HQ Preview California Style

New location in El Segundo, CA opened today and from what I understand the basic setup follows what they did in Atlanta and plan to do in Dallas.

The good:

  • Compared to the increasingly dumpy and dreary space we left (the old DIRECTV hq), the building and facilities are a legit improvement
  • Sit-stand desks are nice.

The bad:

  • Layout could only have been designed by people who have their own offices. It''s open plan slop everyone hates. You can hear every conversation and teams call. The old space, while dumpy, had decent personal space and a modicum of privacy. Great environment for doing focused work. But there is pickleball!!!
  • Of course, the geniuses continue with the no assigned seats policy. Yes, there are "neighborhoods" but they didn't have enough seats so people in some groups had to use overflow space. You can toss the collaboration BS out the window.
  • Everyone got new chairs, which should be nice except that the seat backs are hard plastic, like you're sitting in the upper deck at a football game. They're going to need to swap the onsite shrink with a chiropractor. Back was ki-ling me by the end of the day. And these cheapo imitations of Herman Miller chairs will be the standard across the company. At least the VPs have the same chairs.

So basically, this isn't awful but coming here is still completely pointless. A fresh coat of paint and pickleball can't fix stupid.

Toxic Culture! Many questions!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate our workplace culture in terms of toxicity?
(1 = not toxic at all, 10 = extremely toxic)

For those who’ve been around long enough to see BD at its best, do you think a change in leadership could bring those good days back? Does anyone think the incoming CXO can shake things up, cut unnecessary VP positions, save money, and get this organization functioning again?

More layoffs...

The Executives continue to underperform and the middle managers get the bullet. They are firing the subject matter experts with legacy knowledge. Meanwhile, new VPs are brought in and are creating chaos. Where is this going? How is this company going to continue to function? Also, who is going to train the entry level staff? Someone needs to turn this around before it's too late. Can we take a vote on replacing Mark K?

Assume Positive Intent

Does anyone else specifically in corp maybe in the marketing realm sick of this phrase? I’ve heard it more in the past couple of weeks than I have in the past year, but it’s not the first time I’ve heard it and basically to me It’s permission for someone to be an absolute a--hole towards you, gaslight you, treat you like garbage, tell you your content is sh-t and then turn around and be told to just assume that they meant that feedback positively, it is the epitome of gaslighting and it just seems so fitting with this company adopted the expression so much that a VP shared something as a mandate and I’m talking about Tracy who introduced it I think to the world lol

Backend area or the East india group

Backend mainframe area. the area that ED was holding off for years. Few H1Bs under him. Says yes to all and work like they are still in British india. Hides all the truth and makes him happy. Comes out of the call the dash out to offshore and their directs. All this because they are visa slaves.

Now the new guy came in and its shaking the whole caucus. ED is loosing the grip . JO and his nepotism hires are not safe. PMO group stacked with all high grades and does barely minimum. Oh the guy became VP in no time just because of nepotism and can barely understand what he speaks out.

VP's being let go or layed off

I worked as a senior director for centene for almost 9 years. There are several VPS that I would love to see handed their backside and would love to know if there is a list of VPs who have been let go, laid off, or left the company. There are several of them that I would love to see them on. The welfare line are absolutely broke. They deserve it.

Fiserv has a Herd of HR VPs, yet most of the H1B employees resumes are Fake..

With so many HR VPs enjoying high level salary and benefits how is it possible to have so many fake resume based employees on H1B. VPs must get to office and do their job.. Many VPs work from home many days..

Like a dr-g test, Please run the resume through Lexis-Nexis based in Alpharetta right down the street from Fiserv. They are a national risk solutions provider.

You will find a ton of surprises.. Resume is a mutually trusted document.. if anyone lies on it, fire immediately and report to USCIS.

