People are getting cut this month in a division here, rumor I heard was if 3M keeps it below 50 a month they don't have to announce it publicly or notify the state? I have not heard of anyone in my division getting cut.

The layoff plan was finalised in France and it’s a massacre that targets mostly engineers and surprisingly not too many corporate functions. Even products that are supposedly in priority has not been spared and people with domain knowledge have been impacted. In my 18 years at Ansys, I have never come across such levels of insincerity and misdirection.

Stop misusing "fired" when you mean "laid off." "Fired" implies misconduct; "laid off" implies downsizing. Use these terms accurately to protect professional reputations.

After the merger they got rid of all the leadership that made the company successful, and replaced it with a toxic leadership from a dying company (Sprint), and adopted it’s failing models for annual layoffs.

Fast forward to today, we’re not growing anymore. The stock is tanking, and they’re tightening the grip for in office (will be monitoring/micro managing for at least 8 hours/day for 3 days/week).

Do they really think this will make employees work harder? You would think that they would want to make it more pleasant to work here after decimating the culture, but no, they’re making it worse. Where did they get their leadership training? Any id--t would know that the people are what make the company successful, not a leadership lineup with visions that change every few years with.

Good luck trying to make me work harder or above and beyond. Sure, I’ll be in the office twiddling my thumbs and watching videos on my phone. You took away any incentive for me to go above and beyond.

Can anyone comment on what, if any, is Alcon's "package" for employees who they would like to, or decide to, get rid of? Not people impacted by a structured RIF or layoff like we just had. Just those "one off" exits that happen all year long.

That could be PIP'd and fired, or outright fired for performance (not cause). Or "encouraged" to leave: can the employee "negotiate" an exit?

I have just under 15 years of service to the company with numerous awards and promotions for good performance. Like many here, I have poured blood sweat and tears into my job going above and beyond for this company.

All those efforts are now in the dustbin and I am being shown the door with just 18 weeks of pay (which will be fully subject to tax).

As an older person with specialist skills, I am not easily going to find another similar role, if at all. The future seems very dark and uncertain and I am fearful

They are looking at 30,000 total this round.

Well they got me yesterday. I was in the hospital January for a stroke, still recovering and one year away from retirement. The best they could muster was an email. I was the only person let go on my team and also the oldest at 66. The least they could’ve done was a face-to-face layoff but being the cowards they are they hid behind a computer somewhere. In all honesty, I hope they burn to the ground.

Largely because unlike cold blooded Safra and Clay, Chuck and Jettu are ultimately cowards. It takes a special kind of spine to make massive decisions like these. Cisco will keep the drip drip of San Jose only layoffs at a rate that essentially is cover for lack of making tough decisions. I worked at both Oracle and Cisco and say what you will about either company but Oracle will invest their last dollar into a few bets even if nobody believes them. Right now, their bet is AI Infra. Before that, it was OCI. Cisco will always peanut butter - both investments and layoffs because leadership is utterly incompetent to make hard choices.

Darwin has been deceased for a while and the family wants to get out of X whatever they can. Louie is just a placeholder until a sale can be arranged and closed. There will be some rearranging of chairs and some more layoffs in prep for the sale but it wont take too long to line it up and make it happen. Our dumpster fire of a workplace has spread to Reddit lol. Rumors of severance being reduced to 1 week per year after 4 years of service, multiple people saying they were blindsided with IM ratings at year end and suddenly let go with no severance, and more.

We've all been warned. This will be our norm and it has already happened for some employees. Employees will be fake-fired for non-existent performance issues. All to save severance $$. The brutality will only increase for those that are still hanging on. Wish i left when i had the chance.

I’ve been here for over a decade, and I’d be lying if I said it was all bad. There were good times too, even if the bad has been more prominent in recent years. I am unsure if the layoff decisions were the same unilaterally across all orgs, but I was told that people knew yesterday afternoon and leadership had a say in it. In at least my organization they picked some high earners and some people who due to re-orgs were sort of put into bad spots.

Got the morning email and still have no information on whats next and we only get benefits til end of next week. How nice.
