I am in the department that houses everything security related and was told by a person who actually reports this stuff...
While badge swipes ARE still being tracked - tracked as in making sure you are there 5 days/week, you trolling mongorals - but VPN usage is ALSO being monitored.

This is to prevent coffee badging, basically. When you go to an office, you have to connect to the building's/whatever area you are in WiFi before you can connect to VPN. Therefore your computer is assigned an internal Dell IP address. As soon as you connect to that, it starts getting logged. As soon as you disconnect and go home, that gets logged.

The minimum time they want is 1 hour of connectivity as of now.

Source - work with the guy who literally sends these reports up the chain.

Let's also close all non-customer-facing office locations. Real estate will always be more expensive than a VPN. If we weren't spending hundreds of millions on vanity office spaces that need maintenance, infrastructure, furniture, lighting, security, etc.

If this company actually cared about efficiency it would go full virtual. Nobody cares about seeing "Wells Fargo" on a block of concrete when there's no ATM there.

There are only so many things an end user can do to self-fix the problem.
Even if our servers or VPN or whatever is the problem for putting us thro endless loops of identifying Crosswalks, Bicyles, Buses and Traffic Lights...My exhorbitantly paid brotheren still employed - exactly how hard is it for you to just Error Us out after say 4 "Unsatosfactory" Identifications of these images? Why are we put thro indefinite endless loops? Is that a way to force us out of Facebook and use other products?

Is it just me or are a few people in here not using a VPN and posting?? Some of the posts get taken down even when they’re benign, sounds like they’re traceable! Use your head.

Thinking about going to the coffee shop and bringing the company laptop to work there for a change of scenery- is there security risks or am I ok if I use the VPN? Is public WiFi not allowed?

Does anyone else feel like workplace monitring has gone way too far?

Badge swipes logged... VPN activity closely watched. Teams status checked (and tracked). Calendars scanned. Emails parsed... Productivity fu--ing evaluated.... AI note-takers showing up in meetings, nobody asked for them....

Then executives act surprised when morale is awful and people do not trust management. At this point, I assume every company laptop is basically a tracking device that also happens to run work apps.

Anyone else is experiencing longer VPN connection times these days? The tool we used to have took no more than 30 seconds to connect to the corporate network but now with this GP thing it routinely takes 3-5 minutes.

Any thoughts on this? Can the anonymity be trusted or should I wear three layers of VPN to fill it out?

Got laid off at 3am and automatically signed out of slack and no longer have vpn access. 3 hours later laptop is still accessible and can still access mysites.oracle.com.

Hi - my VPN used to stay connected for about 20 hours. Now, if I go eat lunch for an hour and come back my emails haven’t updated and say no internet on Teams. This will happen after work as well. So basically it will stop connection if I’m away for more than an hour. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi! I am a remote worker and I was able to log into windows, however I went to connect to our VPN and my connection has been deleted. Am I possibly being laid off, has anyone had this happen

Well kinda ironic I signed my severance package and since then I am having log in issues and can't get past the VPN. Im in a no fault state and with everything going on. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Maybe I'm paranoid but better safe than sorry... I pick a random country. Could be Sweden, maybe Germany, or maybe Albania. I'm in Canada but idk, I like to be a tad harder to trace just in case :)

Which one of you brought down the VPN!?

My VPN just went down and can’t connect. Is it just glitch or they just brought down my access. I am scared now!!!

VPN went out awhile back — word is Charlotte teammates working from home and the “permanent” telecommuters decided to come into the office with their kids in tow (because who needs childcare when you’ve got badge access, right?).

Naturally, it turned into a full-blown security circus

I know there's a policy where you are not allowed to work outside of the US. Has anyone tried to do this with like a VPN router + travel router?

Will sell more EVs, make Ford profitable and reverse our record number of recalls.

are they tracking vpn 8hrs in office? Do they have that much ability to track? It was mentioned they will caught the coffee badging people on weekly basis.

HSK = Hardware Security Key for those that don't know. It's a little USB type device with a fingerprint reader on the top that plugs into the USB-C port. It's quite small and VERY easily losable. Even though "technically" you aren't supposed to leave it in the computer, 99.999% of people do.

The entire "frictionless access" is d-mb. Dell spent all sorts of money on these little HSK keys to be more "secure" but, 99.99% of people just leave them in their computer anyways. They aren't "easier" or more convenient since you have to input your PIN first, THEN put your finger on it. Every place I need to login to that isn't requiring an ADM account, which requires an RSA code, I choose to use just my PIN and sc--w the HSK.

It's faster (JUST the PIN,) one step less and to even use the HSK you literally have to click the option to use it. D-mbest sht I've ever seen so far. If it were fingerprint only and you didnt have to "choose to use the key" then ok, fine.

What a massive waste of money Dell spent on this lol. I'd bet money that everybody's HSK PIN is the same exact PIN they use already. If I had to bet more money, I'd bet that most people's PINs are just their phone number w/o the area code lmfao.

I'm not sure but, unless Dell plans on forcing everyone to use this HSK for logins - with no other options such as a PIN, password, RSA - then wtf was the point in this?
