Upcoming layoffs
Anyone know if there are layoffs coming ?
Tomorrow isn’t the end of the layoffs
I think most people know by now tomorrow is the day, with a few people in denial. This was a quota game, leaders were told to eliminate x number of people for many teams as the only consideration.
This isn’t the end either. There will be more rounds this year. If as a business, they decide we need to do cuts, fine. But they continue to cut talent and drag out morale instead of doing it all at once. We are all being told to take on more for no extra pay and use AI which constantly makes mistakes. The only reward is MAYBE keeping your job. Talk about transparency and doing the right thing… yet let’s keep making employees live in fear.

What constant cuts really mean
A healthy company hires when it needs to and keeps people when they're doing good work. A failing company cuts over and over, calls it restructuring, and pretends things are fine. We've been through how many rounds in the last few years? Certainly too many. That's not a sign of a strong organization.

Store closures and motives FYI
So it starts, now well publicized on the news Sycamore is closing stores under the guise of security or safety, and while that's a concern, their goals are to get out of leases to reduce their debt obligations (somewhat good), and pad their pockets by selling off any real estate that is owned. However, it is NOT with improving the business in mind. It is purely a way to pay themselves. Look at their history on their other large holdings, Staples they are continuing to reduce stores under the premise they are low performing stores, but in many cases it's just to cook the books. Essendant, they sold off the majority of their real estate for millions as a cost reduction for low performing, closed the majority of their business, but never invested back into the company. Talbots, Hot Topic, Belk, Pure Fishing they are closing stores/warehouses/offices and leaving just a shell of businesses they will never invest back into to improve. Sycamore is evil, and just plays with people's lives to line their own pockets over and over again.

What the he-l is wrong with these people? Record stock price and then you go in and reduce our commission because of "inflation"?

Are the cuts continuing?
Please share the country and the date you were layoff
Drip, drip, drip
No more big announcements. Just a few people gone every other week. It's somehow worse than the big rounds.
Anyone have a strategy?
I'm struggling here. Every week there's a new rumor about cuts, and just when I think I've got my role figured out, my manager changes what I'm supposed to be doing. I can't plan, I can't relax, and I can't tell if I'm doing well or about to get cut. How are the rest of you surviving this?
More cuts at Shopify
This time it’s revenue operations and customer support. We all know this is tied to AI, and it’s ridiculous how little anyone in charge actually seems to care about customers. AI has already proven to be pretty awful when it comes to customer support across the board. You can’t scroll through Twitter or any other platform without seeing people asking how to reach a real person at one company or another. Welcome to your future, Shopify customers.
Any truth to any of this?
One person says 500 let go last week
another says 2500
One says may 28th - 30% being let go
last month it was April 30th - 30% being let go
Can anyone please be truthful?
This site is worse than facebook for crying out loud...
Please post facts and stop trolling - yeah, I know REAL big ask on here!
May Layoffs
Is there any info someone can share about what to expect next week and what location to be affected?

Good luck next week if you're hoping to stay
I'm not. I've been too chicken to quit on my own, so if they do it for me, and I get severance, even better.
Even more cuts coming, most likely
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees Thursday that the company's planned layoffs stem from a surge in AI capital spending, and declined to rule out additional job cuts beyond those already announced.

What did this round achieve?
Other than pi-s off everybody and get rid of some of the best people?
The wrong target
Every round of cuts here goes after the people who keep things running. The ones who know the systems, who have the relationships, who fix problems before anyone notices them. The dead weight somehow always survives. They are not cutting fat. They are cutting muscle.

We need more cuts. A sh-t ton more!!!!!!!
A lot of the roles that were cut simply weren’t adding enough value to justify their existence. That’s not a personal attack, it’s a structural issue that builds up over time in large organizations.
Layers get added, processes slow down, and before you know it, efficiency takes a back seat to maintaining headcount.
If we’re being honest, there’s likely still a significant amount of inefficiency left in the system. Trimming the obvious excess is one thing, addressing the deeper organizational bloat is another.
Companies like Nike don’t stay competitive by protecting inefficiency. They stay competitive by being sharp, focused, and willing to make difficult decisions even when they’re unpopular.
The real question isn’t whether layoffs are harsh. It’s whether the company is willing to fully align its workforce with the value it actually needs to create.
Right now, it feels like that process is only halfway done. We need more cuts in the business teams as well as tech.
