Optum, OI and WellMed Layoffs 10/30 Confirmed

VP-level executives and above were assessed confidentially by the HR department in preparation for the next round of workforce reductions. According to a credible source, the evaluation considered factors such as salary ranges, employee engagement results, documented HR complaints about leadership behavior, and potential organizational liability. Multiple lawsuits tied to leadership actions have already been filed, creating significant financial and reputational risk for the company.

What goes away when AI kicks in

  • Driving
Self-driving becomes ubiquitous. 12 million drivers unemployed. Uber/Lyft/trucking dead.
    When: 2028-2030

  • Doctors
AI diagnoses better, prescribes perfectly, never forgets symptoms. MDs become liability managers.
    When: 2027-2032

  • Surgeons
Robotic surgery with zero tremor, perfect precision. Human surgeons watch screens.
    When: 2029-2034

  • Soldiers
AI-controlled drones and robots fight wars. Humans become collateral damage, not combatants.
    When: 2030-2035

  • Coders
AI writes, tests, deploys, maintains all code. "Programmers" become prompt engineers, then nothing.
    When: 2026-2029

  • Teachers
Personalized AI tutors for every student. Classrooms obsolete. Education becomes purely digital.
    When: 2027-2030

  • Lawyers
AI reads all case law instantly, writes perfect contracts, argues better. Courts run by algorithms.
    When: 2028-2033

  • Artists
AI generates any image, song, movie on demand. Human creativity becomes niche luxury.
    When: 2028-2032

  • Factory Workers
Total automation. Lights-out manufacturing. Humans can't even enter production floors.
    When: 2029-2033

  • Military
Autonomous drones, robot soldiers, AI command systems. Human generals obsolete. Wars fought by machines.
    When: 2030-2035

Save Up

We are all highly compensated. Do not let lifestyle creep affect you. I've been able to support a spouse that doesn't work and two kids off of my salary. At the same time, I've maxed out the 401k, IRAs and saved a full year of expenses. Do the same and these layoffs won't be painful. We all know another one is coming before we know it. Don't be a statistic.

Paranoid or out to get me?

Case management here. Had stand in sup review some time management issues with me, which I have corrected. A few days later I get told I'm being written up for poor audit proformance. The audit looked sketchy, was not in any format I've ever seen and made it look like I hadn't done 80% of my job, even though all documents where in place. I advised sup of this w proof of work and they looking into it. I've been here a while and come to terms that I might be part of layoffs one day and prepared mentally for it. I haven't prepared mentally for being fired out of the blue though. Anyone experiencing this or got any feedback? Thanks

People should stop thinking only massive layoffs count

As if numbers are all that matter. They’re not. Every single cut is someone’s livelihood, and it impacts their family too. I’m venting because I keep hearing people dismiss smaller rounds as if they don’t matter. They do. Whether it’s five or five hundred, all layoffs are worth reporting, worth talking about, and worth caring about.

RTI International lays off 120 more workers, most in NC

  • RTI International cut 120 jobs Thursday, including 75 in North Carolina.
  • Federal funding declines dropped NIH grants from $397M in 2024 to $59M in 2025.
  • RTI workforce shrank 35% in 2025, affecting over 400 North Carolina employees.

100k fees for H1Bs

Ok so if this comes in I see it will be the end to H1Bs for Oracle. May be this explains part of the rif with advance heads up from LEs pals in the WH. It’s just a poison pill costing business valuable talent.

Brutal

absolutely brutal news out of pwc middle east this morning. they’ve announced that 66 zero partners and about 1,500 staff are being let go immediately.

the knee-je-k reaction is that it’s because of the pif ban. people assume that restriction is the trigger. but i believe it’s more complicated. yes, pif matters for every major management consulting firm. but the real story is about the market changing.

the market is contracting. clients are realizing what ai can do. broadly speaking, clients now want to build their own in-house consulting capacity. the cost difference between hiring someone internally versus using an external consultant is massive. they know they need those skills on their own teams. so why keep hiring outside help?

there is a definite shift. on paper, the advisory market in the middle east should be growing. i did a video recently pointing out that the projection was roughly 13 % year-on-year growth. last year saudi spent about 4 billion on consultants. this year should be 4 billion plus 13 %. something never quite added up, and this feels like validation.

pwc grew rapidly from around 2015 to 2025. they won nearly every big transformation project tied to vision 2030. but nobody thought that kind of scale would be sustainable forever. you can’t run project management offices for a decade and expect everything to stay the same.

now pwc is being forced to pull back. the layoffs are brutal, and i deeply sympathize with everyone affected. but cutting that many people is not done lightly or cheaply. clearly they’ve run the numbers: weigh the cost of layoffs now against the upside of operating leaner during slower growth.

i’ve also heard a rumor that another big four firm is going to announce something similar very soon. i won’t name names, but expect this wave to spread. it’s not just the big four—more consulting firms will feel this squeeze.

crazy times. if you’re being affected or know people who are, reach out. maybe we can build a group to help each other through this. i’d love to hear your take.

ISP means ISP...low odds of getting one of the 200+ open roles

I just wanted to provide my experience as someone who has been "ISPed." While I can appreciate the capability to look for a role (whether in Jones or outside) and get paid (something you probably wouldn't get anywhere else...which helps), from my perception things are literally a "free for all." So what I mean by that is everyone, whether ISP or not has probably been impacted. Moved to another location, new role, demotion, I've heard loss of pay in some instances, etc. So everyone is shell shocked to all fu-k and just not happy...period. Morale is a total sh-t show and people are still swirling in what the new world will look like so not much productivity seems to be happening.

