Now the back-peddling and re-hiring will soon begin in order to get things back on track.

Today was supposed to be a day for more cuts. So, who got notice that they are getting a big check and subsequently running away from this dumpster fire as quickly as possible?

There’s no real plan. Just cutting into oblivion won’t magically make the company better, more efficient, or more profitable. And no, AI can’t replace people, unless someone is aiming for an epic fail.

On Thursday, the Phoenix Union High School District (PXU) governing board voted 5-1 to eliminate 167 positions, reducing staff by 6%.

Every time the cuts hit, it feels like they're pulling names out of a hat because skills and performance and dedication never seem to matter in the final call. It turns the whole thing into a layoff lottery, and after watching that play out over and over, it's hard to feel motivated to give everything you've got when it clearly doesn't affect who stays or who gets pushed out.

Chevron (CVX.N), ExxonMobil (XOM.N), BP (BP.L), Shell (SHEL.L), and TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA), have pledged high returns for the past decade to avert an investor exodus as fossil fuels lost their appeal.

But maintaining those generous payouts, which have topped $100 million annually since 2022, has increasingly been funded by debt as energy prices retreated from highs caused by sanctions and supply disruptions in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Philips Respironics plans to lay off nearly 200 employees at three facilities in Westmoreland County, Pa., according to a Workforce Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. The layoffs, planned for Dec. 31, 2025, to June 30, 2026, will take place at facilities in Mount Pleasant, New Kensington and Murrysville.

I am hearing from leadership and many others that yet another round is coming Q2ish. Has anyone else heard this? We cut some of the most insanely needed departments, what else could we cut?

given we have lifted the asset cap and are extremely profitable, one would think this years comp would be one of the best in a while, but from what I hear it's going to be one of the worst. Guess they need more money for severance and stock buy backs.

Keene State College is addressing a four-million-dollar budget shortfall by cutting dozens of jobs. I hear announcements of more cuts coming this week to make room for those accepting relocation from other regions.

Cuts are about squeezing out extra profit, plus a hefty dose of offshoring. They’ll hand us some clunky AI tool we have to babysit like a toddler, and we’ll spend half our time double-checking hallucinations and bad outputs. Yet they’ll still expect us to deliver the work of five people. It’s a convenient excuse, but it’s hardly convincing.

As November ends and December begins, what are the odds of more layoffs before Christmas?

Management’s cruelty knows no bounds and they have terminated people with an effective day of Christmas Day before. They have ruined lives and enjoy doing so. Hence I don’t put anything past this evil mob.

I hope when Dan and the other execs watch Christmas Vacation this holiday season, they realize that they are essentially the a-hole president of the company, Mr. Shirley. In the movie, even the guys wife found his actions to save a quick buck at the expense of his employees was disgusting. I hope Christmas Vacation is on every channel, on every TV this holiday season, and they are forced to watch that part over and over with their families.

At least Mr. Shirley redeemed himself in the movie, Dan will be an Ebenezer Scrooge in real life. Dan has no excuse to say he simply inherited a bad situation, and had to make a tough decision to right the ship. He's been sitting on the board for the last 8 years operating in lock-step with Hans, one disaster after another.

Instead of propping up the stock price by increasing the dividend, Dan should enroll the shareholders in the Jelly of the Month Club and use the cash flow to pay down the debt from previous failed acquisitions and golden parachutes.

Has anyone heard if there will be layoffs in Dec '25 or in Jan '26?

CR and CU is more concerned on cutting their staff when they don't meet their unrealistic budgets than be a true leader. If they aren't shown the door soon all of the other BU's will be going the way of our maintenance division.

Every task is marked urgent, but planning is almost nonexistent, and the list of measurables keeps growing. Cuts leave teams stretched beyond capacity. The constant message is just to be grateful you still have a job. Keeping operations moving under these conditions is exhausting.

Instead, it's like they're trimming the engine while the plane's still in the air. They're getting rid of institutional knowledge to replace it with what? They should know by now that cheaper and younger rarely means better.

I'd like to start next year being able to focus on my work (if I'm still here, of course). I have been half-productive since this whole thing started. It's not intentional, I just can't concentrate properly when all I can think about is if I'm next and what I'll do if I lose my job. Can we just get this over with?
