Don't forget that layoffs criteria revolve around profits

Not your performance or dedication. Worse, actually. Being both skilled and experienced pushes you towards the top of the list, because quality is costly. Don't bother trying to prove yourself in the coming weeks, or doing extra work in an attempt to save your job. Definitely don't take being laid off personally. In this stage of corporate greed and extreme short-term thinking, it's more likely a badge of honor than a statement on your worth as an employee.

Hundreds of layoffs set to begin as Valero idles Bay Area refinery

In a regulatory letter filed Tuesday with state and local officials, Valero said it expects to permanently idle refinery processing units at the Benicia facility and lay off 237 of its 348 employees from March 15 to July 1.

Gotta pay for that ballroom

We were told we were a family. That this culture was different. It’s only a matter of time before you are deemed not efficient enough and they show you the door.

I had coworkers that have recently been on baby bonding leave, others that are in their early 60s and too young to take Social Security. Not efficient.

I’m so sick of it. Anyone with a VP title and making these decisions just cares about the stock price and their payout and making sure that they have enough. Last year alone our CEO sold over $40 million in stock, that’s on top of his salary. Oh and how many millions did the Ballroom donation cost T-Mobile? I guess they’re making up the difference now.

The only thing I think we can do is join together and unionize through CWA just like ATT and Verizon have done. We need better protections, more transparency, and a seat at the table when we can get it. I don’t know how we do this but I know I’m tired of being thankful that it wasn’t me that was let go this time around.

Ageism Disguised as Layoffs- worst examples?

The average age of employees grades 14-17 seems to have dropped by over 10 years since 2022 at least in Sekou’s org. Clearly driven by layoffs. We’ve seen what looks like blatant examples of age discrimination. Pushing an over 50 to a unique role, replacing with a 30 something, a year later eliminating the unique role. Thats pretty common. What’s the worst example you’ve seen of age discrimination?

Forth Quarter Results for 2025 - Layoff season is coming

In the lastest company communication, Ron says we 'mark a strong finish to another successful year for State Street'.

He also mentioned that he looking forward into workforce reductions. What a stand up guy!

If you heard your manager this month saying they had to attend 'transformation' meetings, this is what it was: Next Gen transformation. You and are team may get impacted.

Alameda Health System Layoffs Cause Hospital Disarray

Major layoffs at Alameda Health System have caused disarray. The system cut 247 employees, roughly four percent of its staff. These cuts are attributed to federal Medicaid funding reductions. Staff report overflowing trash and delayed lab tests due to the changes. Many doctors and nurses urge the board to halt the reductions.

Hoping no layoffs coming!!!

Layoffs are not going to come after so many people voluntarily leaving. It is good as it won’t affect people in bad way. It is better to go find a job that pays a bit less instead of getting a layoff.

If they offered, 5K pay cut for working from home 100% remote. I would totally take it. Why burn gas or waste time. It will save me time and save company money. I hope they consider that option

5k x4000 employees = 20million in savings/year. In 10 years, 200 million savings.

Plano or Quit

The direction couldn’t be clearer anymore: the company is consolidating aggressively into Plano. Everything outside of Plano is being phased out unless you’re considered “critical” and already local. Even employees currently assigned to the Dallas HQ are being told they’ll move to Plano once the new office is ready, which says everything about the strategy.

Notices are starting to hit teams in St. Louis, LA, and other non-Plano locations, with more expected to follow. This isn’t a rumor or a one-off—it’s the plan. If you’re not in Plano, the message is blunt: relocate or prepare to exit. The days of distributed hubs and geographic flexibility are effectively over at AT&T.

Salary bumps for people stepping into new roles?

So, for people that have now stepped into new roles because of the layoffs and people that left, are we getting salary adjustments? does anyone have any insight on this? or are we just "lucky to have a job" and are supposed to shut up and take it?

Transformation steps

Goal: Decrease operating cost by reducing high salary people and not paying for hourly worker benefits as there are many store employees.

  1. Take away store employee holidays so the full timers quit. Huge savings on the benefits. Then only hire part timers to replace.

  2. Close OPO to make as many people quit as possible. So far under 100 but soon it will be up to 200. Could even go up to 300 within 3 months of OPO closer.

  3. Few months after closing OPO, Move head quarter to a cheaper area and cash 400 million for 4 buildings. Expect people who live nearby to quit. People moved to Chicago for a job and bought a home nearby to have balanced life style. Lot of people who work at a head quarter will quit if office moves far away. Near the farms where it is cheaper land or in middle by staples office on I355.

Leftover downtowners will quit if they are not by commuter train.

Total people who quit will be around 1000 at the end without any layoff or severance package. This guys know what they are doing.

q4'25 severance expenses for 2026 layoffs

Out of curiosity I did some AI based research to see how and when a company must account for severence expenses under GAAP, taking into consideration 60 day notice periods, and basically they can incur the expense when they notify you so long as their is little chance of a reversal. additionally. if they have already made their lists for the first part of 2026 (q1/2) and are certain those positions are going away they can take the expense earlier such as in the $612MM hit we took this past quarter. So while severance expenses are expected to be lower by $700MM in 2026, part of the reason they can say that is that layoffs happening in the next few months are already paid for.

This is the future

Somebody asked in another thread if we're going to do quarterly layoffs until only Atty is left, and frankly and sadly, I think that's much closer to the truth than the poster intended. The way things have been developing, it seems that we've reached the stage where layoffs, instead of only being used when absolutely necessary, have become something used regularly just to pad the numbers. That's our future.
