Canada, Australia, UK, Malaysia, Europe and there’s more to come. India is the future but not going to deliver what the organization needs or wants. BIg bet is a gamble for the future. Get our now

Layoffs expected on the 30th or 31st based on recent pattern

Same pattern as before. Layoffs started in Mexico, then move to USA/IDC the following week.

This week, layoffs in Mexico happened on 3/25 and 3/26, cutting about 15.46% of the workforce.

This round seems larger than before since it took two days to complete.

If you want to verify, check the not-mdc-social channel. You can see the dates, pattern, and posts from people affected. Also compare with the previous layoff pattern across Mexico, IDC, and USA.

Let me know if your data shows something different.

70/30 Is not true

I just had a candid conversation with band 5 director offline. They said no on-shore hiring at all, first look for HIH if you can't find there, then contract one of the vendors. Some of the vendors already moved to fixed bid and to provide unlimited resources, i.e. whether you get 5 contractors or 10, the pay will be set once, fixed. The goal is not 70 HIH and 30 On shore, it's way less, only select managers will be around supervising HIH - When are we going to stop this? do we even have a government that cares about American workers anymore.

When they close the big offices guess what?

They may no longer be obligated to WARN in those states locations with 50+ employees, so VZ won't have to pay the additional money to keep them around doing nothing for a extra 30 or 60 days. It makes it cheaper to do layoffs after this is done, harder to count and trigger the thresholds.

Don't expect layoffs to stop any time soon

This isn't ending anytime soon. They've been cutting consistently through the last several years and that seems to have turned into a business strategy. They're not even trying to hide it anymore. If numbers need to look better, why bother with trying to come up with something long-term and business related when you can simply cut people and have it all align nicely on that spreadsheet?

How is this even possible?

I went to see how much the workforce has shrunk over the years due to layoffs and I found this:

2025 162,000
2024 159,000
2023 164,000
2022 143,000
2021 132,000
2020 135,000
2019 136,000
2018 137,000
2017 138,000
2016 136,000
2015 132,000
2014 122,000
2013 120,000
2012 115,000
2011 108,000

With the constant cuts, how the he-l do we have more employees than almost ever before?
