I'm daydreaming about quitting to start my own thing

I'm so over corporate life. The thought of dealing with another reorg or layoff cycle makes me want to just walk out. I'm seriously thinking about using my skills to start a small business. It'd be crazy hard, but at least I'd be my own boss and in control of the chaos.

A coworker got laid off again

The guy's been here for less than a year, but I've gotten to know him pretty well in that time. Before starting here, he was laid off by his previous company and spent nearly six months trying to find another job. He told me how stressed he was during the process, and how he was starting to lose hope when he got an offer from USAA. Now he's been laid off again and I can't even imagine how he's feeling. How do you even explain two layoffs in less than two years to a future employer? He's completely crushed and out of steam.

Is severance officially maxed out at 4 weeks?

I know a few people that were recently let go in Boston. Rumored be part of the initial phase of the Lake Mary relocation (they relayed to their manager that they had no interest in moving to Florida and that feedback was cascaded up).

All of them here 10+ years.

3 or 4 years ago they would have been given 6+ months. I think the maximum used to be 52 weeks.

I am hearing they each received full pay to the end of the pay period plus another 4 weeks.

Is this the new policy? Is a quality severance for people with 20+ years officially now gone? Has anyone heard of anyone let go in the last few months that was given a more substantial package?

Job eliminated at year end, shafted on the bonus

Just when you think these vultures can't get any lower, they skrewed people out of their hard earned bonus. People worked 11 months of the year, were rated meets, and got the unexpected shaft. So glad I got out of this toxic environment. They will do anything to skrew you. #Toxic #Shaft

General Motors Cuts 700 Jobs in Oshawa

General Motors confirmed the end of its third shift at the Oshawa assembly plant. This decision results in the layoff of approximately 700 unionized workers. The plant, located in Oshawa, Ontario, produces the Chevrolet Silverado. The automaker had previously postponed this shift cut due to strong demand. U.S. tariffs on Canadian-built vehicles are cited as a contributing factor.

Severance

For anyone who mentioned over the past couple of years that they were waiting for a severance package, what’s the plan now? Just curious because I was in the same boat, and honestly, the job market is rough. My current strategy is to switch things up and play the corporate game. Thankfully, I got a meets this year. I did 40% less work, so now I’m planning to step it up and do 20% more than last year, and fingers crossed I can keep that meets.

4th year, 4th restructuring/layoff, it’s over

I’m just frustrated that they keep cutting and cutting roles, to stack responsibility on top of someone else is work load…then decide make you fight for a open role in a “hunger games” like ritual where you go against your colleagues. This whole thing takes a month long mind you. Then if you’re lucky to be the one they picked, poof, restructuring 6 months down the road. Su-ks

Listen finally

Maybe all the downvoting and “you’re crazy” commenting people trolling us will listen. This is easily the 8th time this site has accurately reported when layoffs would occur. It’s not to panic people. It’s to help us prepare. Prepare for transitioning, finances, prepare resumes, start looking at job market. While some may already be doing that, many have a wild fear of change and don’t.

Please let this be your wake up call. You need to be plugged in to your network, expanding it, strengthening it. You need to be touching your resume every couple weeks.

More layoffs today

XOC, Construction and Headend are on the cutting block this time being told immediately to go home and they will be paid till March and start applying. I know CMO and supervisors and below are affected. This one so far seems to be a lot more quiet than the removal of divisions.

100+

lululemon let go of 100 part-time workers who helped answer customer questions by phone, email, and chat.

These workers helped people every day, but the company decided it wants to use only full-time workers for this job instead.

Lululemon says this change will help them do a better job helping customers and make the business run more smoothly.

This is happening while the company is also looking for a new boss and dealing with some disagreements with its founder.

no store closures, just changes to how customer help is done.

TD Cowen had a data center themed analyst letter today that said that Oracle may lay off 20-30,000 people or sell Cerner to keep up with the debt on the data centers it’s building for OpenAI. It also says multiple US banks have pulled back from Oracle data center deals.

How's that pink Kool-Aid tasting

Ya'll lapped up the pink Kool-Aid like it was champagne. Ya'll believed Legere when he said TMO would "be job-positive from Day 1" after they gobbled up Sprint. Truth is they started laying off on Day 1.

Mmmm, that pink Kool-Aid seems to be going sour. But, go on to the next all hands meeting and rah rah.

Massive layoff last Friday affected hundreds of UHC employees

For those who may not be aware, there was a massive layoff at UHC last Friday in which hundreds of leaders were let go. The layoffs affected employees in Customer Service, Service Account Management, Directors, Business Analysts, Quality, and many other departments.

This was a quiet layoff, but it impacted many people who had been with the company for years. It appears to be part of the new CEO’s focus on restoring profitability after the significant losses following BT’s death.

This week, several sessions were held for those who were laid off, and it was heartbreaking to see so many people who were proud of their work starting the year now forced to search for new jobs. Many of them are young professionals and breadwinners for their families. While some are hoping to secure another internal position to remain with the company, the reality is that very few will be able to do so.

We are in an extremely unstable job market, and this decision has been devastating for hundreds of now-former employees. Be prepared for additional layoffs, as many roles are being sent offshore, and the introduction of AI is expected to eliminate even more positions in 2026.

Anyone here who tried to leave the company accept a counter offer to stay?

Have another job opportunity elsewhere, just like several of you folks our team is pretty understaffed, and it would be almost impossible to do a knowledge transfer session during my last two weeks. I assume I may get a counter offer, and if the salary is high enough, I’d be okay with staying. Although I’d be concerned that I’d be targeted for the next layoff…. Anyone been in a similar position or any advice?