Employment History: Confirming your previous job titles, exact dates of employment, and reasons for leaving by cross-referencing company payroll databases or directly contacting HR departments.
( check with IRS for payroll tax history, you will be shocked to know what kind of employment 'history' these folks have )

Education & Qualifications: Verifying degrees, graduation years, certifications, and diplomas directly with universities and credentialing bodies.
( a ton of folks have fake degrees from Karnataka or printed in a random press )

Professional Licenses: Ensuring that any claimed legal, medical, or technical licenses are active, valid, and free of disciplinary sanctions. ( I am not even getting into this topic )

Get lean for thee not for Me

They have to cut at the bottom to keep creating new senior roles. Developers in my group get RIFd and more bloat gets added

'FIS is looking for a VP, Head of Program Management & Strategic Initiatives to join our Technology organization at FIS in Jacksonville, FL'.

'At FIS, we're looking for a VP of Technology Partnerships & Vendor Management'

Problem shift - bpSolutions to Upstream

So help me understand, they got rid of bpSolutions and instead have instead made a big central organisation under Upstream HSE & Ops. One VP pre reorg to 6VPs post re-org. Surely the cottage industry has just shifted to satisfy some power hungry and egoistical characters. What is the point and what a disaster!

Best Leaders at Enbridge

The recent post on Culture saw a few positive references to Pat Daniels - reminders of what a great leader he is though sadly someone many current employees would not have experienced.

We are a big company now so it’s great to share with colleagues who the current great leaders are.

Let’s keep this positive shall we? Enbridge HR will have the thread removed if there negative mention of certain VPs.

🔥 OMNICELL: WHERE EVERYONE IS A VP… AND SOMEONE STILL HAS TO DO THE WORK

Seriously, how many VPs does one company need?

At Omnicell, the org chart sometimes feels less like a lean healthcare technology company and more like a VP convention with an occasional product roadmap thrown in.

You have to wonder:

👉 What does everyone actually do all day?
👉 How many “strategic alignment” meetings or “workshops” can one organization possibly have?
👉 And how many VPs does it take to schedule another meeting with the other VPs?

Then there are titles that make you stop and wonder whether the role exists because the company genuinely needs it—or because somebody needed another box on the organizational chart.

And yes… VP of Internal Communications.

That one might actually be justified. Someone has to spend all day figuring out how to turn:

“We’re eliminating your position”

into

“We’re strategically realigning our workforce to unlock future opportunities.” 😂

Maybe the real innovation at Omnicell isn’t automation.

It’s automating the creation of executive titles.

How many VPs are too many?

Asking for the shareholders. 👀

Anyone know what specific Legg org VP/SVP teams will surplus in September?

I've heard more surplus is coming in September, and I am hoping I'm on that list! I asked to be on the July surplus and was told my department wasn't impacted so I could not be included. Any chance I will be on it in September? Specifically looking for impacted VP/SVP teams under Legg.

Sociopathic VPs

Is there a requirement for VP's to be sociopaths? They seem to be required to lack empathy or remorse and engage in manipulative behavior to achieve that level.

It is truly disturbing to watch them in action.

I think the annual RIFs are some kind of sick psychopathic game they love to play on us to keep people in line. It must give them pleasure to destroy people's lives year after year for no reason other than to advance their own career.

Value going back to TracFone

Here is how ridiculous Verizon Value is. Tanya and her cronies spent the last 2 years undoing everything that made TracFone a success. Once she was bounced out the powers that be now are reverting back to how everything was at Trac. Millions of dollars wasted and time and energy, I am so over this place. Please let me go now.

Need help navigating a workplace dynamic

We're increasingly relying on very junior resources who often arrive with a great deal of confidence but very little context. Many are obsessed with visibility and impressing VPs and Directors, spending more energy crafting narratives and projecting competence than actually doing the work required to build it. Everyone seems eager to have an opinion on everything, despite being fresh out of school and lacking the historical context or operational understanding behind why certain decisions were made. Questioning assumptions is healthy; dismissing experience before understanding is not. Leadership often mistakes polished communication, executive presence, and confidence for capability. Those who manage perceptions rise quickly, while other carry the load. To make matters worse, some are very well connected, merit isn't always what drives opportunity. just look ate the recent hires.

Has anyone else dealt with environments where visibility is valued more than substance? Performance Vs perception he-l.
