Laurel Ridge Layoffs Expected to Worsen Bexar Jail Issues

Laurel Ridge Treatment Center announced plans to lay off 648 employees. These layoffs will reduce available mental health beds in the community. Bexar County officials fear this will worsen overcrowding at the county jail. The jail already faces issues including overcrowding and staffing shortages. The loss of 310 beds could push more people into the jail system.

Oracle stock does down due to OpenAi miss targets.

The Missed Targets Report
A report (notably from the Wall Street Journal) revealed that OpenAI failed to meet several key internal goals:

User Growth: ChatGPT failed to reach its goal of 1 billion weekly active users by the end of 2025.

Revenue: The company missed multiple monthly revenue targets in early 2026.

Competition: Competitors like Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude are reportedly eating into OpenAI’s market share, particularly in the high-value coding and enterprise sectors.

Laid off and relieved

I was hoping for this outcome. I don't have another job lined up, like most of us don't. I'm going to take a break, decompress, and then figure out what's next. Good luck to everyone, especially the real pros and the good people I had the pleasure of working with. My advice to everyone still at Nike is to focus on finding something else. It will not get better around here.

Layoffs done in some orgs. Poor taste using "Tech Activation Touch Base" again.

First off, I'm sorry to those let go. I hope they're able to find something better and more secure.
Some orgs have been told layoffs are done.
I've seen "Tech Activation Touch Base" still being used for both for reorg meetings. Poor taste reusing that meeting title for both information and layoffs. Way to send an employee into panic.

Nike is already dead

I unfortunately was not laid off. Honestly, I would’ve loved to have had 4 to 8 months of severance to get out of this he-l hole.

Unfortunately, I’m stuck behind in a company that’s already dead and doesn’t know it.

The company that Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman created is dead, it’s now filled with a bunch of overpaid mouth breathers, who are politicians more than business people, not the whole company but enough.

Nike’s AI hype is a perfect example. You have a bunch of re--rds running around for three f** years trying to make AI work at Nike and there’s been nothing of measurable value created. The enterprise doesn’t even have a strategy, even though it spent millions of dollars and 100s of resources to do “something” with AI.

Fortunately, the id--ts who decided to go with copilot were all fired or at least most of them. Unfortunately, a new group of id--ts will use AI as some sort of silver bullet to save the company when they have no experience actually doing anything with AI and the company’s problems have nothing to do with AI(at least at the present moment).

It’s just a bunch of people pushing technology they don’t understand, other than it’s a magic word to maintain influence, relevance, and job security.

Don’t get me wrong. Nike was a great company and a great American story. But that company is dead.

So to those of you who got fired, I wish you the best of luck and frankly, I’d rather not be on the Titanic as it sinks.

For those who stayed. What did you do different?

  • Were you the one writing AI first or AI driven in your linkedin profile?
  • Did you posted that “ I would like to share that I recently completed blah blah blah AI course” too often in linkedin?
  • Are you the one who bluffs in meetings and throw big words all day long but dont do sh-t?
  • Did you kissed the bottom really well all these years?

I am geniunely curious. What did you do right?

8 / 1392

So approximately 8 laid off in ITC and 1392 whq?
Better get to work ITC because those of us that are unfortunately left, who saw knowledge and skill get canned this week are not going to be carrying the workload for you like we have been the last few years.
Tech Leaders - When it’s time for your d-mb panicked questions, ask your chosen workforce at ITC who have zero connection to the biz and no passion for the company.

IBM is Already Doing 'Voluntary' Layoffs This Year in Europe ('Buyouts' Ahead of Mass Layoffs)

There's now evidence that IBM does the "buyout" spiel to shake the tree and see what fruit falls. Later the chipping of the branches will commence.

If there are layoffs, just do it already

The company culture is in the toilet and it doesn’t seem like it can be fixed, there are too many unqualified people in too many roles because Abby was too terrified to lay anyone off during the pandemic.

It’s annoying to not know what is going to happen but a massive layoff would be the only thing that could save my group. Managers won’t even show up in the office but then nag and put people on PIPs because of their attendance. Sorry, typo there the “leaders” are leading others to not come in, by example.

Are we done yet?

so now what?

is today the last day of layoffs and tomorrow and thurs are the 'reshuffle the deck', deck of cards that are 2's and 3's and a couple 7's of clubs

russian roulette done, now time for low stakes poker and playing bad hands

what a joke this is, every year, there's nothing left of us, no hope, no ambition, just fear and low energy

all the wind taken out of our sails

that phk celebration gonna be real fun, but then again, the east campus seemed untouched, so I guess ol tech doesn't matter

time to move on if you haven't already........for those that remain, spend all energy on new opportunities.....this place isn't going to let anyone else retire from...those days are over....long tenured.....big red x on back.....just how it's playing out

Setting boundaries

Going forward...

  • 8 hours a day. max
  • uninstalling BYOD
  • if asked to travel the answer is No
  • save your pizza parties and team building. if i'm not working, i'm going home

not good enough? bring on the PIP. Will gladly take it and the package when laid off. Not everyone will leave on their own without for free

Low Morale

I work in credit fraud and recently there were recent layoffs of remote employees who were amazing people to work with back on March 20. There are still some remote employees left that live about 1 to 3 hours from the office. They now want people to go in 60% of the month and I’m a remote employee that’s still standing and I am always left wondering am I next. This whole RTO has been a mess and it’s just getting worse. They even told me I should try to get into the office. No way I’m going to do that long commute with the high gas prices and I was hired as remote. With all this lay off talk I am getting to a point where I just feel they should just lay me off. My whole department struggles with low morale and if you ask a question or want help on something you get an attitude from management saying you are an advanced case processor, you should know how to do that. There is a lack of support for one another, just a negative attitude. I just keep my head down and quietly do my work. Anybody else feel like this? Always wondering if you are next? And your department struggling with low morale?

Epic Games Reduces California Workforce

Epic Games reported layoffs impacting California workers. State filings detail these cuts, including remote employees in San Francisco. Marin County saw 16 layoffs, and San Francisco had 28 remote worker cuts. The company also affected 28 employees in San Diego County and 61 in Los Angeles. These reductions stem from declining "Fortnite" engagement and broader industry pressures.

John Deere Adds Jobs, But Layoffs Persist

John Deere plans to open two new U.S. manufacturing facilities. These sites in Indiana and North Carolina will create about 300 new jobs. This expansion follows thousands of layoffs at Deere's U.S. plants in recent years. The company recalled only 324 employees since January. Soft demand for farm equipment and tariffs continue to challenge the market.

Univar Solutions Plans Greer Layoffs

Univar Solutions USA LLC is set to conduct a permanent layoff. This action affects 99 employees. The layoffs will occur at its Greer facility. The company filed notice of these job eliminations on April 21. These changes are scheduled to take effect on June 28.

Take control back…

This is a textbook execution of work turnover. You eliminate all of the talent. You leave a handful of your most vulnerable sheeple to say yes without friction. You proceed to turn over the work to the incoming team. Just another American company sending work overseas. But you may be surprised to know that you still hold all of the power. If you and the thousands of employees reading these posts simply stop buying their products and in turn ask the same of your other family members, extended families, friends, people at church, neighbors, etc., you might find yourself feeling less like a victim and more like an agent of change holding these companies accountable.
