Utah BLM Announces Staff Cuts

The Department of the Interior confirmed layoffs for Utah's Bureau of Land Management. This decision affects nearly 100 employees. The BLM manages 42% of Utah's land, protecting natural areas. Conservation groups express concern over impacts to threatened landscapes. The Red Cliffs Conservation Area, a critical habitat, is among affected areas.

The layoff: My two cents

This has left a bad taste in my mouth for Fidelity. I got laid off yesterday, I'm a scrum master in Brokerage, L5. It makes sense to me that I was let go because I was one of the only two scrum masters in my chapter that were L5, nonetheless it was still a kick in the chest to get the news. But, I'm surprised Fidelity announced RTO just last week then this happened. If they were smart they should have announced RTO long before and waited for natural selection to kick in to have people leave on their own terms. But who am I to say?

Good luck to everyone else impacted, I hope you find the good in this as I do as well.

Federal Public Lands Workforce Shrinks in Mountain West

More than 5,800 federal public lands workers departed last year. This affected eight Mountain West states. Agencies like the U.S. Forest Service saw significant declines. Many workers were reassigned to the Interior Secretary's office. This reorganization may lead to slower decision-making.

Wealth platform

Squad lead here

Long time fidelity. Got 12 months severance, holidays paid out to cash and prorated bonus.

Was asked to keep it to myself but fu-k that sh-t, I hate how they broke the news so I don't care.

Multiple scrum master in my previous role got impacted as well.

Impacted BU based on what I heard:
Wealth platform, advisory, Asset management, Brokerage Record keeping

HR next department to leave?

I was discussing with a few colleagues the potential impact of moving to 100% offshore HR support, similar to the model offered by a Capstone-type company.

This would mean completely eliminating the in-house HR department, with every employee instead getting a mobile app on their phone to connect directly with dedicated HR support agents

What is going on in Risk?

Does anyone have insight into what’s happening with 2LOD Risk right now? From where I’m sitting, it feels increasingly chaotic and disorganized, and it seems like the engagement models are really starting to suffer as a result.

I genuinely feel for our 2LOD partners. They all seem under a lot of pressure—stressed, uncertain, and concerned about their roles. Given that the second line of defense is supposed to provide oversight, structure, and consistency across risk and compliance, it’s especially concerning to see things feeling so unsettled.

It just doesn’t feel sustainable in its current state, and I worry about the broader impact this is having—not just on those teams, but on how effectively risk is managed overall.
