US IDE Townhall

I just watched the recording and something I noticed was a rather despicable technique.

Kate said that the rumor that there will be another reorg in March isn’t true. And they can’t debunk all rumors. But the only rumor that I have ever heard is there will be massive layoffs next year after P&T is integrated into the businesses. This is a very logical thing to guess they will suddenly have extra people and they may or may not wind up needing or wanting them for their services.

She then proceeded to ask if we wanted another reorg due to all of the rumors about it, which was a “joke” in really poor taste.

Keep in mind that the LT all has media training. I believe that they intentionally debunked a rumor that makes no sense and probably doesn’t exist in order to not address the one that does. This is similar to how politicians these days will say crazy things and then walk back all but 20% of it, and then it turns out that all along their goal was to only get that 20% of bold things done.

Do not trust these people. Weasel words and sus physiognomy and body language. Jokes that serve as confessions.

Another example of this technique of answering a fake question to address a real one that can’t be handled - when asked about the future of US employees, Mark remarked that Shell is dedicated to investing in the region. This doesn’t even answer the question. Spending money the US doesn’t mean it was invested in the employees or that they won’t downsize again. Think critically and be very careful with what they say in town halls. It is literally rehearsed with PR.

Corp Risk Leader

They are not kind individuals. Simply observe the town hall meeting that SM conducted last week. She treated each of her reports as if they were children, or even more aptly, as though she were the almighty. Mocking every one as if she were all-powerful. Behind closed doors, she is as unpleasant as they come. She must have learned it from her direct superior. Drain the swamp!

Submit questions to the global town hall

Everyone has a lot to say on here, this is your opportunity to try to force GM to address it. Yes they convert every question to a softball version but if enough people are asking the same questions they’ll have to at least speak to it.

Submit questions in the Slido for the global town hall with GM on Dec 2. You can also upvote other people’s questions.

HR First Town Hall

We started the town hall strong, but things took a turn once the conversation shifted to “culture” and how we plan to integrate it into everything. It was disappointing to hear how culture and sentiment were being framed.

Culture isn’t a buzzword or something you sprinkle on top of initiatives it’s what employees feel when they walk through the doors every day. It’s reflected in how we support people, how decisions are made, and how work actually gets done.

Right now, we don’t have a defined culture strategy or a competitive differentiator, so saying we’re doing “market-based culture” rings hollow. And leaning heavily on AI because it sounds innovative doesn’t address the real issue: we haven’t clarified who we are, what we stand for, or how we create an employee experience people can trust.
AT&T is not culturally where it needs to be. Culture is shaped by systems, leadership behavior, consistent norms, and shared meaning—and right now those elements aren’t aligned or clearly defined.

Still thinking about EH's index card at the Nike Team Meeting

I want to say that I like and trust EH and think he's what we need. All of that. But comms handing him a card that says the chat was being mean was strange in a way that I think illustrates something. I remember seeing a lot of shock and surprise in the chat, but no one was expressing anything inappropriate I don't think. So them giving him a card and getting him to cry is just odd. What did that card tell him we were even saying?

I think it speaks to a sense across Nike that we can't process things or have human responses to big news. If Comms didn't want shocked emojis in the chat, they should have just sent an email. I'm not saying we're in the "we don't tolerate dissent" zone (yet), but that is the vibe Comms seems to be sending, intentionally or not. If I could tell EH/Comms one thing it would be: you can be shocked at somewhat shocking news and still believe in our mission. We've still got so much of our comeback journey left. It's going to be important for leadership not to confuse being a person with not caring about this place.

Failed Planning town hall

After the most recent planning town hall, I’ve never felt more unmotivated working for 3M. SVP of planning is woefully under-qualified to be leading this global organization. The future is NOT bright at 3M with him in charge.

GCC Layoffs

Venkat townhall had hints about GCC layoffs.

I know people are leaving on their own already.

What do you think will happen.

I am trying to be positive but it's so hard.

Optum Insight Town Hall

Today’s townhall was informative. It was made crystal clear that globalization and AI will continue to be the major priority/strategy of Optum.

Additionally, I found it ironic that they mentioned the concern of staff in Ireland, India, and the Philippines sometimes feeling left out, but no mention of the concern of workers in the United States related to continuous layoffs. I’m sure those in America being laid off feel way more left out.
