VBG Intl to BT sell off imminent

Heard on the grapevine that the sell off to BT is now more likely than the mass dismissal in EMEA. At least for Professional Services teams working on Security products. That should buy people some security for a few years. Regarding exactly which teams, remains to be seen. BT earnings call today 21.05.

Are you still here? Good Lord. Why?

Don’t give me all that double talk about needing a job and all.
You are grown human beings. You should be able to do something else, and clear yourself of this mess here.

Why do you keep doing the same thing every day, yet expecting a different result? At this point you are beyond being able to justify why you stay here to anyone or yourself.

Affected folks - those laid off since April 2025 - Have you found new jobs?

Has anyone forced out or currently training their replacements have any luck finding a new job? Can you share any tips? Did that "job search assistance" they offer help at all? I read that you get taxed in your severance for that "benefit". If it is useless can we opt out so as not to pay taxes on that?

Please keep this on topic and don't have this thread devolve into "the usual". This is for job hunting information only.

How the he-l does it actually go down???

Can someone explain how these layoffs actually get determined? I feel like it’s just purely cost, but based on how pointless and anti productive it has ended up being I’m not sure if they actually give it any thought. Manager has been giving us the standard BS. (Saying a lot without actually saying anything) lol.

No peace of mind

Has there been a single day in the past 12 months that we didn't have to worry about cuts? I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Even after the cuts are freshly over, we immediately start thinking about the next round, because we all know it's coming. How come we all allowed for this to become the new normal?

Don't waste time trying to advance career here

Was offered an internal position slightly below advertised salary on internal site & on LinkedIn. When I pushed back was told the pay range was "actually lower than advertised" - hm indicated the advertised rate was for midline to highest and I was told I can't qualify for midrange b/c the new grade was much higher than my current rank.

USB would NOT pay me for the role and job that I would be doing. They wanted to pay me off of my current salary & a certain % of the advertised midline - was firmly told no wiggle room that's how offers are made now.

Promptly declined and the manager seemed surprised. So I'm qualified enough for the job but don't deserve the pay? No thanks I'm not desperate. My next move will be to a better employer.

I don't know if it's worse to know the date or not

I just want this round to be over so I can have some peace of mind, even if only for a couple of weeks. I'm terrified of losing my job. It's a bad period in life, too many obligations and reasons to stress. Losing my job would probably bring me to my knees. I hate that it's come to this, but I can't change it right now.

Let me save you some heartache

Stop believing that working harder will keep you safe. The employee who shows up, does the minimum, and spends the rest of the day working the room has better job security than the top performer on the team. When layoffs come, they look at your salary first and your results second. The company does not care how good you are. It cares how much you cost.

If I got laid off

I have three kids, and we live in a $2 million home. My wife is a stay-at-home mom. I received my green card earlier this year, so I am not a U.S. citizen yet, which limits me from working for the government or companies that require U.S. citizenship. Jobs paying $200k or less wouldn’t meet our financial needs. If I were to be laid off, I would sell our home and consider moving back to India.

Northeast Switch Techs forced into VZB

51 switch positions in the NorthEast are being forced into the union. Supposedly those people will have to bid for their current positions. This eliminates the need for current VZB techs to have to go to the switch locations for work.
Rumors have it that current VZB techs can bid on those positions as well, thus having those VZW techs to end up RIFd

I can't afford to be laid off

We have a baby due in just a few months and I've never been this scared about job security. I can't afford to be laid off right now. Not with hospital bills coming and a new mouth to feed. Every rumor about cuts makes my stomach drop. I don't know how I'll be able to deal mentally with constant layoff rumors through all of this.
