Is the VSP really all that bad?

Got my package! Paid off my car, credit card, personal loan, and 2 months of my mortgage. Another job secured! For a lot of us, the VSP was a much needed blessing. A win is a win! I wanted to spread some GOOD NEWS for folks who are still trying to secure a job and wait on their package. It’s coming your way! You will WIN!
Side note: avoid a lot of the negativity on here. It’s not worth digging into.

Dummy requisitions or H1 sponsorship?

For namesake there seem to be plenty of requirements posted and many say multiple openings.

  1. Not even a call on many. You just get a rejection letter.
  2. Some requirements are so fine tuned as if they are not interested in selecting anyone rather trying to reject outright.
  3. Some you get call from HR. Interview goes really well, but hmmm no response for further steps.
  4. Some requirements there are folks on the call who seem to be he-l bent on proving how hard the role is and how they seem stuck on one technical question that they are familiar with.
  5. Covid might have pushed a lot of undeserving candidates up the chain and they act as if they run the company :-) . No common sense, no professional attitude. Just folks who were lucky to be in that position...thats all.

If these were labor filings, why waste others time?

If these were internal rotations why waste others time?

If they dont need candidates why do they keep raising hopes only to disappoint?

Stop complaining and do something

If you were lucky to get a severance and leave good for you smart move. If you chose not to take it knowing what's been going on stop complaining. FTOWS If all you want to do is waste you time complaining here its not getting you anywhere spend time searching for a new company that will appreciate you

If you hope you'll find another job at Citi

I have bad news for you. Hundreds of job postings we have are typically either intended to transition a contractor/H1B to an FTE role... Also they use them to pick someone who has already been selected. So, in most cases (not all cases), the posting are just a formality. I know you know this, it's here for newbies.

10 years on this site.

Still at Oracle.

Layoffs galore.

This board always follow the same pattern: anxiety before the event, urgency during notifications, this is followed by anger, disappointment, uncertainty. Sometimes there is some relief afterwards.

Cannot change the beast. Oracle will Oracle, there will be layoffs again.

Count our blessings, enjoy your work if you can, if you cannot try to find something else. I've had it and I am looking around - this round sealed it for me.

Good luck all...

Blind Layoffs

Oracle has conducted consecutive layoffs blindly for stabilizing itself against the blind decision it took for AI data center. The severance, health benefits offered to laidoff candidates are very below to industry standards just covering the basics.
With Oracle resume its getting hard to search jobs in current market. The first question you get is are you impacted. once I said yes, they don't even think how skilled I am to come out but just treated me so negatively.
It hurts. I am marching forward taking it easy.
But its NOT OK. the health care support from Oracle is bad, salary is bad, severence is bad. its too much to tolerate.

New Jersey Companies Announce Significant Job Cuts

Nearly 270 workers across three New Jersey companies are facing job losses. Headquarters Hotel Management LLC plans to lay off 91 employees at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel. Banker Steel, a division of Schuff Steel, will eliminate 115 positions at its South Plainfield facility. Barrette Outdoor Living is also cutting 59 jobs at its Egg Harbor City-area operation. The reasons for these workforce reductions have not been disclosed.

I'll take almost anything else

I've gotten to the point where nearly any other job sounds appealing. I'd stock shelves overnight, work a reception desk, or spend eight hours answering customer complaints if it meant leaving this place. None of those sound particularly exciting, but I'd still take them. That's how badly I want out of here.

Slow Rollin' Wreck

On the layoffs (and the insatiable appetite for chaos that produced it)

There's a particular kind of chaos that only reveals itself once you've watched an organisation lay off people with a combined few hundred years of institutional knowledge, seemingly to save on their pension contributions. It's rather like watching someone empty the fire extinguishers to make room for more decorative candles — and then congratulating themselves on the redecoration. Takis, SS, great job... clowns.

The official line, such as it is, has been a masterclass in saying nothing at considerable length. No rationale. No roadmap. Just the occasional blank stare from a senior leader whose remit has changed three times this year and whose conviction hasn't changed once. Say what you like about the people shown the door — they at least knew what they were doing. The people who did the showing seem to have skipped that module entirely, and appear to have developed a genuine taste for the chaos that followed. One round evidently wasn't enough.

One does start to wonder whether "strategy" has quietly been redefined by the leadership team as "whatever avoids an uncomfortable conversation this quarter." It's a bold approach to running a scrutinised business — rather like a ship's captain steering by vibes and hoping nobody mentions the iceberg in the town hall, then wondering aloud why morale is "a bit off."

