Is this happening at VZ?

A company-dominated union, also called a "yellow union," is a worker organization that is controlled or heavily influenced by the employer rather than by the employees it is meant to represent. These unions are often established and directed by management to prevent genuine, independent employee representation and are illegal under U.S. labor law, specifically Section 8(a)(2) of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).

Upcoming layoffs

As we all know, Thomson Reuters does massive layoffs every year in November. If you got a really good review on your midyear review, can you assume that you’re safe this year? Has anyone ever heard of someone getting a great review during their mid year review but still finding themselves in the lay off list that year?

Risk moving to crypto industry?

Had a recruiter ping me recently for a job with a "leading crypto" firm for grc work. Would be an 80k pay bump plus equity and full wfh. Too good to be true perhaps, but I'm doing my research.

What would you all do? I survived a few lay offs here but I know job security is not guaranteed anywhere; especially in crypto.

Did Mike Sicilia FAIL on Day One at Oracle?

Mike Sicilia was the head of Oracle’s Industries Global Industry Unit (IGIU) until today, now he is the CEO of Oracle. I think he failed already. At IGIU VP/SVP titles were selected for layoff is only 5.6%, well below a commonly cited ~10% benchmark for broad reductions. Why might senior titles be less affected? We can all name plenty of worthless VPs and SVPs at IGIU. Transparency on criteria would go a long way toward trust. I don't trust Mike, do you?

New H1-B fees of $100K

There was a post about linking the new H1-B fee to solidifying offshoring. Post got deleted. It had some good information on how this will now make more sense for the bank to open their global capability center (GCC) in India for which they are currently shopping. I wonder why it was deleted. Creating this new post so someone can answer ;-)

HC10 Why not let people retire early?

If XOM is looking to reduce HC10 headcount, why doesn't it create provide an option to let HC10 staff over a certain age (say 50 or even 48) take early retirement.

Reading all the commentary on this forum, a lot of folks may take the option? Has anyone run economics scenarios for this? At the minimum, will improve morale ...

For those with a H-1B Visa status at mm

I hope our mm colleagues with a H1-B visa returns to the states before the EOD as"an executive order on Friday requiring US employers to pay a $100,000 application fee for the visa program. The order takes effect on September 21 at 12:01 a.m. ET."

Does this mean if you currently have one and it expires chances are you won't have employment because I doubt mm will pay that price for anyone plus income.
