  • United Supermarkets will cut 126 employees in Texas starting early 2026, continuing through the year.
  • Cuts are tied to a major investment in new operating systems across United, Market Street, Amigos, Albertsons Market, and United Express.
  • Roles affected are mainly in the Lubbock main office, including marketing and support desk positions.
  • United operates 96 stores and says the changes will strengthen operations and service quality.
  • The move fits into Albertsons broader cost reduction plan after its failed Kroger merger, including prior layoffs in Phoenix and California.

Why do they even pretend this is all because of AI?

Cuts are about squeezing out extra profit, plus a hefty dose of offshoring. They’ll hand us some clunky AI tool we have to babysit like a toddler, and we’ll spend half our time double-checking hallucinations and bad outputs. Yet they’ll still expect us to deliver the work of five people. It’s a convenient excuse, but it’s hardly convincing.

Layoffs before Christmas?

As November ends and December begins, what are the odds of more layoffs before Christmas?

Management’s cruelty knows no bounds and they have terminated people with an effective day of Christmas Day before. They have ruined lives and enjoy doing so. Hence I don’t put anything past this evil mob.

Jelly of the Month Club

I hope when Dan and the other execs watch Christmas Vacation this holiday season, they realize that they are essentially the a-hole president of the company, Mr. Shirley. In the movie, even the guys wife found his actions to save a quick buck at the expense of his employees was disgusting. I hope Christmas Vacation is on every channel, on every TV this holiday season, and they are forced to watch that part over and over with their families.

At least Mr. Shirley redeemed himself in the movie, Dan will be an Ebenezer Scrooge in real life. Dan has no excuse to say he simply inherited a bad situation, and had to make a tough decision to right the ship. He's been sitting on the board for the last 8 years operating in lock-step with Hans, one disaster after another.

Instead of propping up the stock price by increasing the dividend, Dan should enroll the shareholders in the Jelly of the Month Club and use the cash flow to pay down the debt from previous failed acquisitions and golden parachutes.

No one at leadership seems to understand what is happening on the ground

Every task is marked urgent, but planning is almost nonexistent, and the list of measurables keeps growing. Cuts leave teams stretched beyond capacity. The constant message is just to be grateful you still have a job. Keeping operations moving under these conditions is exhausting.

Any chance they're going to get done with all the cuts this year?

I'd like to start next year being able to focus on my work (if I'm still here, of course). I have been half-productive since this whole thing started. It's not intentional, I just can't concentrate properly when all I can think about is if I'm next and what I'll do if I lose my job. Can we just get this over with?

Braga Fresh layoffs

Less than four months later, Tim Stejskal, CEO of organicgirl, announced they would be closing the Braga Fresh processing facility in Spreckels, resulting in the loss of 260 jobs.

When are the cuts happening?

Enterprise tech, Wealth, WI, Brokerage have been tightening the belt it seems.

They already know who's on chopping block with Boston office relocating to sea port, NC already at capacity.

So why not let associates know who's impacted?

There are people in the team who barely do anything, never show their face on cam, always working from home.

These guys have been coasting for a better part of 3 years now,
While the actual high performers have been living in stress, anxiety, and uncertainty.

Looks like there are major cuts on the horizon with the mood somber prior to holiday party, no one seems excited as they used to 4 years back,
Certainly not as excited as they were last year.

Bonuses under siege

It is clear that management is trying to nix any amount they can from annual compensation bonus payouts (which frankly I look at as deferred salary for doing your job) to cut costs if you add any value to this company or not.

Not exactly a well thought out way to motivate staff to go above and beyond or retain anyone worth retaining, perhaps I need to focus on getting my “paper right”…how can we in this environment!

As covered locally: Verizon layoffs impact 168 workers in Washington state - GeekWire - Verizon

Verizon is cutting about 168 jobs in Washington state, including analysts, engineers and retail workers. Many of the affected positions are at stores that are being divested or converted to franchise locations, which removes those employees from Verizon’s payroll. The article notes that the cuts follow wider restructuring at the company as it strives to improve financial performance and compete with rival carriers.

Austin layoffs planned at Couchbase after buyout

Couchbase, a California-based cloud database firm with offices in Austin, is laying off 11 employees in Travis County, according to a notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission. The reductions are scheduled to take effect January 12.
The company stated in its filing that the cuts are permanent.

Charlies cuts are hitting the wrong people

Charlie keeps trimming out the lower level folks who actually keep everything running. The people doing the real work are the first to go while the higher tiers stay untouched. Every restructure makes the front line weaker and more stressed. It is hard to watch the backbone of the place get chipped away like it is nothing.

Did anyone buy or lease the Orin?

Rumors from earlier this year… Is bnsf doing directional traffic on the coal loop? Did they run through Edgemont yet? Did they do anything with the Orin???

Every bit of industry has been changing this year. People are getting laid off or displaced to other locations. (Example… Union Pacific is wanting to make North Platte an away terminal).
