Save yourself and leave Centene

I posted over a year ago how I had been RIF'd from CNC, had found a new job, and was promoted within 4 months of being there. I also pointed out how unprofessional and poorly the management was in my year there, and how they handled the lay-off (Dec. 2023).

The leadership in this thread were PI---D.

This post is for those emotionally struggling and worried about your job with Centene. Move forward with another company, consider a whole new area in the workforce, take a pay cut if you have to or can, and grow elsewhere.

Life is so much better outside of that place! I took a job I had to take to pay bills, but it was a blessing! 1.5 years later and Ive earned my CNC salary back! Better benefits and stock options!

2 year respective

Forgive an old man for reminiscing. It was 2 years ago today the ENB ended my career and laid me off.
What a gut punch! The team I led was a high performing, highly regarded team. The folks I worked with, led and supported were the best. Our senior leaders, not so much.
During my decade at ENB I survived 5 rounds of layoffs before I was kicked to the curb. During one round I happened to be the senior on site and had to conduct the “all clear” meeting, that was a tough one.
Today I’m in a much better place, with the severance package I was given I was able to retire. Next month the last of my LTI grants will pay out. I wish all of you who remain the very best. Except the clueless senior leaders who have no idea what they are doing. And while I don’t miss working at all, I still miss my team!

Is this a hint I will be laid off on Tuesday

Last Tuesday my toxic manager called me rambling about job opportunities in a certain group I should look at but when i asked her job numbers, titles etc..she just said look out there and she said not even sure there are openings in your hub but you know them so reach out. This manager also gave me my first ever IM in 29 years with no real reason so I know she targeted me because she does not like me. The last 2 1/2 years since she became my manager due to a reorg has been miserable. When she gave me IM, I told her at that time I would be looking at internal jobs but do not think she was trying to help me when she called me because there were no jobs even in the group she told me about because i asked around. She told the team a year ago she cannot tell us when she knows person will be laid off but will try to give a hint. I am going to be mad if it is the case but on the other hand will be a big relief to escape her and toxic environment. Big fear at 49 is i will have hard time finding something external. Do u think she is giving me a hint?

To leave or not to leave? That is the question

Every day I log in to work and think, why the fu-k am I still here?

The pay sure as he-l isn’t keeping me around. My manager looks like they’re one bad meeting away from quitting, and the people reporting to me are obviously trying to get the he-l out. It feels like I’m standing in the middle of a slow-motion collapse, pretending everything’s fine while everyone else is quietly polishing their résumés.

At this point, it’s hard not to wonder what the he-l I’m even sticking around for.

Yo Elliot

It’s pretty clear given AC has only 11 direct reports and 200 additional people took the time to upvote how awful of a leader he has been, that you have a problem with tech leaders.
Just layoff and don’t replace.
Leader of tech RA is likely breathing a sigh of relief as he was being pinged as an arrogant unqualified leader before the AC post overshadowed that.
Do your layoff of all of us but if you want the remaining folks to care and not be riddled with low morale, you’ve got to get rid of all existing tech leadership. All.
Clear case of how one bad apple in charge of 11, can affect hundreds and that’s just those on this site.

I had my appraisal done and oh boy was it funny. I would have loved to know the prompts they used.

My direct either has a fetish for Victorian English or they are using weird prompts in AI. I kid you now, it feels like it was written as if he were going to be laid off anyway, It was great! Stupid and great. Though I guarantee he had no clue what half the words meant.

Made it though latest layoff, wait for APR/AIP

So the HR management call happened about the upcoming pay and performance week and some interesting but not shocking news. Apparently, with the restructuring in the career architecture and demoting everyone to lower titles, this also includes new lower pay scale bands for those titles and roles. So if you were a person who was previously in a role that now has been artificially demoted with a new salary band that is lower than your current salary, you will not be eligible for a merit pay increase because you’re outside the band for your new title. Just another way to squeeze people and not reward them for good performance. Comment on this if this turns out to be true next week.

How many weeks of severance based on band level?

If you’re part of the 2/19 layoffs with a final termination date of April 25, how many weeks severance are you receiving after April 25? The documentation shows minimums for each band level. For example 16 weeks min for Band 4. Have other Band 4s all received 22 weeks or does your number of years at Cigna add on (in pairs of 2 weeks) to the 16 weeks?

Thank you!

Internal positions being given to RIF people?

Are the internal positions given to RIF-ed employees over other internal candidates? I have applied to a handful of new internal postings in recent weeks but only a few days go by and I get the "we're going with another candidate" email. I am fully qualified for these positions so I have been surprised to not even get an interview. I also know some positions are posted and they already know who the position is going to but that can't be for every single one of these postings.
And yes, I know, why are you applying to internal positions, this company is terrible, blah, blah, blah but I am trying to get a different position/title to better position myself to move to a different company in the future if I see fit or becomes necessary.
Also note, these positions I am applying to are only 1 pay grade above where I am.

Iowa Legislators Ask Whirlpool to Halt Layoffs

Layoffs and AI...

I think many people do not get it - AI will impact many jobs for the simple reason that in the past 30 years we created lots of so-called bullsh-t jobs and many of you are doing them. And AI will ki-l those, but that is ok. Personal assistants, auditors, project managers, Excel monkeys, recruiters, HR, etc. to name a few - all will be gone soon.

‘The Office’. How does this make sense?

A colleague of mine was fired yesterday. 6 months to retirement, but they fired him paying a severance package.
How does this make sense?

He was let go by a new manager appointed recently (6 promotions in 5 years - yeah, its possible) who doesn’t even know what my colleague does and how complex&important is his work.
No replacement, no time for handover.

And we got motivational speeches from a new manager.
I can’t believe its happenning, feels like being inside of ‘The Office’ sitcom, only its not funny.

Severance Question

Two questions about severance, US based. Assume your current position is being eliminated and you would be normally eligible for a special severance.

1) If you apply for a job, realize you do not want it and get an offer, do you forfeit severance?

2) If you apply for a job, realize you do not want it and withdraw your application before getting an offer, do you forfeit severance?

I think you forfeit it on 1, since an offer was extended, but I am not sure about 2, since no offer was extended.

Remember that guy who was laid off after 25 years on his birthday?

About a year ago, I think. He was randomly chosen by an algorithm. So much for being loyal to this place. Anyhow, I was wondering if anybody knows what happened there? Did he get his job back due to bad press or not? All the major cuts lately made me remember him for some reason.

Supervisor’s Holiday PTO Reminder or Possible Implication About Post‑Review Layoffs?

All employees receive three 8‑hour holiday days each year. My supervisor advised me to use all three, and mentioned that if I don’t use them, I will lose them. I’m unsure whether she was simply reminding me about the policy or implying something else, such as a possible layoff, by encouraging me to use the remaining holiday hours.

What do you think she was trying to say?