And do stop me if you've heard this one: the same roles being made redundant are, delightfully, still live on LinkedIn. Nothing says "considered restructuring" quite like advertising for the exact job you just eliminated, three floors down, at a more agreeable salary band. It's less a talent strategy and more a magic trick, except everyone can see where the rabbit went — and increasingly, so can regulators.

I have my theories about the why. Leadership with a seemingly insatiable appetite for risk or anything so inconvenient as ethics. A marked allergy to bad news, delivered by people who've made an art form of not wanting to hear it. And, above all, a reluctance to pay for the kind of expertise that quietly prevents disasters — right up until it's gone, at which point everyone's terribly surprised when the disasters arrive precisely on schedule. Funny, that.

I'm not writing this from a place of panic. Professionally I'm in better shape than most and not remotely desperate...yet. But I've been looking for a few months now, and I've no intention of stopping. If all goes to plan, by the time the weather turns, I'll have finally stepped off what has become a very slow, very avoidable train wreck — one that, judging by the appetite upstairs, still has quite a lot of track left to run. I'd recommend the view from outside to anyone still deciding whether to stay aboard.

Grubhub Alum Builds Successful Job Network

A former Grubhub employee created a talent network after being laid off. This network lists hundreds of former employees seeking new employment opportunities. The tracker helps recruiters find candidates with specific skills and backgrounds. Many individuals have successfully found new jobs through this initiative. The program highlights the importance of community support during workforce transitions.

Another rejection

I got another rejection, wrapped up in all the usual nice words about my experience. Apparently someone else was a better match, which is probably true, but it doesn't make getting rejected any more fun. I'm trying not to take it personally and just keep applying. Anyone else spending way too much time reading these emails lately?

This isn't what I signed up for

The company I joined years ago feels like a completely different place now. Everyone seems exhausted, and the constant threat of discipline has people scared to do anything wrong. I've got a master's degree in a field that's usually in demand, but I've applied for 14 jobs and barely gotten any response. I'd leave too if I could find somewhere to go.

I can’t believe

I came from Slalom, not as a VP or SVP, but an IC. I can’t believe I left what I had to come to CDW. I’m dealing with buyer’s remorse and am pushing my resume to other opportunities. After 3 months of what I’ve experienced, I’m already applying for other jobs. I can’t believe this company is still in business.

How are reservoir engineers doing?

I was talking to a reservoir engineer about my job search and interviews as we both want to leave. It is proving much more challenging for him than me as reservoir engineering is pretty much just oil and gas. I encouraged him to look at geothermal energy. My skill set is more transferable to other industries.

How can I find a new job after TD?

I was coldly let go a few months ago. I took some time to deal with the consequences of what they did to me, but now, I'm ready to go back to work. Could mentionning TD on my resume be a deal-breaker preventing potential employers to hire me? I've stayed for 5 damn years in this sh*tty company 🤡, so it isn't something I just can hide 😞! 5 years with my mental health declining, not enough sleep, nightmares, etc. So for those of you, who like me, aren't there anymore, how did you do it? How did you convince an employer to hire you after TD? Sending hugs and take care ❤️

I hope this is at least a bit of good news for folks that got affected - summary & link below:

  • U.S. tech employment grew by 86,000 workers in August 2026.
  • Tech companies themselves cut about 14,700 jobs.
  • More than 320,000 active job postings required AI-related skills.
  • Employers are shifting from AI experimentation to real-world implementation.
  • Nearly 600,000 tech-job openings remained active, with 42% newly posted.
  • Much of the tech hiring is happening outside traditional tech companies.
  • AI-related roles are rising rapidly while traditional software-development hiring is weakening.

Tech Layoffs Spur Dishwasher Applications

Laid-off tech workers are applying for a high-paying dishwashing position in San Francisco. The restaurant owner claims many applicants are unqualified for the demanding role. He is seeking individuals who can handle multiple tasks beyond just washing dishes. The restaurant is located near Uber headquarters, which recently announced significant layoffs. The owner hopes to find a dedicated employee for his busy weekend shifts.

For those Who got laid off after moving to Dallas or ATL

I know some people whose husbands and wives have to quit their existing jobs and follow the other to Dallas to rebuild their dreams, only to know the other person has lost their job in 1 year of move. I understand families have emergency fund for this situation, but what else did you do to rebuild, because if getting another job was so easy, they could have landed one in their hometown.
