Good old 2-4%

It’s midweek. All Hands. The higher ups are ranting and raving about how great of a year we had. How well the company performed. How it’s all “due to our hard work and our commitment to ensuring a great client experience”. Then… the Q&A starts

The inevitable, quarterly question about pay comes up. Management scoffs and gives the same tired answers they always do, smiling because that “hard work” benefits them way more than it does us. “If you want better pay, get promoted”, they say. Work harder, get better reviews each year. Go above and beyond, that’ll make things better.

The kicker is: that’s all bullsh-t.

I’ve been here 8 years. Tried my very best for 6 of those. Got exceeds, got promoted, got licensed, dragged my a-s to the office almost every single day during RTO to sit on VIRTUAL teams meetings, and guess what… it’s always 2-4% merit increases. I half assed it last year, still did pretty well, but basically stopped working myself to the bone for self preservation. Guess what? 2-4%.

Bonus? Pretty much the same as last year accounting for the slight increase in base pay.

Promotions don’t seem to be available now. New hires get paid more than I do. The job market su-ks, I keep looking. I keep my job because I need stability to take care of my family.

My boss plays favorites and low performing ‘personalities’ get better raises because they make people laugh and pick up food during work hours.

This isn’t just a Schwab issue, but an endemic struggle for all who shoulder the palanquins of corporate America. Prices keep going up. Wages barely increase and the rich get richer.

I want to find that spark again. I want to love what I do and strive to perform at my best, but it’s so damned hard when either way… it’s 2 to fu--ing 4%…

There’s really no point


I feel so sad today

I am approaching a seven-year tenure on my team and I have long found solace in our shared atmosphere. Everyone is remarkably kind and approachable. Although we have recently encountered adverse shifts beyond our control, I have remained a steadfast advocate for collective resilience despite the prevailing negativity because I deeply honor the journey that defined every teammate’s professional growth.


< 10 % of Us will get Promoted

Well actually, I heard BB is only allowing 7% of us to get promoted.

In 2024, it was close to 30%. In January 2025, BB told all the managers - you know all those people you decided in December 2024 to promote? Cut that in half.
As a result, promotions happened for only 14 percent of the company.

Not very energizing! Why stay?


It looks like I made it through this round

But it doesn’t feel like a win. I really feel for the people who lost their jobs, especially given the current circumstances, and it angers me that so many of them were exemplary employees. I’m not a big fan of my job either. I reached my limit long ago, maxed out on exhaustion, disappointment, and ethical conflict. I’m not glad I survived, I’m just relieved I’ll still have money to pay the bills.


Heartbroken

Perhaps it’s because l’m young and still early in my career, but watching a mentor I admired get canned yesterday was one of the most heartbreaking things I ever experienced. We’re not talking about the average Joe, but an advocate who went up and beyond for everyone, and was so crucial to the systems and applications that we supported.

I can’t say it comes as a surprise. People have always warned me, but yesterday cemented that we really are just a number at the end of the day. Performance doesn’t matter.

I don’t know how my team’s gonna move forward after losing someone critical. This is not the same company I was excited about joining a few years ago.


Ops needs new mgrs and senior leaders

My god its nothing but incompetence. Take your wanna be fancy degrees and shove them where the sun doesn't shine because holy moly the amount of common sense added up together doesnt say much. Just give them back because none of you deserve them. Completely sabotaging staff and the whole damn place


I’m done with this institution from HE-L

I’m a customer (ex-customer starting soon) and an employee. There is no going back after the stunt they just pulled with merit and at the same time they also let go of so many people. All in the same week. How do they look at themselves in the mirror? How? Are y’all possessed? I’m just ready to throw in the towel. The vibe is low, almost like we are in he-l.


NCR Atleos laid off entire Marcomms org / Marketing

It's a ghost town on 19. They laid off the entire Marcomms team yesterday from the CMO, executive directors, social, literally everyone in GHQ and Serbia!!! This was huge because it wasn't just a few people but more like 70 or so. This seemed really personal or just fed up with a few people and decided to make the rest suffer as a message.


Overwhelmed- tracfone heritage Miami

s it normal to feel overwhelmed at Verizon?. Or is just because we are heritage tracfone and the are doing it on purpose for us to quit?

Plus the new office will make worst commute due the traffic in Miami next to the airport.

Is it just me or the New Jersey ppl don’t feel this overwhelmed with the amount of Requests while you doing your daily job?


Overtime.

So Hans ran the company into the ground and gets an extra year of his 24 million salary. Sampath gets a 4 million dollar retention bonus and leaves 3 months later. Meanwhile store managers are being read the riot act if their stores have overtime. Cause my 3 hours of OT are gonna sink the company. Way to take care of your people Verizon. I always knew I was a just a number. But I felt like an appreciated and valued number. Nope. I am no longer proud to work here. Verizon wants me to do the impossible but God forbid it takes me 42 hours. Can't wait for the next pulse survey.


Do you trust your leaders?

Is one of the reasons morale is so low having to do with no trust in leadership? Above a certain level?

I’ve only been here for a few years, but it seems we have a disproportionate amount of leaders ousted under suspicious circumstances.

Is it normal to have so many leaders in the news? Class actions. Federal investigations. S-xual misconduct.

Doesn’t feel normal.


FEPOC

I assume most posters here are from the commercial side. Does anyone have insights into how things are going on the FEPOC side? Morale? VSP impacts? The organization became very top-heavy over the years, and I know a lot of VSP electees were MLT/SLT/ELT. However, there were also some seasoned "regular" employees with tons of technical and/or business knowledge who departed.


"Moving Forward Together"

Did the email move you at all? 🤔 It felt hollow to me. If they could have gotten rid of all of us at once they would have. I feel more like we are on a subway train...yeah, all of us are moving "forward", but we all have "stops" ahead where we must get off....Oh well, whatever.


Definitely not looking forward to the aftermath

If I survive this wave, all I can hope for is more work, more stress, and definitely more chaos. Nothing to look forward to but holding onto this awful job for as long as possible. I'm demoralized to the point of being both numb and depressed. I honestly don't know what's worse anymore - being laid off, or staying.


Belk struggling to find quality store managers

Belk has resorted to hiring managers with no real skills or management power, it seems like they regurgitate what is said in emails or conference calls yet make no effort to follow up on any issues in the store. Many employees have complained that their store managers are lacking skills, knowledge, and motivation to successfully run their store, some sales team managers, merch team managers, leads, and key holders have voiced concern that they are the ones running the stores, yet the store manager is taking credit and being compensated for their hard work. The question is who is hiring these ineffective store managers ? and why? It’s of great concern when the leads, associates, and floor managers care more and know more about their store than the actual store manager.


My work ethic is going to change

This Friday when I have my performance evaluation, if I do not get a merit (haven’t had one in two years) I am totally giving up on my work ethic. I can no longer let this team think this is okay and that I will continue to work hard. At this point I’m blaming direct manager and above them. I’m tired of us always blaming this man behind the curtain. Our managers are agreeing to this and they are at fault at this point too. Them just agreeing and going on with their day while they get $20k bonuses means they are at fault. I suggest you blame them too.


I doubt David C would ever lead like this.

The move was meant to protect employees, maintain morale, and preserve the creative culture that Nintendo believed was essential for long-term success. It became a widely discussed example of leadership taking responsibility during difficult financial periods rather than passing the burden directly onto workers.
