After spending the last three years wondering if this Tuesday was the day my number would come up, my number finally came up.

I knew Wells consistently sets new record levels of workplace toxicity. Whenever one hears stories about heinously toxic levels at other companies, Wells says “Hold my beer.” But still I did everything I could to keep my job. I was afraid that at my age no one would hire me and I’d basically be unemployable, so a toxic job at Wells is better than no job.

However, long before my severance was up I found a better job at a better bank — A bank with a healthy work environment and one that actually values its employees beyond the occasional Wells e-card stating how much they appreciate you until they fire you and send your job to India.

There is another long-term Wells survivor here, and she told me that she believes many of us carry a lightweight PTSD from the toxic environment at Wells. She may have a point in that over time I can feel the work stress and work paranoia leave me, and I’m sleeping well again.

So DAR, you incompetent fools did me a favor by forcing me out after 20 years. But as a final goodbye, at noon tomorrow, 7/23/26, in going to stand in my desk with my back towards Chandler and drop my pants. At that time, please face north and blow sweet kisses at my shiny white a$$.

I was ‘laid off’ (UK) and had purchased travel insurance as a benefit. Is anyone able to provide details of the provider/group group policy number as having trouble locating.

We're down so much in headcount it's not even funny. The only folks left will be those who water the plants if it continues like this.

I'm hanging on for a severance package. That's it. Considering the frequency of layoffs, I don't want to jump ship ahead of time and leave good money behind. If you're smart, you're job hunting. If you're not, well, you're going to be caught off guard when things get worse. And they'll get much, much worse.

IBM will silently laying people off after the stock crash... From what I've seen, this is how they do it:

They suddenly label people as "low performers" (making up stories if they have to) and try to push them into quitting.

They put people on PIPs (1–3 month Performance Improvement Plans) and then fire them. The goal seems to be avoiding severance.

They make your work life miserable until you leave on your own.

If you're thinking about joining IBM, I'd honestly look somewhere else. In my experience, the company doesn't have many interesting projects anymore, and management is pretty bad. Most managers have no clue how to lead or manage teams.

Just my opinion based on what I've seen in this company over the years.

Micromanagement and fear tactics will continue... the main goal is to push people out and force them to quit. It is no secret what the management is doing, change people's roles to unrealistic expectations in order to save money and to make the company look profitable on paper so they could off load it to another buyer. For years they have refused to provide employees with a clear Job Description while they shout at every meeting that the role and expectations have changed. They are waiting for people to adjust into their new and force upon role so that they could use the legal claws to bypass liability for changing employee roles without their consent. This is unlawful and unethical. No wonder why people are not performing their best because nor only they dont have capable leaders, they feel like they are being conned by their leaders...

I am actively being recruited by other companies and been around 15+yrs. With the rumors about new layoffs getting louder daily, I am trying to figure out if there is a way to volunteer? Has anyone directly asked to be laid off? How did it go?

Sad to hear about the layoffs in the AGI division. It's always difficult to see talented people impacted, especially in teams working on such ambitious and important problems.

Does anyone have a sense of approximately how many people were affected?

I've heard from people working in finance that Charlie has started looking at 2025 and 2026 financial numbers. Many of them have gotten direction to reduce costs where possible.
LFF people are moving to EXM/EXP to reduce rent costs.
Most of the other costs are the people.
Anybody heard anything from any senior execs about future turbulence? Do any of the teams even have people to shed? Aren't we lean enough as we are?

You can call them to let them know you don't want to continue Cobra. Or you can just ignore the bills if you don't feel like wasting half an hour on the phone.

Just let go a lot of small business Specialist and the ones they are keeping are called something else now. That entire role is going virtual in the future...just FYI. For now they are thinning the herd.
