Block Reduces Staff Citing AI Efficiency

Several companies are announcing workforce reductions, citing artificial intelligence as a key factor. One report indicated AI was a factor in 8% of recent job cut plans. Some industry leaders question if this is always genuine or "AI washing." Despite cuts, some companies may rehire for new AI-related roles. This trend highlights AI's evolving impact on employment across various sectors.

Pay Attention: AI Isn’t a Tool — It’s the Strategy

BNY employees increasingly describe changes that align with the AI‑driven cost‑reduction strategies McKinsey promotes to large financial institutions.

The most visible shift we see is the steady automation of repetitive, rules‑based work that RV brags about in the media — onboarding, KYC refresh, reconciliations, service requests, and exception routing. Employees report that tasks once handled by full teams are now processed through AI‑enabled workflows, reducing the need for manual roles and shrinking job families.

Decision‑support AI is also reshaping middle‑skill positions. Workers note fewer analyst roles, broader spans of control, and more “AI‑assisted” oversight, which mirrors McKinsey’s recommendation to streamline mid‑tier functions by embedding intelligence into platforms rather than people.

The Platform Operating Model (P-O-M) accelerates this transition. Employees describe work being standardized, centralized, and moved offshore once AI reduces the skill threshold required. This matches McKinsey’s model: automate first, relocate second.

The impact on employees is becoming clearer. Career paths in legacy operations, service, and processing roles are narrowing as automation absorbs institutional knowledge and reduces the value of tenure. Job security is declining in functions where work can be digitized, offshored, or both. New roles are emerging in AI governance, data quality, and exception management — but not in volumes that offset reductions.

Employee reports consistently reflect the same conclusion: AI is not just a tool at BNY; it is a restructuring engine.

It's so hard getting a job these days

Remember when you'd apply and actually hear back? Not anymore. Now all I get is silence. And most of the jobs on LinkedIn aren't even real. They're phantom postings that go nowhere. The only way I see people actually getting hired is through networking. Someone knows someone who knows someone. That's it. The economy is really bad and the old methods don't work anymore.

John Deere Recalls Hundreds of Employees

John Deere is recalling employees across three U.S. facilities. Nearly 50 workers will return in April, adding to over 300 recalled in 2026. This follows increased demand in construction, forestry, and drivetrain production. The company previously laid off over 2,000 jobs in 2024 and continued cuts into 2025. Tariffs and legal challenges, including a right-to-repair settlement, still impact the outlook.

However, these fewer entities caused greater overall job losses. This indicates a concentrated impact on the workforce.

I feel bed for the younger generations

How do you settle down in this environment? How do you buy a house, have kids, make any kind of long term plan when your job could disappear next month? Endless layoffs mean endless uncertainty. And endless uncertainty means you can't build a life. Working at Dell offered a certain security for many of us that the new generations don't have.

There's life after Macy's

A good life. I was so used to that place that I stayed way too long when I could have been working at a place that has better pay, is actually staffed well, and doesn't have managers who get off on yelling at the rest of us. Give it a try, folks. There are much better employers than Macy's.

Bridging former Verizon time

Hey,

If you worked at Verizon for 15 years in PA, moved to FL, then all the sudden VZ sells off to frontier, but then you quit after a few years on a Friday, start Verizon on a Monday, do you think Verizon will finally bridge the Verizon time again? Was told that since Frontier bought VZ, all VZ seniority ends, should you ever get rehired at VZ. Haven’t been able to bridge the time and have been denied, since in the language of the buyout, you can’t carry your time over, if he rehired. Been back at Verizon for about 7 years now in the same position as service tech, feeling robbed of time.

Additional Layoffs for 2026

I was released on 3/4 and ever since leaving life is SO much better. It feels good to smile again and enjoy life beyond AT&T. Just curious if my previous post from February was accurate in predicting additional upcoming layoff dates:

4/22/26
6/19/26
8/19/26
10/2/26
11/4/26

Foreign Workforce in Strathcona Refinery

Lots of foreigners (Americans, Indians, Malaysians) under the guise of “specialty skills” Canadians can’t apparently perform in their customs letter. All lies! Folks forced to signing these bogus letters to allow these foreigners through and steal OUR jobs.

It’s not that Canadians can’t perform these jobs, but that the company doesn’t want to hire or have laid off Canadians that used to do the same job.

Companies like Imoerial should be taxed more. They’ve taken jobs from tax paying Canadians.