So where I am going with all this is the people that are not ISP'ed are storming the gates for these new jobs and those that are ISP'ed are getting shut out. I cannot say any more than that but I truly wish all of you who are impacted the best. If you do have an opportunity to stay on then I hope you are treated with the respect you deserve.

Take care all and best wishes.

ESRO Re*ards

The response by these dipsh-ts is comedy. Almost seems like they are trying to cover up another massive mistake they made with this Shai-Hulud response. Too bad none of the incompetent workers will be laid off, only those with a brain and those that speak the truth will be laid off.

Humana stock continues to tank......

Another day watching the stock tank. The street must be catching wind of what turmoil exists internally with employees and no clear strategy/leadership. I was Riff'd about 2 weeks ago and know many great employees that took the ERP. Louisville can be considered a "big city" but it's more of a "big community". Word spreads fast when there's this much dissatisfaction. So unfortunate for a company that had promise and a purpose, (not financially driven) many years ago.

5 year anniversary this week from layoffs we were told wouldn’t happen!

Well it’s been 5 years since Paul broke his promise to over 500 loyal employees. Hope everyone is where they want to be. I’ve stayed in touch with half a dozen of my friends and most are doing ok. Three, myself included have retired and three have found a new job. How is everyone else doing?

My team is gone

On Monday end of day I was let go. They realignment of management will happen soon if not already.
I'm not authorized per my basically golden parachute to go into major details but I will anyways but not release who I am.
All teams will be no larger than 8. Some might be smaller and other rolls that entire teams did will be offloaded to other teams removing the fat from the organization. This will be hush hush as they move forward. They will be evaluating folks currently to see who is at the top of the list and who is at the bottom of the list.

Good hands just for stock holders

The company appears to be in a state of decline, with leadership frequently chasing the latest industry trends. Every few months, there’s a shift in direction and new sets of goals, often driven more by buzzwords than by long term strategy. It can be frustrating and sometimes even amusing to watch leadership make decisions based on vendor pitches, despite lacking hands-on experience themselves.

Strategic direction often changes based on which vendor a VP has a relationship with. Microsoft is currently the favored trend, but just a few months ago, it was all about "prompting." These cycles repeat, creating instability.

Benefits are decent, but be cautious getting sick can be expensive. PTO is generous, and pay can be competitive depending on your role and negotiation. However, layoffs happen regularly, roughly every six months, with many roles increasingly offshored to Allstate India, which probably accounts for over 50% of the IT staff.

The company is heavily focused on “cloud” and “AI” at the moment. Overall, I’d rate it an average workplace, it’s a place where you do your job, keep your head down, and hope to stay employed. Tenure doesn’t offer much protection. If your views don’t align with the ever changing corporate vision, you may find yourself out.

If you’re hired, my advice is: agree with leadership, reinforce their ideas, and avoid pushing back, your opinion won’t carry much weight. On the positive side, there are solid opportunities to improve your skills through a strong internal training ecosystem.

BOD’s visit to US Refinery

So WORTHLESS and his merry band of BOD’s are scheduled to visit Pascagoula next week. Is this where he will announce his retirement and EB named as his replacement? How much do these little trips cost the company? Doesn’t matter because they are saving so much through layoffs, EOI’s and exceptional management decisions.

Talk about waste!

There needs to be an area on chemisphere, to make recommendations for cost savings. Some examples are HR, AI is here and knows the answer and policy to quote instantly. I have had several HR questions go unanswered bc they don't know, pretty frustrating. The new HR person at GTP says everything that we ask is another department, so what's your job? The second is fire specialist, why are they needed when you have a trained and certified fire team on site 24 7? I can see a chief and an asst but not a whole group of specialist. There are about 5 or 6 superintendents in the EHS group and 3 or 4 managers, same for technical group. None have more than 3 or 4 people reporting to them. Half of them refer to their previous jobs for reference and not cpchem policy when asked a question. Shift superintendents, another waste, a glorified night and weekend maintenance ticket inputs and tracker. Some will say they are incident scene commanders when something bad happens, well I say you have 3 Shift supervisors that are 24 7 that fill the same role, it's not hard and they are only in charge until management gets there which will be very quick once they make the call. There are multiple "specialist" in operations and maintenance that seem to just hang out and give opinions when asked, not necessarily good or smart opinons most of time. There are about 100 plus true project people on site su-king up space and money, why? We are damn near finished and most of stuff is handed off already. To many redundant people, everywhere not just GTP. Go to Cedar and it's the same thing. I was there for years and I would see people and ask myself, what does that person do? I ever only seen them drinking coffee, lunch or walking around aimlessly. But let's layoff people that actually work and have purpose and let's outsource jobs to foreign countries.

NCR Party in NYC 2026

Well, the mrns on the 20th floor are at it again. This time sockless Jim has invited everyone to celebrate that the company has survived yet another year of inept leadership, layoffs, and falling share prices. Woohoo!!

They plan to go to NY to celebrate and to take a bunch of others with them. They will party in the city like it’s 2029 and then most likely come back and lay off another 1000 or so to help pay for it, but this makes sense because they can only cut their way to profitability anyway.

Wouldn’t it be poetic justice if they all get run over by a bus while crossing the street to the exchange.

These clowns are worse than Bill Nuti ever was, at least he had the guts to stand in person and deliver the bad news, these cr33ps send out a video or post some bs on the bridge and then hide on the freight elevators. They might take some questions at the next all hands meeting though...something to look forward to I guess.

Can’t wait to see how they spin it though, should provide a lot of laughs!! Go Team.

More LAYOFFS

From what I can tell, Novo Nordisk (9,000 employees), Merck (~6,000 employees), Bayer, BMS, Novartis, and Pfizer have all announced major layoffs. Should we anticipate a similar announcement from Illumina soon, or is it more likely in Q4?
