Pandemic cuts

Fidelity pushed the non-tech to tech roles during the pandemic. Then finally someone realized it’s better to pay more for people who know what they’re doing.

Next cut will be managers who aren’t qualified and have been in their roles too long. Weak managers cost the firm too much, it’s not just one expense, but there’s a serious ripple effect.

Culture comes from the top down and when the top are filled with people that only have one brain cell, the rest of the company takes a hit.


So, now we wait?

We know cuts are coming, but we don’t know when or any real details beyond that. So now we get to sit around stressing and worrying for who knows how long. I’m sure that’s going to do wonders for everyone’s mental and physical health. I really hate what this place has become and the joke we have for leadership.


Knowing layoffs are coming, I have a million questions

Who makes the list? Is it based on performance, salary, tenure, or luck? Which departments are getting hit hardest? Are newer employees safer or more at risk? What's the real business reason behind this? They won't tell us anything, so we're all just guessing and panicking.

Sacramento City Unified School District’s Board of Education voted to finalize 503 layoffs. The action addresses a $127 million financial gap. Many affected workers are classified, such as custodians and food service staff. Even with these cuts, the district faces potential state receivership to avoid insolvency. Always be prepared

It really doesn't matter when the next round is going to happen. How many times have we already experienced layoffs being dropped on us without any communication or warning that they might happen? Leadership has proven to us many times over the past couple of years that they couldn't care less about their employees, and they've been treating us accordingly - as the first line of any cuts they might need at any given moment.


Milestone Technologies to Cut 51 Henrico Positions

Milestone Technologies plans to lay off 51 employees. These layoffs will occur at its Henrico County facility. The company filed a WARN Act letter on April 29. Layoffs are due to the end of a client contract. Most affected workers are data center logistics associates.

Layoff Counts

Any IT people here who can run a quick compare on number of people in the email directory before and after the cuts? I see number of posts claiming different numbers, execs are silent, instead of spreading rumors maybe we can try to figure out the real number. No, you may argue that the number is internal, but since you can legitimately buy (ZoomInfo, SalesGenie, RocketReach, Lusha, etc.) the entire email roster of pretty much any large US company this argument would not stand ground.


New Jersey Companies Announce Over 600 May Layoffs

New Jersey saw over 600 layoffs announced in the first six days of May. Accupac is closing its Lakewood facility, affecting 260 employees. Danone North America will close its Bridgeton plant, laying off 114 workers. Worldwide Flight Services, Fulton Bank, and DoubleTree by Hilton also announced job cuts. These recent announcements contribute to 6,637 total layoffs in New Jersey for 2026 so far.

A&O Shearman Reduces London Staff Roles

Tomorrow isn’t the end of the layoffs

I think most people know by now tomorrow is the day, with a few people in denial. This was a quota game, leaders were told to eliminate x number of people for many teams as the only consideration.

This isn’t the end either. There will be more rounds this year. If as a business, they decide we need to do cuts, fine. But they continue to cut talent and drag out morale instead of doing it all at once. We are all being told to take on more for no extra pay and use AI which constantly makes mistakes. The only reward is MAYBE keeping your job. Talk about transparency and doing the right thing… yet let’s keep making employees live in fear.
